Nah.
'What You Waiting For' is catchy, but I liked her so much better in No Doubt. Classic No Doubt, I mean. Like 'Tragic Kingdom' and 'Return of Saturn'. They were great albums. I'm not too pleased with her going solo.
I mean, if she is going to go solo, then she should do songs that she normally wouldn't be able to do with her band. Stuff they aren't interested in. 'What You Waiting For' is a song I could picture No Doubt doing.

Have you heard their older stuff? Stuff other than off of "Rock Steady"? That album wasn't very good. They went waaayyy too poppy. Like I said before, their old stuff I think was fantastic, though. A lot different than the new stuff.

LOL, I did not realize until I read your posts that my sig and my avatar are in some sort of weird competition.
In my own defense, let me say that I tried not to like the Gwen Stefani CD, but I can't help it. Most of the songs have that sort of beat that just makes you mindlessly shake your booty. The music is certainly not deep and meaningful, it's just mindless fun.

Yeah I'm really not too happy about that either, but the whole band agreed on it. It's not like she just said, "See ya guys, I'm done with this No Doubt shit" and left.

Money, money, money...she could have done all she wanted WITH No Doubt...it really makes no difference. They could have just altered their sound..no big deal. Either money, or she's an extremely spoiled brat. Or both. I mean, why go solo? Someone's gonna have to keep playing the music for you. Might as well be your own band. It's profit people...profit. I mean, you have a band, they play music for you, then you go off and leave em to go solo. You don't see rock bands doing that anyway.

Because she wanted to do different music that the rest of her band wasn't interested in. She wanted to work with other artists and make a dance album. Apparently this isn't something the rest of her band really wanted to take a part of so they agreed that she just go do it on her own.

Yeah but doesn't that make her just a teensy bit incosistent..I mean at first she was all rock on and girl power and stuff...bah..and then she wants to make a dance album...sounds like a bit on the avril lavigne side. I never liked her too much actually. Old stuff's great though

I like her single, but I've listened to the rest of the cd and don't like it. It isn't my taste, and I think she should have stuck with the band because she just doesn't work without it. In my opinion anyway. I still think good for her, you know...

I 've never been obsessed with no doubt. I liked some of their songs though like Don't Speak and Hella Good and... no that's it. She's plainly awful solo! Ditching no doubt is another issue. Her two songs I've listened to(the singles) just don't make me feel anything.

Heaven forbid she should like two different styles of music and want to be involved with making both.
And isn't going solo quite a good 'girl power' 'going-alone' statement anyway?*
*
(Although I suspect she has a list of songwriters and producers for this album that are as long as her arm anyway)

(Although I suspect she has a list of songwriters and producers for this album that are as long as her arm anyway) I read in a few articles that she actually wrote few of the songs on her own. "This album is the least me that I have been." That's what she said in an interview for the album. I think she had quite a lot of outside songwriters and producers working on this album.

(Although I suspect she has a list of songwriters and producers for this album that are as long as her arm anyway)Yeah, she did write a few songs on her own I believe, and all the rest she did at least contribute into the writing process. She also wanted this as a chance to work with and write songs with other artists, which is why she doesn't like to really consider it a "solo" album, since that would suggest she did everything on her own.
