Right the fuck on.
Every small bit about the Best Of saddens me. I saw it posted on two of my favourite music piracy websites and something inside me died a little. Suppose it's better seeing it there than on the shelves of every decent record store.

This is bull shit. Bloody record company's trying to get the last of their money. This happened to Silverchair as well, a best of album was also released by their record company without their approval.

This confuses me...Why now? Specially when they are going to release a new album...
I think the timing is suspicious or just wrong.
And it is so sleazy do do it if the band didn't say yes to that...(I am not sure what is their opinion about it though)

Totally fucking agreed!
Major labels suck.
I am so damned glad, they're indie now!
also the NME writing
"...singer, songwriter and guitarist Craig Nicholls’ volatile behaviour, later identified as Asperger’s Syndrome."that's just fucking insulting.
his behaviour was just a result of
not being diagnosed.
I mean he
still has AS, and he's not like that anymore.
Duh!

and you diagnosed him long before everyone else did you?
you could solve all the worlds problems if you could be bothered, couldn't you?
agreed that they'll be better without capitol. I hope to fuck their plan to release the best of backfires and works in the bands favour for the new album. There's something shady going on with the release dates there and i wouldn't be surprised if capitol are trying to either damage or ride on the sales of the new album.

While I don't approve of Capitol looking to squeeze out every last cent, I do think the timing may help because I've noticed people are starting to talk about the band again. So in a way this can help promote their new album and touring.

At first I didn't like the timing and the sleaziness of it all...
But I must admit I didn't look at it from that angle. If it helps, and if it makes people talk about them, then I guess it isn't that bad.
As long as it makes people pay attention to them..I was amazed when I talked to people that are in to well this kind of music that they didn't know about Vines...and I guess the last two years really damaged them in that way that they weren't around as the other bands were.

The NME has the benefit of hindsight now, so they don't have an excuse to write such offensive nonsense anymore.
but you'd agree that his behaviour was volatile?
I think you could look at that sentence from another angle. You could say that there are plenty of people out there who are naive enough to think that craig is mental, crazy or whatever they want to call it, and that all NME are doing is highlighting to those people that it is in fact aspergers. In a way, I wish those types of people would pick up on that sentence and not write the vines off on the basis that they think craig is mental.

Grabbing at his clothes and making hand gestures, Nichols was ever the enigmatic front man and chatty, too.
In between songs the singer told the crowd how brilliant it felt to be performing live again, saying, "It's great to be back".
And
"Jamola"?!
What is it? A name?
I want to here it here and now!!
"True is the night" sounds rather interesting...it seems to me that it's a Vision Valley type of song (of course just assuming by the name)

that's really little...i figured it wasn't a lot but still...i can't imagine not having the complete ownership or control of music that you wrote, or any artwork for that matter...i think it would drive me crazy, but then again i just remembered, Paul McCartney had to bid against Michael Jackson of all people to get his music, and he lost

they have control of the music and the lyrics- or copyright anyway. They just don't have copyright in the recordings. on a $20 CD, the artist gets about $1.50- that doesn't mean the record company get $18.50, they have a lot of out goings on that too, advertising, packaging, printing etc... Hopefully this won't go on for much longer, i think we're in a stage where the tide is turning and record companies won't have the power to be able to cling to those percentages any more- as much as i hate radiohead, what they did with in rainbows, and what muse are saying they want to do could help the music industry to no end.
mmb0510
Mar 17 2008, 02:56 PM
yeah, i haven't done my research but i've had the feeling that record companies have got it wrong especially in the last 5 years or so...they seem like they didn't jump on board early enough with digital, were too busy suing people, and got left behind, or something of the sort. But the percentages...c'mon, small labels aside, the big corporate label business suits have 6 figure salaries at least, if i'm not mistaken (i'm not sure for what particular talent they get them though)...and now that the industry is suffocating, they seem to just be getting pissy that God forbid they can't drive a benz/prosche/whatever and pretend they're bad rockstars without the talent. Maybe that's too harsh and i'm generalizing, i understand, but you get my drift. And it seems pretty easy to milk an artist for all he's got to me...I mean consider kids who are eager and young and just want to be able to write and play...tell them you'll put them in a studio and pay for it...most will probably agree to no payment as long as you give them the studio time...kind of like blackmailing a person using their passion for music as leverage...it's probably one of the easiest psychological tricks to play on a person, especially a young one. Ok too long, sorry rant over
