there are going to be bad reviews. People won't like the idea that they're still going when they thought that they had broken up. It sucks to read stuff like that, but there's nothing you can do about it except laugh at the fact that they totally missed the point.
I read something along those lines yesterday and didn't even bother posting it up here as I had a little looky-loo around to discover that her music taste was never going to be in line with the vines. If you're into hip-hop or electronica, what the hell are you doing writing a review of a genre you don't even like in the first place? makes no sense and makes the opinion invalid in my view.

I got to see both sets at SXSW. I was standing in front of Ryan's set list at the Pangaea show and I'm fairly certain Highly Evolved was the first song listed. They did play something before it but it was like an intro to check their sound I think. They were amazing! The two new songs were really cool.




Don't worry. He took his shirt off at the end of the Aussie BBQ set; he looks healthy.

If you read the remainder of this person's review, you will find that he was enamored with the artists immediately before and after The Vines set (Nicole Atkins and Robyn respectively). The former was listed under the singer/songwriter genre, the later had a dance club hit in the 90s (which is even longer than an eternity according to his calculations). Obviously, The Vines were not his cup of tea. I found Craig to be funny, charming and even a bit humble. He was energetic and played to the crowd, especially the Billboard VIPs in the reserved section. That is, of course, the whole point of SXSW.

ChartAttack News Editor Steve McLean is in the midst of his annual pilgrimage to the South By Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas. Here's his report, written while not wearing pants, from day three:

I arrived at the Australian BBQ in time to catch the last couple of songs by veteran garage-punk band The Chevelles. Their straight-up rock was washed down with free Coopers Sparkling Ale, which I love drinking in Australia and at this annual party. Lunch was free sausage on a bun. The Vines were up next and they did a mix of older ("Get Free," "Ride") and new material from their forthcoming album recorded in Hollywood. The new songs were surprisingly good, as was the performance, which also included a rock cover of Outkast's "Miss Jackson." Singer/guitarist Craig Nicholls is still snotty, but hopefully he's learned some humility as the band's career has trended downward. The crowd was really into it and he capped off the set by throwing a glass of water into the audience and then throwing down his guitar and microphone stand mid-song.
