How were The Grates?

They were fantastic! Definitely one of the highlights of Splendour. So much fun. Craig seemed to think so as well, in his words "HOW FUCKING AWESOME WERE THE GRATES?!"

I'm actually friends with Patience's sister so I got to hang out with them at their hotel room for a bit and she gave me a V.I.P. pass so that I could go backstage, which I did for Cold War Kids and The Living End!

She was super nice. They came on to the Batman theme and she was wearing a purple Batman suit!

















Their new album sounds amazing as well, I suggest buying it if you haven't already!

You're so lucky!! I heard their set when it was aired live on the radio. It was definitely freaking awesome!! Love her costume too radical. Haven't had the chance to get their new one yet, but will get it soon

I'm not much of a Wombats fan, I only watched them so that I was able to keep my spot up the front. However I have to admit that they put on quite a good show. There was a massive turn out for them as well, the crowd went all the way back into the markets!

Thanks so much for those pics..looks like they've all managed to get a hair cut since I was last out in Liverpool with them in July! And they actually look fit and well, I was really getting worried for them at one stage, they were so tired! They really seem to be taking off in Australia now from what you said.

I was so happy when they played Amnesia. Craig said "This is off our second album, it's called Amnesia, does anyone know it?" and I screamed out "YESSSSSSSS!!!!!"

Amnesiac sounds like you had fun too, where abouts were you in the crowd? I got shoved to the front during Outtathaway!, so I was pleased about that

And also how on earth did you get so close to The Wombats without dying? I was at one of the poles which I managed to reach at the end of Vampire Weekend, and almost died from lack of oxygen
I saw a heap of other bands too including Yves Klein Blue and Wolfmother and they were so much fun!!!!

I'm supposed to be doing an assignment. I also bought a Vines tshirt, and my friend got a random drunk man to buy her a Wolfmother one for free!!! and they were $40!!! it was funny.

Hopefully they will put videos of the guys on Channel V soon. does anyone know when they are doing the Splendour special thing on Channel V? cause they were definately there I saw the TV crew

EDIT: they also played He's a Rocker which I don't think Amnesiac listed. All I remember is that they played Highly Evolved first, then He's a Rocker, and last they played Ride then F.T.W.

I arrived at Splendour on Sunday at around 12:30am so I got pretty close to the stage during Yves Klein Blue's set and I pretty much stayed there for the entire day without eating anything. That took it's toll on me when I blacked out during Sigur Ros which you might have seen if you were up the front. It was really weird as I'd never blacked out before. I just started feeling nauseous like I was about to vomit and then suddenly everything just went black and I vaguely remember falling to the ground and seeing all these blurry lights. Then all these hands were pulling me up and crowd surfing me to security, who took me to the medical tent where my dad picked me up.

Amnesia was amazing, I also screamed "YEAH!" when they started playing the riff to Braindead and all these people turned around staring at me and I was so embarrassed that I just pretended that it was someone behind me who had shouted it.

But yeah the mosh was amazing, definitely the most intense of the day. Everyone was just going crazy! Especially this girl who was obviously drunk and kept asking me to see the pictures that I had taken.

I love the photos of Craig. And it looks like he's gained a little weight.

i watched the video hits interview. it'd be nice if i could actually remember anything from it.. i'd only just woken up haha
it was only a pretty short interview, then they played the he's a rocker video

i saw them at splendour as well, they were the best band of the whole weekend
i've only fairly recently started listening to them a lot, and they've quickly become my favourite band
my friends and i got a good place a couple rows back, front centre during the grates so that we could be near the front during vines.
everything was fine until this pushy drunk girl came out of nowhere and decided she had to be at the front, so everyone was getting shoved around by her.
i'm only a small person, but i would have been ok if it wasn't for her. once the band started, pushy girl made everything 100x worse, so one of my friends and i had to move further back.

so i didn't really get any good photos, because even when we weren't getting pushed around anymore, my hand was shaking from being so angry

but they were still brilliant! definitely the best performance of the whole weekend

wow sounds like you had fun too! I hate pushy people!!!! I was at the front a couple of rows back, except someone pushed ME to the front, for a change!!! so i was very happy about that. I was kinda inbetween where brad and craig were on the stage, so i couldnt really see ryan

after i had to move further back, i just had to tell myself that it wouldn't be the last time i'd see them (i heard an australian tour in nov. or something...) and i'd just try to be at the front next time, rather than being crushed this time!

does anyone happen to know if their set was filmed? i think some bands sets were filmed by like triple j or something, but i didn't hear any mention of the vines

and there isn't anything on youtube either, except for the snippet of craig smashing the guitar
i really want to see some videos from it, haha because the whole thing is a blur and i want to remember it better!
