When you register you need to provide debit/credit card details, as proof that you're..a real person or something, I dunno. They don't use this card for anything though; I think I registered with a debit card I had to get replaced actually. But when you win items you can either pay with Paypal (a sort of online account linked to a credit/debit card) or usually just send a cheque through the post.


Ebay is great, although ridiculously addictive.

Yeah, me too. I always seem to accrue enormous seller fees though, even though I rarely make much money out of what I sell. I know that the fees are proportional in some way top the initial price you set your item at, but it really never seems to add up for me somehow.

here we use post cheques or something that are like where you send money through a middle-man.

Yeah, you definitely can. I try to avoid using my credit card, so the debit option was a godsend for me.




Sometimes I genuinely think it'd be good if people who sniped did get hacked. Sniping seems to ethically go against the whole ebay principle. I mean, bidding at the last minute to secure something isn't that bad, but using software to do it for you when you're not there? Nah.


Well, that's based upon my assumption about what sniping is.


Would I be right in thinking then, that if we were both bidding on something and I'm bidding normally, but you're sniping, and I put a bid in of something ridiculous like £12943, your sniping software would automatically bid higher? Or does it have limits set by you (because that would make it no different from entering a maximum bid on ebay)?

my mum makes so much money on there. she bought a magazine once for aboout 30c and she sold it for about $60 cos it was the second one ever. people would make so much money if they sold stuff on ebay instead of having garage sales, cos thats were we get our stuff from and we get heaps for it. she got these little pokemon toys for $2 and sold them for $20...... bargain and a half..

I go through phases when I'm totally addicted to ebay. I've had very pleasant experiences, except for this one person who tried to scam me. I reported her sorry ass and got a full refund.

You set the highest bid you'd be willing to make and it bids the lowest possible. Forexaple if I wanted to by a CD that was currently at $10 I would snipe it for say $15 because thats how high I would be willing to bid and if it stays under that the sniper would bid for my at the lowest price possible. So if someone out bids my maximum, they win. It's not completely unethical.

Yeah, exactly. That's what I asked earlier too. Hmm..is that really all there is to sniping, it bids on your behalf up until a certain point? That's no different at all then from what I do on ebay without sniping tools.

It doesn't bid till the last split sencond so the highest bidder before you still thinks they are safe so they won't bid war you.

yeah you can use a debit card...well definately if it has a credit cared logo on it, but otherwise i don't know. i use my debit card on it, and it has the mastercard logo on it.
i love ebay, it is so much fun and you can get good deals on it. i have had no problems as of yet. but right now i bought something from someone in australia and i'm totally confused about paying them cause of the exchange. which is annoying cause i buy from people in britian all the time and paypal converts the pounds to american dollars so i don't get why they wouldn't convert australian money to american.

Oh, well that's cunty then and anyone who uses it should be fucking murdered.

Well, obviously I was exaggerating with regards to the murder thing, but sniping on ebay is a cunt's game.

I didn't take issue with you buying anything as you've stated, I take issue with the fact that you're cheating the system and using these sniping tools.
