That's what I thought when I first read that.. I was like hmm.. there's a reason why Lennon had to do that big apology back then. And yes, I do hope he means the Beatles are bigger than Jesus in that there are more people who seem interested in The Beatles than Jesus.. that I can understand
If he meant to "spread the message" that they are more important.. he should be careful. People take offence very quickly and easily. People (especially where religion is concerned) are super-sensitive, that I have learnt.

And those pictures are wonderful, that one where they are all smiling is so great! I can't help but smile whenever I see it... their smiles are contageous!

Oh and (on page 80) there's this gig section and it says that they are going to do a special triple J presents gig at the Manning Bar (Sydney), and to listen to triple J for your chance to win tickets!.. and they call them a "motley trio" poor Brad.. probably fogotten :/ give it a little longer and they'll realize

I'm definitely not "slagging" the song, there is humour in the fact that a great 60's pop band has become "bigger than Jesus", which is true. I'm not so much talking about that line in the song or the fact he thinks that way, I understand that to him they are bigger than religion. But to say that maybe he and others who feel that way can "spread this message". Well.. I'm just saying yes, people could take offence, that's the only point I'm making here

I don't think that line could cause much controversy, seeing that The Vines have already told us that "God's love ain't forever" and to "drown the baptists".

Oh I love that article! And I like the sounds of a future gig at the Manning Bar! I love that venue... but I bet it's after July 13th... my last day in civilisation (I'm off to central NSW for a uni placement) so I doubt I'd be able to go *sigh*. ^ Yeah it is an 18+ venue... there aren't many under 18s venues in Sydney, which sucks because there are a lot of Vines fans under 18 . I hope you get to see them at a festival or something!

great interview - thanks so much for taking the time to type up and share pics. i love it when bands do track-by-track interviews, because i'm always interested in the meanings behind the songs - even if craig always manages to bumfuzzle more than enlighten the reader.

Same here. Maybe it's just different if you play it live, but the recorded version is all kinds of blah. The VV Track-by-Track was kind of similar, Ryan said Gross Out was one of his favourites, too, and despite it being a really good song I never thought it was one of the best off of VV.


Haven't you seen the videos from their US gigs? or did you mean recorded versions?

yeah, i watched some of the live youtube vids but...i just decided i wanted to wait and hear the studio version of the songs first. i have high hopes that 'he's a rocker' is the throwaway track, and these others will really shine with rob schnapf back at the helm. i purposefully didn't listen to 'asIII' cos i especially can't wait to hear it or 'true as the night.'

it is common knowledge if you're a music fan, im sure she knows that. i think her point was, saying something like "burning down the manger" whatever he says, that, religious fans could take offense. even still to this day people take offence to what lennon said which is why its still talked about to this day. not EVERYONE is extremely liberal or agnostic. im agnostic, and i don't give a fuck to be honest, but yeah, i forgot what i was going to say. whatever if some religious group decides to burn vines cd's theyll have to buy them first right, and then there would be press about it, so its like win win know what im saying
