I've already asked this question a few weeks ago, but will The Vines release a second single???
I hope so! ohmy.gif
Is there anyone who knows something about this?
Platinum
no word yet, and im sure there wont be until we get other stuff like a tracklist, album artwork, etc.. in fact id say it'll be released AFTER the album itself comes out.

I'm sure the god folks at Sony and Vines HQ have a plan all worked out.... or at least they had better!

Looking forward to seeing this new website and forum we've been hearing about.

What I'm hoping is that the gig at the Chapel will mark the start of a surging marketing campaign. So surging in fact that if you aren't aware that The Vines have a new album coming out it would be the equivalent to not knowing that the world has a little device known as the Internet.

I'm just wondering how the whole website/forum update is going as well. Can't wait to see the new photos and website layout.

well, i just have a purpose about the opening flash of this web. it is very cool and awesome , but will it be renewed as soon as 5th album come out~ cause it still show "melodia out "~ i think it's the time to renew the information , so everyone like the vines can get the message clearly : the new album is coming in these few days smile.gif that's just my opinion~
tyler
Another thought I had just had.... more of a wish really than anything:

future primitive was recorded in feb 2010. It has been sat on the back burner waiting for release since then. In between times The Vines have signed to Sony (actually their deal doesn't seem as straight forward as many as it seems as though The Vines are licensing their music to Sony through their own limited company - good for the vines as it means they keep control of their music - I digress...). That's 16 months of song writing / recording time for Craig. Perhaps Future Primitive will be used as a short EP to lead into an album that will follow pretty soon after. Maybe this is why we haven't seen the track listing yet.

Unlikely, but a nice thought for a Sunday afternoon...

The website will be changing very very very soon! Also a little birdie tells me that perhaps you will be seeing the artwork before too long also wink.gif

I think one negative aspect of all this good news is that the 'Future Primitive' single isn't being given away as a free download thru their website. I don't know anyone who would wanna listen to hours of Triple J's recent bias towards hipster tunes to finally hear a favourite bands track be played again! It's good promotion and 'Get Free' was a free download back in the day if i remember correctly!!

I'm sure other fans are thinkin' 'gimme love gimme love gimme love, i really need it' too.

Does anyone even know what the song is called?

I mean no offence is intended by this but The Vines are a pretty small time act now days yes they used to be big but that hype has long since died (it's been nearly 10 years since they hit the music scene in a big way) and they can't really afford to just have an unnamed song blended into a whole heap of other crappy Tripple J bands and expect people to show interest.

On top of that we got the tweet shortly before it aired giving very little time to spread the word (which i'm assuming is the aim of the marketing for this band as it obviously isn't any other type of promotion). We don't even know a track listing yet!

I just want this band to get back and climb on top but really it doesn't seem like it and that makes me sad sad.gif

The single is titled "future primitive". It is the title track from the album being released as a single.

Sorry a bit of the delay on the recording. The stupid app I used on the iPhone is making it extremely difficult to get the file into a proper format on the PC. It works 100% when using the app however, wondering how I can record the audio off the iPhone

For crying out loud. What ever happened to supporting a band you like? It must be tough being in the Vines, they'd cop less criticism in politics.

Focus on the positives. Get out was and is a fucking awesome song. Cannot wait to hear it.

This is extremely off topic but I just wanted to say I love your signature! biggrin.gif The Music are such an awesome band (I'm so sad they split up and that I never got the chance to see them live sad.gif). Their debut album is flawless and Getaway is one of my favourites from it. It's brilliant, as is the video for it, which is so fitting to it's energy and power.

Sorry, I just had to say that. laugh.gif
CodyT3212
So glad someone recognized it! They quickly became one of my favorite bands when I first started listening to them and I was absolutely traumatized when they announced their split. Getaway is epic, and I don't use that word lightly. You should check out their latest release called Singles & Eps: 2001 - 2005...they were one of the best b side bands I've ever known of, with many of the songs on that compilation leaving you dumbfounded as to how they didn't make the cut.

Also, still no recording of Future Primitive? sad.gif

Haha awesome. biggrin.gif Thanks for the recommendation, I'll make sure I check it out. And yeah I can't imagine a band like them having any bad b-sides. By the way, what did you think of Ghost Hands? I quite liked it and it just made me sad to think of what a future album may have held. sad.gif

It's an epic song. The sound of it is really bittersweet and its a perfect swan song for them. Its not a high intensity rocker or anything like Come What May but it gets the job done. I do wish though that they had made an actual video for it rather than a shitty stock footage one.

I agree, but I guess it's better than nothing and I guess it's nice they left us with something at all, rather than just announcing the split and disappearing into nowhere. In a sense, Ghost Hands was a wonderful "goodbye present".

haha I'm trying my best sorry, I would have recorded it from my computer which would have worked perfectly, but I only found out the news 5 minutes before the song actually aired hence quickly recording on my iPhone.

There is someone who might be able to help me getting the files together, I should hear back from him tomorrow. Sorry for the delay, I want you guys to hear it asap!

I haven't heard the song yet so I can't judge it, but if I didn't like it I wouldn't be afraid to say so. If the entire album was garbage I wouldn't be afraid to say so. There's nothing wrong with disliking music made by a band you love. It seems certain people feel like they have this devotion to their favorite bands where they can't shoot down anything they do, which in my opinion is the worst kind of fan to be. I do love this band, but I'm not afraid to admit they have flaws. "Evil Town" isn't exactly great, but the rest of Winning Days is pretty damn good. If all you do is focus on the positives, that means you're convincing yourself that "Evil Town" is a masterpiece (apologies to those who do think the song is a masterpiece, this is just my opinion.) Just seems silly to me.

For crying out loud. (All that was done was an opinion was expressed.) What ever happened to supporting a band you like? (what ever happened to supporting a band you like for the RIGHT REASONS) It must be tough being in the Vines, they'd cop less criticism in politics. (the same goes for every artist out there.)

Focus on the positives. (what if you personally haven't heard any positives yet?) Get out was and is a fucking awesome song. (does that make it OK for the band to repeat themselves?) Cannot wait to hear it. (me either)

I apologize if it came off as harsh, but I just felt the need to express my opinions on this post. Don't get me wrong, I want to love every song The Vines ever come out with... but that's such an unrealistic desire. If they come out with an album that absolutely floors me, I will praise it and all of it's glory to all my fellow music lovers, but if I find myself in a situation where I have to FOCUS ON THE POSITIVES.....well, something just isn't right.

I absolutely agree with you. You have to accept some negative criticism with almost every piece of artwork, whether it be literary, visual or musical, especially with the Vines' music. Since everyone will have a different perspective on it and feelings towards it. Believe me, I'm an artist in training, criticism is normal in the art world. Everyone has this different ideal of perfection or decides what is art or not art.

I love The Vines, but there are particular songs that I like or don't like, but that won't make me any less of a fan. If I don't really like the next album, I will still be fan no matter what.
Jared
Just heard future primitive on jjj...i loved it so much! I do like gimme love but i've gotta say this sounds about 10 times better to me. I now understand why they are saying it sounds "spacey". This song sounds like the vines rockin out on another planet! All these little electronic sounds in various parts of it. I can see why some fans might not like it when they hear it..just cos quite an unsual sound to add to a rock song, but for me it really works! I have to say i dont hear the comparisons to "Get out" at all though..All i can say is its made me about 100 times more pumped for the album now!
tyler
So I just heard it too. I like it - it's a new twist on The Vines sound and that is exactly what they should be trying to do. Keep their songs sounding like the Vines, but adding a new or unexplored twist to it.

It really reminded me of the early 301 studios mix of Get Free where there were loads of samples and things added into the mix.

I won't say it strikes into the core of why I love the vines - it's always been Craig's harmonies and sense of dynamics that do it for me - but I'm certainly very intrigued to hear what the rest of the album sounds like.

For those of you who want to hear it -it's on a listen again on triplej from tuesday - you gotta work for it though!

Also - loving Brad's filthy little bass in the middle.
borgy
I think someone should post a radio rip in this thread now.

Fans have worked for it by buyin' the records (even singles in most cases) and going to the concerts over the years.

You'd think at the very least the new single would be streamed as background music on thevines.com as a tie in promotion for Future Primitive. Seriously who listens to the radio to discover new music?

Whatever happened to the wise mantra 'Don't Listen to the Radio'....

I don't think posting a radio rip would be in The Vines commercial interests now, would it? whilst I am sure you might be inclined to pay money for the single or the album, there are others out there who will download it without paying a penny - and as much as I am sure it is inevitable I won't be the person to encourage or enable that.

And if you want to hear it - I've given you enough of a clue already. If you've got half a brain you'll find it in less than 5 minutes. I put the work in because I desperately love this band. It's part of the fun. Work for it instead of expecting to be spoon fed.

oh and borgy - I listen to the radio to discover new music. Commercial radio and radio 1 in this country (the UK) generally suck. I don't think I've ever tuned into triple j at random and not come across something new I liked.

The song is fantastic. It's great to hear a new twist on the vines. Its a tasteful mix with lots of things to keep it interesting. (dirty ass bass guitar.. Vocal fx, wooden block?) awesome.

Great work! And the vines logo seems so fitting after hearing future primitive.

I may be speculating. But I think with this production.. Were going to have one hell of an album.

Well usually the people who download something without paying a cent don't like what they hear - fair enough. I think it's sad when the joy of sharing new music amongst fellow fans has turned into protecting capitalist interests of record labels. The Vines have a die hard, dedicated fan base that's always gonna be at the record store on release day. I doubt this would bankrupt them.

There's no need to be uptight man. Maybe people have looked around so how can you assume otherwise? This is the internet after all. It's not like it's advertised that the Vines new song is included in the stream of a Triple J show.

If i was fortunate enough to have recorded it, i wouldn't be so pretentious and just share it with fellow fans. It has nothing to do with working for it, most people just can't sit at home or in the car all day long tuned to Triple J with their fingers crossed the new Vines song will play. You probably weren't working for it either, just happened to hear it by chance 'cause you were tuned in like you regularly do.
