wooot! for radiohead (and the others, yay rolleyes.gif). I think hail to the thief was their best cd of all!
comradestripe
Manic Street Preachers.
The Smashing Pumpkins.
Love.
Pixies.
The White Stripes/The Magnetic Fields.

Something like that.
Thomhatesmusic
comradestripe, where you the one saying You will know us by the trail of death is a good band? Because whoever wrote that post it was quite convincing and since then im planning to buy something by them.
comradestripe
Yeah; get Madonna. It's absolutely amazing. After that, get Source Tags And Codes. Yum.

If you want a taster, download Mistakes And Regrets, Totally Natural, A Perfect Teenhood (all from Madonna) and It Was There That I Saw You (from ST&C). There's another, more overtly melodic side to them than those songs, but I think they're definitely good starting points.

They have a new album due out later this month, I think...I've heard varying opinions, but the new songs sounded excellent live, and the person whose opinion I trust most on these matters said it was a great album, so I have high hopes.

A few reviews:

http://pitchforkmedia.com/cgi-bin/search2/...s=trail+of+dead
http://www.nme.com/reviews/10267.htm
http://www.drownedinsound.com/bands.php?id=262

That Drowned In Sound link also links to a few songs...I've not heard Worlds Apart, but Relative Ways (from ST&C) is pretty instantly-likeable; Mark David Chapman is top, but not necessarily the best place to start out.

The fansite, http://www.trailofdead.org is ace too.

edit: I was just looking at their tour dates, and they're playing Berlin on a German tour later this year:

3rd March: Markthalle, Hamburg
4th March: Postbahnhof, Berlin
5th March: Live Music Hall, Koln
6th March: Muffathalle, Munich
8th March: Schlachthof, Wiesbaden.

I would really recommend seeing them live; they're one of the best bands I've ever seen.
Chix
Oh, I've been very much wanting to check out Trail of the Dead. My father likes them I think, but I've never actually heard them. I'll be sure to listen to some stuff of theirs.
comradestripe
Do it!

I might even make you a CD, Chix, if you're good. Although that would be a bit silly, thinking about it, if your dad has their stuff.

I downloaded and listened to all of the songs you recommended, Comradestripe, and I must say I am liking them quite a bit. I especially like 'A Perfect Teenagehood', 'It Was There That I Saw You', and 'Relative Ways'.

I look forward to borrowing the album from my dad. smile.gif

There's a reason for that!

I'm glad you're liking ...Trail Of Dead, Chix. You've still got Mistakes And Regrets and Totally Natural to discover yet, too biggrin.gif The only problem with the first album is that it's not as good as the other two. It's still pretty ace, but I can only think of Richter Scale Madness and Half Of What as standout songs, which is rather less than the other albums. Having said that, there are only eight songs on it, so maybe it's proportional. Oh, I'll stop wittering on and hope you enjoy it...just bear in mind that the other two albums are better.

Oh, I will. My dad says he's been meaning to pick up another one of their albums, anyway.

i dont like U2,i dont know why is it so- a lot of people around me say`theyre great`, but i dont understand why?
CrazyDaisy
Well, it is a simple answer: I like them bacause they play great music. And I'm not saying All that you can't leave behind is a super duper album - I prefer Pop than that so-called spirital music. But albums like Boy, War, The Unforgettable fire, Rattle and hum, Joshua tree, Achtung baby and Zooropa are legendary. Also I might be a bit romantic about them - they were my firt big rock band I started to listen to. But their music is really good.

Yes.

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead (1998)
Madonna (2000)
Source Tags And Codes (2002)
Worlds Apart (2005) <- number 4
Chix
Hmm. I just got up and found my dad's "Trail of Dead" album in his CD rack, he was wrong. We actually have their third album, "Source Tags & Codes", only for some reason my dad thought it was their first. So, nevermind, I don't have their first album. I have their third. Which is good, because I quite liked the stuff I downloaded from their third.

Next time I'm at Best Buy or something I'm definitely going to pick up "Madonna", though.
