I've been listening to the album for a few days now, and long after everyone else has posted their thoughts, I'm finally ready to talk about it... Pure opinion, mind you.
"Get Out"
Love it. Awesome opener.
"Manger"
I dig it. Sounds a bit Highly Evolved, to me
"A.S. III"
It's a great track, but takes it's name from Autumn Shade and Autumn Shade II, and I don't like it as much.
"He's A Rocker"
I'm not crazy about it. Then again, I've never been crazy about The Vines' first singles. But I know they're never good representations of the album.
"Orange Amber"
Again, I'm not crazy about it. But I like the second half better.
"Jamola"
Blue Jam. I thought the "He's A Rocker" b-sides were exclusive? I still really like it.
"True As The Night"
Thank God it's here. I was starting to get a little bummed out. I love it! My favorite track on the album. Right up there with "Spaceship" and "Amnesia," in my mind.
"Braindead"
Awesome. Hearing this track on youtube is what made me most excited about this album. The studio version is every it as gret as I had hoped
"Kara Jayne"
Ugh. And I've never said that about a Vines track. I really don't like it. I've never had a Vines song I just knew I would be skipping forever, but this is it. Vocally and musically, I just find it irritating.
"MerryGoRound"
One of my faves. Reminds me of "TV Pro," which is one of my all-time faves.
"Hey"
It's different. I'm not exactly sure how, but it is. I like it, though.
"A Girl I Knew"
Love it. I know I'll be listening to this one a lot.
"Scream"
Probably my favorite next to "True As The Night." I can't wait to hear it in CD quality.
"She Is Gone"
I absolutely love it. I only wish it was longer. If only they'd chosen this for their six-minute epic, right?
All in all, I'd have to say that "Melodia" is my least favorite Vines album. But that's only because, for the first time, there's a song I don't like to hear. It is a bit of a bummer, because several of my favorite artists have recently put out albums I liked less than their previous. Don't get me wrong, though. I'll be listening to "Melodia" forever. It's a great album.

Took the words right out of my mouth. There is no song like "Kara Jayne" where I hear it come up on my music player and I go running and screaming (dramatic action sequence style, of course) "NOOO!!!" across the room to change it.
I was insulted in one of the million of articles that's come out lately when they compared it to "Mary Jane." BLASPHEMY.
There are some songs that I just can't get into very much ("Country Yard," "Candy Daze"), but when they come on and I'm busy doing something, I don't notice it and catch myself singing along. But "Kara Jayne" is just instant "oh god the melody is wrong the singing is wrong the rhythm is wrong stop saying "baby girl" oh god." It's so pointless. It's between "Braindead" and "Merrygoround," COME ON NOW.
I think they should have replaced that song with "Make Believe" on the album, I love that song.

Sanity sucks - at least the Wollongong store. They cater more for top 30 pop artists...

Distribution on Melodia does seem a little dodgy though. I think Ivy League are doing it on their own (i.e. no help from a major label) so that might explain it.

Just FYI (this has probably been posted elsewhere), you can also buy "Make Believe" through iTunes, at least in Aus. It's not a bonus track in the sense that you have to buy the whole album through iTunes to get it.

I found a bit of interesting information:
The name "Melodia" is the name of the music store where the character Alex in Anthony Burgess' A Clockwork Orange" buys his pre-ordered record of Beethoven's No. 9.
I'm not sure if I should include the source as it includes a download link for Melodia, but I thought this was interesting.
EDIT: Is that in the booklet because I noticed someone edited Wikipedia page as well? I don't have the CD yet, see.

I personally thought Vision Valley was a really weak effort from The Vines. However, Melodia is probably one of the best things I've heard all year. The Vines are back as far as I'm concerned.

Yeahhh

Well, I don't think they will ever get as good as the first two.
But it's fucking brilliant.
My music tastes have changed a lot since highly evolved, yet I still love this album. Every time I listen to it, it gets better.
However, I think there are definitely some naff tracks on there - Get Out is a really bad opener, mainly due to its VV simplicity. It just made me think "oh bollocks, he still hasn't remembered how to write songs properly". But then as it progresses it gets better and better. Especially Scream.
Also, don't you think that prehaps that little riff at the end of She is Gone sounds like the start of a new song, which could be very cool haha.
Maybe album number 5 will start with that?
Not that they will have planned that far ahead...
