Like there is this forum for a Swedish band, where I used to be daily some years ago. They have a rule that you are not allowed to discuss anything that has to do with the band members personal lifes. If you do you'll get banned (or at least warned).

It is about the music after all and not about who dates who and who does this or that.

Uh, pathetic wank isn't necessarily related to their personal lives, so it really wouldn't make that much difference at all. Wank and stupidity just move, and alternate in shape and scope, but they're still there. I'm more in favour of banning idiots rather than discussion topics, but then again, that would make this forum really bloody boring, not to mention dead.

What this forum has banned is posting real information about people in the bands personal life, unless members of the band have spoken about it in interviews or it has been printed in the press. We don't allow info from personal myspace or facebook pages and the like. If the band put it out there, that's one thing. But when a 'fan' digs up info that they shouldn't have - that's another matter altogether. Most of this thread is pure fantasy and speculation - we can't ban that. I'd love to close this thread, but if this thread closes people will just start posting unsubstantiated speculation about the private lives of band members in other threads as well... I'd rather it all stay in this one thread rather than spread throughout the forum.
There will always be people on this forum who think they have the right to pry into the bands personal life, make judgements they are in no position to make, and make claims they have no right to state. So I'm happy to let those delusionals post away in this thread, keeping it away from the rest of the forum. I don't know what the other mods think, but that's how I feel anyway.
We don't like restricting topics, we like to keep this forum open to just about any topic... but yeah, this thread really is a bit much.

I doubt they would pull a stunt this stupid when they have a manager who would probably be aware of how the whole public relations thing works and would know pulling a stunt like this would do more damage to their public image then good. If they wanted to do a publicity stunt they could have easily put out their album for free on the internet. Quiet a few people already know of this band, they aren't signed to Warner Music for nothing.

Tensions got high during an album recording session and certain band members went away for awhile to cool off. Not really shocking. I'm pretty sure this has probably happened before during the long history of rock n roll.

Maybe if you actually knew what studio recording (especially when using analogue) was like and how much of a frustrating and draining experience it can be despite how easy it may sound to the uneducated person in that area, then you'd know why someone could just walk away like that. talking it through is not an option for some people different people different ways of taking it... so x 2000000000000000000 at

I may not know much about recording itself, but what I do know is that a vast (and I mean, VAST) majority of bands that have gone through the process of recording, as well as the bands that have worked with Launay in particular, did not throw a fit, pack their toys and run away, making it to national news in the progress; so I really don't see why you're trying to make it sound as if analogue recording automatically earns you some kind of a martyr status.

Each band is different yet again, The only reason they made national headlines is because the media feed and have an erection for news that is usually bad -- look no further than the Vines a few years ago for an indication or the death of Heath Ledger.

I'm not trying to make it seem like analogue recording earns you martyr status but if you are a perfectionist (like this band seem to be) then working with such a frustrating recording format (that is also expensive) can be the straw that breaks the camels back especially if there is already high tension in a band. For most bands music is their life not just a hobby. Launay isn't meant to be playing the father figure, he's the producer responsible for the sound of the record so what bands do isn't his problem.

I'm not arguing that they've had problems or whatever, but come on, there are so many ways to constructively try to solve a problem. Running away was not the only choice they had left, and it certainly wasn't the best one. Here's an idea, if you're not capable of sitting down and discussing your problems like grown-ups do, at least, I don't know, TELL people that you're going away for a while? How hard is it to say: "Hey, you know what, I've had it with you, I'm fucking taking a break and going to x" (and slam the door, if you're feeling particularly cocky at the time)?
