Vines to launch comeback at MTV Awards

Aussie garage rock band The Vines - once hailed as the hottest rock band in the world - will launch their comeback at the MTV Australia awards this month.

The band have recently completed recording their highly anticipated fourth album in Los Angeles, which is as yet untitled.

They will debut the first single from the record when they take to the stage at the awards on April 26.

"It's great to be playing again and we're really looking forward to playing our new single at the MTV Australia Awards," lead singer Craig Nicholls said.

The Sydney four-piece formed in the late 1990s and found international success with their debut album Highly Evolved, which debuted at number three in the UK album charts, number five in Australia, and number 11 in the US in 2001.

The Vines fell from grace after their second album, Winning Days, failed to match expectations in 2004, and Nicholls' erratic behaviour turned violent.

After abusing fans and assaulting a Sydney photographer, Nicholls was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome, a milder form of autism.

A two-year hiatus followed, before The Vines released their third album Vision Valley, which was well received.

The Vines performed at the South By Southwest music festival in the US three weeks ago and Nicholls told the crowd it was "great to be back", and thanked fans for sticking by them.

"Thanks everyone for supporting us through all the shit," he said.

Also due to perform at the MTV Awards are Melbourne foursome Kisschasy and electro house duo The Potbelleez.

there's something on DTI about he's a rocker being the first single off the album, and a rumour that one of the titles for the album is going to be 'braindead.' take it or leave it folks.

Then the thing about Winning Days, that's such crap it failed to meet mainstream expectations maybe but don't remember seeing Vines fans complaining about the music.

This is gonna be awesome when someone posts the video on Youtube we'll finally have a full length clip of the single!

It will be really interesting to see how the album goes this year, awards wise alot of the bigger bands brought out albums for last year, though there still is Ben Lee and Delta but they could be in it for rock album

I live in Aus so I'll get to watch it, I saw on the official website that they are re-airing it on the 27th of April on FOX8, I don't know if that's just Australia though. I dont know how to get it from TV to the computer unfortunately, otherwise i'd post it

No, MTV awards aren't selling tickets this year. You have to be in the industry. I have a friend who I might be able to get a ticket off, depending if the company she works for is doing any promotion for the awards this year. But yeah... if not I'll record the show at home and will post their performance here .

yes, unfortunately. If you have Foxtel (or Austar i dunno i got foxtel) here are the dates and times:

LIVE: 26th April, MTV, 7:30 pm (red carpet 7:30-8:30 then awards, I think)

REPLAY: 27th April, FOX8, 6:00 pm

I was reading these posts and i HATE it when videos are released over seas of my favorite bands but not where i live, so i decided that I will TRY MY BEST!!!! to record this for you all

I have foxtel and I have one of those special record tv straight to DVD machines

I will be recording the entire MTV awards (in HD dvd quality) then i will put it on my computer try to edit out all of just the vines parts then upload it here.

Just one question though does anyone know a good place to upload files as this will probably be 20-40 mb ?

There is no other real reason to watch the awards. I don't generally like awards shows, and MTV ones are normally awful. Especially with some of the other acts they have playing. The only alright awards is the ARIAs probably just cause I'm australian and its aussie music awards haha

all you had to do was look at the oz mtv website, they would have directed you to buy tickets, they werent that expensive actually. not that im going or anything. mtv can lick my non existant testes.

I swear to god, if the new website isn't up by this time tomorrow I would like to launch a petition to officially sack whoever is in charge of taking care of this stuff. This has to be some of the worst promotion I have ever seen. In just a few hours people are going to be rushing to this website to see the bands new look and hear some material... if they get faced with THAT front page, then the MTV awards is basically a waste of time.
