Nah, if that's the case I don't think it means much. That's the Plesk logo - the control panel/software that is apparently used for administration of the site. It's been there for quite a while now, actually - ever since the site was down, I think?

I think the main problem is that they are letting all the hype generated by playing sxsw go to waste. they're not doing themselves any favours by not having an up to date website and a shyte habit of updating their myspace. Other bands are simply putting them to shame.
Bottom line: they should have had a new website up ages ago - it should have been prepared and ready to go for when they started the mini-tour. What's there at the moment is fine for a week or so... but for months- sorry, but I think that's just awful promotion.
put yourself in the shoes of a new fan, you look up the website and you're greeted with the front page that's there at the moment. You're going to forget about them after a couple of days of checking back.
To be honest, I'm getting a little pissed off with how those responsible for keeping the fans in touch are dealing with this sort of thing. Everyone else is putting them to shame. There's having patience, and then there's whats going on here- which in the modern age of information media is ridiculous.

and somehow even that wouldn't be good enough at that point. Honestly, considering they are under new management- a new website- one of the main instruments, if not the main instrument for advertising the band would have been the first thing I changed.

they're not under new mgmt - it's still w&g - the thing that's changed is that w&g, who also operate ivy league records, are their sole record label at the moment. and, yes, you would think with w&g having so much at stake now that they're 'it' in terms of vines mgmt/label/promotion they'd step it up with the band's new website, myspace and other potential promotional outlets.
for the record, lizzy is doing all she can with the myspace - for over a year now, she's asked for vid footage, photos, and even new songs to add to their profile but it's up to mgmt/label/band to fulfill those requests. she's basically gotten sporadic news and tour info and that's it. it's frustrating that something like myspace reaches music fans the world over (54,000+ friends and counting!) and they're not capitalizing on that but that's their choice. *grr*
sometimes i wish the fans could manage them for a week - maybe we'd get them somewhere!

management / label... you know what I mean. Long day. I apologise.
Fact of the matter is, they're missing out on a lot of promo opportunity. And if dedicated fans who have been here since the beginning are starting to get pissed off with it, then the impression on new fans can't be better than that.
Given that it's make or break time for them right now- which, granted, means getting it right- you'd think they'd be a little more on the ball and ready for action in terms of promo. The band are playing great gigs, and all of that is meaningless without sufficient coverage in their online media.

I know first hand how it is when you don't use net, I got my pc last summer and since then i've learned and been informed about all the bands I liked. And first thing I do if I hear something new about some band I go to their web site or myspace.
And I agree with you all the site should be up and running a long time ago. I see how some other bands make promos and it is something that can be learned from. I am really surprised that so little has been done about promotion, and especially after SXSW gigs, it was such a good opportunity.

from a financial perspective- it makes no sense not to promote a band. It might cost a fair amount to make a new website, but the costs of maintaining it are minimal. The band are going to suffer because of this complacency, and it's that which disappoints me the most. Under a new label with people we know care a lot about the band, you would have thought they would be keen to make a good first impression on both the band and the fans and put in the work on stuff like this right off the bat. I'm sure they have a lot going on with sorting out a US / Worldwide deal (they're still on heavenly here...), but that's no excuse.
If they want people to either rekindle, or find a new interest in the vines, it's this sort of stuff that really matters and directs people towards record stores and gigs. Things were really badly mismanaged with Vision Valley, and the band suffered as a result. It sure as hell better not happen again.

Apr 11 2008, 03:30 AM
^ yeah i hear what you are saying.
Even though with Vision Valley, after coming out of a big hiatus and everything is understandable. But with this new record, they could be getting out there and starting again sorta, since thier last big hype was around 2004.
Craig and everyone is saying how good this album is going to be......they need to promote it!!

i think it's important that they launch the new site before the MTV performance, where they are no doubt going to get a ton of mainstream exposure again performing their new song and im sure after it people will start going to their website.. but it won't be functioning. Maybe they should add the new single to their myspace profile on that day to so people who like it can add it and give them heaps of exposure.

lizzy's just gotten the artwork from mgmt. to make changes on the vines myspace, so yeah, it's all being done about as last-minute as you can get.

she hopes to have the myspace changes up by tomorrow (saturday), but keep in mind she has a full-time job (whereas she does the myspace for free as a fan) and being handed the artwork this late-in-the-promo-game puts unnecessary pressure on her.
management set the album release date - it was their job to ensure the website/myspace/facebook/fanclub had all the info and artwork needed to build-up the album...preferably
in advance of its release!
and, yes, the forum link needs to be added.
