Vines singer, new love entwined

Lead singer from the Vines, Craig Nicholls, has fallen madly in love with fellow musician, Kara Jayne "K.J" Dickson.

Dickson, who met Nicholls at a party in Newtown is a bass player from band The Follow. It is one of the more intriguing match ups in Australian Rock n Roll.

The couple appeared to be inseperable at last weeks MTV Australia awards last week- holding hands and smooching ahead of the Vines' live performance.

"hes lovely, he's really sweet," confided 23 year old Dickson, who prefers to be known as KJ

"we met at a new years eve party in Newtown," she said

Nicholls, 30, has had a troubled past as the frontman for the Vines.

He had an onstage meltdown in Sydney four years ago and was subsequently diagnosed with Aspergers syndrome, a mild form of autism.

But Nicholls looked to be on top of the world last week, with K.J by his side, ahead of the much hyped unveiling of the Vines' new single.

The bands new music still prompts interest from fans all over the world, although the hype is on a much smaller scale compared with their first album, the smash hit Highly Evolved.

After the Vines were dropped from Capitol Records in US last year, their new album Brain Dead will be released in July through Ivy League records

Aww they sound so happy . It's good that the new album is starting to get a bit of publicity, it's about time since they're releasing the single next month! I can't wait to hear the new music .

Far out certain female fans can be pathetic, why can't you be happy for Craig? The reality is... you never had a chance with him.

Fuck sometimes i wonder if people are here for the music or Craig.

It was really sad that he had to have a public breakdown 4 years ago and now it's great that he's back on top of the world with someone who makes him happy.

Well it's hard to tell because it's the internet, but some are i think like back when Craig was meant to be going out with someone called Dirty Harry?? there were some crazy obsessed posts in there. Might have been on the old forum before Capitol/EMI switched all their band forums to this format. So since i saw that thread i can't really tell to well .

Oh yeah, there's some crazy shit in there. I can understand how that can be ... confusing, but so far KJ's been doing pretty alright for a Nicholls bird, Harry was torn apart.

Anyway I was just thinking one thing...they went into the studio before NY, so wouldn’t he have had those songs down before he met her? maybe I'm wrong

my feelings exactly. no fan should want craig to be lonely - everyone wants to love and be loved, and if craig and kj share that, then more power to them. craig's been through some dark times in recent years, so it's good to see him happy and excited about the new album, touring again, and yes, meeting a girl.




they went back to l.a. to record at the end of january, so i'm guessing he wrote 'kara ja(y)ne' soon after meeting her on new years and before they wrapped up recording in february. who knows, he might have already had the music written, just needed to add some lyrics - and she worked.

Or he had the song in whole, the lyrics and the music down, and he met her, and really, really liked her but she didn't really notice him, and asked himself: "What's the kind of thing chicks usually fall for? I know, I'll tell her she's beautiful and inspiring and will write a song about her in a day!" and went home, crossed out whatever name he had written and replaced it with hers, showed up at her front door on January 2 and taadaa, she was hooked. But they did meet on new year's eve so he didn't quite catch her name, which explains why the song is Kara JANE when her name is Kara JAYNE. It seems to have worked either way.

That picture made me laugh. It's been montaged by professional journalists and it looks stupid. Though I'll admit it's very difficult to cut around Craig's head without it looking a little off (coz of the unkept bird-nest hair)
Anyway, that picture of her looks very, very different to others ones I've seen (such as on her myspace ).
She looks much tidier and presentable in that one picture.

Oh and yeh.. I suppose I'm happy he's happy, like everyone. I'll keep my other thoughts to myself though..

you gotta wonder if he shared the lyrics or a setlist with her, and she saw the misspelling of her name but was too polite/amused/embarrassed to correct him. poor guy writes a song for you, you'd feel kinda bad pointing out 'erm, um, that's all very sweet but you kinda, like, um screwed up my name.'
