Ok so a lot of Perth fan's weekends were ruined tonight when they arrived at the Rosemount to find the gig cancelled "due to illness".

Any news of who is under the weather enough to miss an entire show would be appreciated!
Untutored-Youth
I haven't got a clue,

But we can all take one guess on what condition any media will blame it on if there's any articles in the future.
MisplacedKeys
I bet it's Ryan. He always scores the most serious injuries from the most ridiculous things.
clever_napkins
^ think he's been wrestling with his reptiles? tongue.gif

Craig seemed to have a bit of a runny nose in Sydney last weekend, and looks kind of tired in fan photos from the Gov. They've played ill before, though, so I doubt they've taken the decision lightly, whatever the problem is.

Haha, could be. tongue.gif He did once wrestle a dog and he injured himself quite badly (broke a limb, I think), so it's entirely plausible he ... slipped on one of his turtles ... ph34r.gif *frantically knocks on wood*
Loaded Mind
I hope whoever is sick gets well soon!
Keaton
Lol thats so funny everyone immediately thinks of Ryan, because when we were all standing outside the door with our looks of dissapointment on our faces everyone immediately starts going:

"I bet its f*ckin' Ryan"

lol
Sexhair
Aw. sad.gif Hope everything's alright!
moonflower
According to the vines update on their facebook page it was because of Craigs airplane induced anxiety, he couldnt board the plane and they missed the flight to perth or something sad.gif
Untutored-Youth
"For everyone in Perth who had to suffer the disappointment of Saturday night’s Rosemount show being cancelled, we sincerely apologise, and also apologise for the extremely late notice regarding the cancellation. The band are genuinely gutted that the show didn’t happen and feel terrible that they have disappointed their WA fans. Unfortunately Craig was not able to fly from Adelaide to Perth due to a serious recurrence of his flight related anxiety. For those of you familiar with his condition and history, we hope you will understand that continuing the flight was not an option.

We hope to make it up to you all in the future, and if you haven’t already been informed, of course your ticket can be refunded from point of purchase."
daytripper
Does anyone know if it was one of those tiny planes? unsure.gif

Its Asperger's Syndrome, not disease. Hes not sick, he was born with his brain wired differently. Yes, Craigs current condition is most likely to do with difficulties he has because of AS with by being around people a lot and being in different places all the time. But that doesn't mean hes sick, he just has the same thing hes always had. I'm sure he will get over this with an adequate period of rest and recuperation.
Vine Freak
My friend was listening to triple J this morning and they said Craig was in hospital. Anyone know anything more about this?
Sexhair
WHAT?
mezziie
refer to the other thread about vines shows being cancelled.

You know.. after seeing this again, I just realised that this quote is a big kick in the face to myself. laugh.gif

And I doubt Craig will have been hospitalized, but who knows. huh.gif
mooshell
Do they mean a mental hospital? Or maybe his stress got so bad it made him physically ill? unsure.gif

The Vines
Posted by Music News Desk on November 12 2008

MySummerMusic.com: Hey Hamish, how’s it going?
The Vines – Hamish: Hey mate, things are good, just relaxing & doing some interviews.

MySummerMusic.com: You have recently been on tour in support of your new album, how have the shows been on the tour & how was the audience response to the new material?
The Vines – Hamish: Yeah man the shows have been awesome. We have done some really cool shows with most selling out. We play to a younger audience, so all were all ages as a lot of our fans are in school you know. The response was great, the kids loved our new songs, so it was cool all around.

MySummerMusic.com: You have recently mad a reappearance to the festival scene, with appearances at the 2007 & 2008 Splender In The Grass festival, how were these shows for the band?
The Vines – Hamish: Yeah splender was really cool & was great to play for our comeback. The set we did in 2007, that was something special, as we managed to keep it a secret from everyone & we were a real surprise to the fans & it went off. The show we did this year was great, there was a cool lineup to play alongside & we pulled a nice crowd. The stage isn’t as big as other main stages, but is comfortable & was fun to play on.

MySummerMusic.com: You will be playing the Pyramid Rock festival over the new year, are you looking forward to this one?
The Vines – Hamish: Yeah it’ll be fun, to be honest the only 2 things I know about Phillip Island are the moto gp race & penguins so it will be an interesting time. The festival will be great as its on new years, so to be playing a festival is cool & as its not too far from home its all good.

MySummerMusic.com: Well I suppose at the festivals, you won’t get as long a set as you have had on tour, with the limited time of your set at the festival, will you be doing anything special for the fans?
The Vines – Hamish: Yeah we’ll probably just play the hits I guess. I mean that really is what our fans will want so we’ll give them exactly that. With the 4 records we have, we’ve put out a few singles & other things so pretty much just play the songs the people want & keep the festival rolling, and it’s new years eve, so we’ll be doing what we can to keep the party going.

MySummerMusic.com: With Pyramid Rock, have you look at the lineup & is there anyone you are looking to see?
The Vines – Hamish: I’m not too familiar with the lineup, can you name a couple bands playing?
MySummerMusic.com: Yeah, its bands including The Black Keys, The Living End, Birds Of Tokyo, Gyroscope etc.
The Vines – Hamish: Ok, yeh its coming back to me, it’s a prettty sweet lineup & we’ve got a bunch of bands we know playing. I’m looking forward to seeing Karnivool who I think are playing, I’m a metalhead at heart so I’m keen for that. Other bands I’m looking forward to are the living end as I’m good friends with these guys, so it will be a good day.

MySummerMusic.com: Now hamish, having played many festivals, do you have any advice to give to fans of yours who may be coming to their first festival?
The Vines – Hamish: Yeah, firstly do not wear thongs as you will pay immensely. Not only do your feet get wet & dirty, but they get stomped on & can get cut by glass bottles or cans. Secondly, don’t even think about lugging around a backpack, take what you need in pockets, its just easier & smarter. Besides that, I guess thehy will just learn as the day takes them, it’s how I learnt.

MySummerMusic.com: Now also, having played a number of national & international festivals, do you have any memorable moments from a festival?
The Vines – Hamish: Yeah, I’ve got a few, the one which sticks out now is when we did our first overseas festival. We did the Glastenbury festival in the UK & that was cool, there was a crowd of like 10000 people I think. In the first few songs, I kept my head down & did my thing on drums, but as the set went on I looked up & saw the crowd & behind it the countryside & felt really relaxed being in such a diverse environment, so that was cool.

MySummerMusic.com: Just curious, can you tell me any favourite music festivals of yours you have played at?
The Vines – Hamish: Yeah, it’d have to be the Big Day Out. It’s the premier festival on the Australian calender & the way it is set out is really cool. The promoters set up the festival to run for like 3 weeks so its really easy going & they set up the backstage to be on even ground, so the headliners & the openers can mix & make friends. It’s really just a friendly festival & is really fun to play, so I’d say that one for sure.

MySummerMusic.com: Now finally on festivals, with playing or attending festivals, do you have any favourite artist performances?
The Vines – Hamish: Yeah, it’ll probably show my age but I’d say Soundgarden, the ramones & probably the smashing pumpkins. These 3 were all great, I saw them at various festivals in the early to mid 90’s & they all did great shows. The way they played really captivated me & I always remember those shows.

MySummerMusic.com: Just quickly, do you guys have much coming up besides the festival dates?
The Vines – Hamish: Yeah we’ve written a few new songs, so hopefully sometime in the near future we can record. For now, we are doing the dates scheduled to play the new record & then we may do some more touring nationally or overseas, either way there’s a lot happening for us.

MySummerMusic.com: Well Hamish, I’d like to thankyou for your time & hope you have a nice day.
The Vines – Hamish: Yeah, thanks mate, maybe I’ll see you at one of the festivals we’re doing, have a nice day, Bye.

a question:
Have other members of the vines musical alternate projects to the band? like the Strokes members : nickel eye, Albert Hammopnd Jr. little joy...
I am worried because Craig cannot work and they had prepared very much this album.
is sad to think that all his work was uselessly, please, do not bealiave that i do not love craig, pray.gif im pray for him all the days, but the other boys worked very much....
Answer me please, i`m wanted to know more of the band that opened my mind, before them I was listening to Shakira and to Enrique Iglesias, blush.gif jeje. Because of it I love THE VINES, very much.
I hope that they understand my message, I used a translator almost all the time, je, it is more difficultly to write that to read. Thank you very much,
Im from Mexico,
i am a Vine!!!!

lol

no, i don't believe any of the dudes have side projects, unless of course they're bands that they're working on that haven't made it anywhere yet. and i don't believe the other boys will consider everything useless, i mean they released their fourth album and all, the next will be the fifth and they will play shows again.
MisplacedKeys
Brad is also in D'arcy.
Ryan has (had?) a solo project in plan, I'm pretty sure he tried recording at one point.
Hamish is also in Bigphallica but I think they haven't played a gig since 2006. He also sometimes plays for other bands: he did Superjam at the Jack Awards, he also played with the City Lights one or more times, iirc. Hamish also has his brand of beer (Skinny Blonde ...or something along those lines), if that counts as a side project.
Brad and Hamish also occassionally DJ under the name the Go To Guys.
Bartholomew
I've been hearing about Ryan doing something solo for a while now and I'm starting to wonder if he'll ever actually do anything.

I asked him if he was working on a solo album last march when I met him (not to brag) and he said he hadn't had any time to work on anything other than Melodia. I'm hoping now will be the time for him to get to work on that. I'm sure Ivy Laugue would sign him, Seeing as how Ivy League is kinda The Vines' bitch. tongue.gif
