A Girl I Knew is just so sad crying.gif
That one and Scream are my favourites thus far.

Me too! Those two so far stand out the most. Especially Scream! wub.gif And of course Manger!! wub.gif

I only listened to the other ones once so far. A lot of them are very Beatles-like. biggrin.gif
SlashNX
editted: because I wana listen to the album a few more times before givin a big review.
Coca Cola Craig
i think that all of craig's screaming did something bad to his singing voice ohmy.gif

i can't see myself listening to melodia more than iv listened to winning days or vision valley.
SlashNX
the only thing i wana say is Craigs "scream" has well and truely gone and been left behind with Winning Days.... its a different voice.

haha, not really...
Coca Cola Craig
or his singing vocals, now i guess he ends the singing phrases with a sort of dip in voice.

AS 3 and manger are my favs!

I've only listened to Get Out and Manger. I am going to wait for the rest of the songs until I get my c.d., even though it's going to be awhile. It will be well worth it, I am sure, when I can just lie in bed with all of the lights off and listen to it on my own, without the distractions of other things on the computer. The songs were very good, though. Especially Get out! biggrin.gif

and even though its reaaaally hard to tell, i think merrygoround is my favorite, its so amazing.

True As The Night is SO BEAUTIFUL.

I cannot handle it.

Get Out (particularly the intro) is amazingly fierce as well.

I think they're sounding genuinely different this time around and perhaps a bit closer to the Winning Days roots? Either way, FUCKING_LOVE.

Oooookay then, no more joking from me.

No its fine, just maybe try and make sure they are actual jokes that make sense and are funny.

QUOTE(profanity_insanity @ Jul 6 2008, 10:06 PM) *

All the songs are up now on their myspace!!!!

She is Gone, Get Out, Kara Jayne. This album is so good. Its a lot more futuristic than the previous albums. The vines have done a greeeeeeeeat job.
kazzama
I've only heard get out but already my room is covered in semon!

Anyway...hey...you guys notice that in Kara Jane he never says the name Kara Jane through out the whole song? it's just titled Kara Jane. It was as if he already had the song written before he met KJ...but then added her name as the title after he met her.

All he says is...."Oh baby girl"....never Kara Jane. He may have written it for Harry for all we know.....or maybe no one in particular. He may have not intentionally written it for KJ.
Its just my theory of course.

I love it none the less. Very pretty. One of my favs. wub.gif

And Orange Amber i love a lot. It has a real Beatles feel to it. cool.gif
Songbird
^ yeah, as well as she is gone smile.gif what ive noticed is that jamola actually sounds alot like the song "swamp song" of oasis in the beginning...

I think my favorite song is Merrygoround. When i heard that i thought ah ok this is going to be another slowish then it just kicked off. I love it, i also love his vocals i mean for a guy that smokes as much as him his voice still sounds decent at 30 which is crazy!

The only criticism i have was those birds at the start of AS III hahaha they sound like something from the bush. But hey i guess it will grow tongue.gif
arbitrary world
OH MY HOLY FUCKING SHIT

This is quite possibly the best day I've ever had

Seriously mate

Every song fucking rocks so far. I'm up to "True as the Night" and its all too fucking good to pick a favorite right now. Gah. Everyone keeps mentioning Merrygoround and I already love Scream so...jesus shit christ.

Oh, and I can't neglect that I just got a little bag of green last night, so...yeah. This album is quite possibly the best thing on earth right now for me happy.gif happy.gif yahoo.gif

EDIT: On "A Girl I Knew," he sings about crying on the kitchen floor...listening to Winehouse much, Craig? lol sorry that's just the first thing I thought of when I heard that laugh.gif

Oh yeh, and Merrygoround is brilliant.
Ashleak
hello just listened to this

and I love this album
i think its the best thing since highly evolved
a lot more dense and psychedelic than vision valley
the songs are more original and interesting
he's a rocker is the worst song by far
lovely harmonies and melodies
beautiful its nice to see craig fufill some of his potential
as he is a great songwriter
just sometimes doesn't quite get there
she is gone is a great closer
merry go round is awesome sounds helter skelterish
most beatles sounding of all the albums
and beach boys

thankyou

My thoughts as well.

Orange Amber, Hey, and She Is Gone are my favorites so far. I was expecting more from Autumn Shade III, though, but the harmonies are really nice. The thing I like about The Vines a lot is the harmonies, gives a nice touch to their songs. A Girl I Knew - Really sad, really beautiful.

I have to admit, I wasn't all that excited for this album since I'm not a huge fan of Vision Valley. But these new songs are definitely a huge step up from last album. Now I'm pretty psyched for the release. biggrin.gif
SlashNX
I think its pretty much confirmed Get Out is the 2nd single, but if MerryGoRound isnt released as a single, it will be a travesty to all things Vines related!!!

oddly, Braindead has turned out to be one of my least favourites on the album, despite me thinking it would be my favourite.
Not keen on the chorus vocals, still it will be an absolutely killer live track!!!

Argh yes, I am with some of you guys - conflicted about whether or not to listen to it... unsure.gif Oh who am I kidding? I have to listen to it. *goes to listen*

no conflict here. handsfoldedsign42.gif i've been listening! headphones.gif tongue.gif wub.gif

you aussies get it a week before the rest of us, and even then, we've had to mail order it so god knows when the mailman's gonna make it to my corner of the world. attendre-tapotte.gif if the vines PTB wanna make it available for fans to listen early...let's take 'em up on their offer! biggrin.gif

faves so far...'kara jayne,' 'true as the night,' 'scream,' 'orange amber,' 'a girl i knew,' and 'manger.' after hearing it in its entirity, it's no surprise to find that 'he's a rocker' really is one of the weaker tracks, so of course it was chosen as...the first single. rolleyes.gif yeah, i know it's radio-friendly and all that, but the album is so so so much better than what that song represents!! i knew they wouldn't let us down.

okay, back to listening...

Wow! You actually picked the same exact ones i did as the best ones. huh.gif
I don't have any order tho as to which i like the best out of those....but yeah..those. cool.gif
littlemissjoey
Yeah, I'm really not a big fan of "He's a Rocker" either. I also like "Manger" a lot. In fact, I will say I love it. tongue.gif
icatnsplle
i'm on ASIII right now...

manger is my favorite so far, but this is a close second.

i'll give a really detailed post on how i feel about after i listen to it once or twice over again.
so far it blows vision valley away.
Ava Adore
Im listening now!
Not too sure what i think, im kind of just flicking through the songs cos I dont want to procrastinate too long- got to get to work!

Its not really growing on me...
I think i may have outgrown the Vines laugh.gif

1 thing I really dont like is some of the rhyming used eg "hey, what are you doing today"

^ headphones.gif <- Er, soundproof headphones? unsure.gif

Okay, favourites:
* "Manger" - the drums and bass are wicked - go Hamish wink.gif
* "True As The Night" is pretty and totally luscious, but I think the lyric "true as the night" is a bit corny... unsure.gif
* "Orange Amber" - dreamy, harmonies, melodies, totally Beatles wub.gif
* "Braindead" - downright dirty
* "Scream" - as above

Something like that.

No. I just think it will be more special to listen to it on my own, without any distractions. Plus, I have never been so into a band when their new CD was set to be released. I am very excited for this. biggrin.gif
the_likely_lad
I'm only listening to the songs I've already live versions of..kinda wanna save something til sat.

Get Out is unreal, but I feel as if they should have added another minute to Kara Jayne.

Craig's voice sounds a lot different on this cd.

I couldn't have said it better. Its like what the shit, such a fucking mislead with using Hes a Rocker as a first single because it doesnt even seem to give an idea of exactly whats to come on the album. The album so far exceeds HaR in my opinion. And MANGER?! UH YA!!

but ya uhhhhhhhhhh
she is gone and get out
are my favorites.
and manger.
also this is only the first day so this will change as i get more familiar with the album.
littlemissjoey
Yeah, totally agree that "He's A Rocker" was "misleading". Not at all what the rest of the album is like.
wwwasd
i'm so tempted not to listen to it [even though i know i will in 10 mintutes], i kind of want my hard copy! rolleyes.gif
marilyn_monroe
I can't say which are my faves yet! All I can say is I think it's really great....definitely no disappointment here! I've only heard it a couple times and I must say it's an amazing album biggrin.gif
Spaceship in the Yard
Just listened to the album once...

No words. Pure wub.gif

Vine ♠ Child
In "A Girl I Knew".....
Is it my imagination or in the beginning of the song.. does Craig sing..."Allie was a girl i knew....

whistle.gif
Spaceship in the Yard
^No, I believe that was it. mellow.gif Allie obviously tore his heart in two...and they also had "a marriage" once upon a time. Explanations, Allie? tongue.gif
bobbywalsh2008
true as the night is so sick omggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg wtf i about shit, and i actually got shivers when craig sang i stand alone inside, like, im a dude and that got to me lol unsure.gif

Awesome, just listened to a bit in a hurry last night and listening to the whole thing now. The production is really weird..... sometimes it sounds really overproduced.... and then sometimes it doesn't. It's like all the harmonies are... and everything else isn't......
It's so different to everything else they've done somehow... but you can tell it's them. At the moment AS3 is my fave.
borgy
Only started listening but Craigs voice sounds different in a good way and the whole album sounds really lush and big. Brads basslines are right in there. I guess that's a middle finger to all the Brad haters cause i have never noticed basslines on Vines music that much til now. The only critical thing i can say is the rock songs sounded more energetic live, but no complaints might just be their best. AS 3 holy shit.

Jamola = Better version of Blue Jam... that guy was right.

underwhelming

ffs craig write something different

it has its moments but still isnt fit to lick highly evolveds shit.

See this is the fuckin' problem with people, When bands release NEW material they keep comparing it to another album a band has released and never judge new material on it's own merits. This is a problem that has happened with Winning Days and Vision Valley. You've probably heard the album a few times if that, as a rule you should hear it 5 times before you are sure you like it. Secondly you are listening to a bloody LOW QUALITY stream on Myspace not a hi fidelity CD. When you hear the CD im sure it's impressive sonics will give you a kick up the ass. I love Highly Evolved but fuck Highly Evolved right now 'cause this is a new album and it is fucking awesome. Melodia ftw. I think though it sounds like the Vines it also sounds different to their other CD's i can't believe you don't notice.

stop comparing...you cant compare two different albums, both are great in their own way!
