Are there any fans on this board? If you're into Shoegazer or Britpop music these guys are your original pioneers. Some of their 90's material sounds a whole lot like BRMC as well (or vice versa). I know they are certainly not for everyones taste:

*note the shaggy-haired kid with the tambourine in the video is a very young Bobby Gillespie, who went on to form and front Primal Scream

I listen to them. But I haven't listened that much to them but they're great. I've just started to really like shoegaze and it's really amazing smile.gif . Some favourite songs this far are Halfway to crazy, Gimme hell and Just like honey. Those are the only ones I can remember right now smile.gif

I love them. I think Darklands is realyl underrated.
Chubby Princess
one of my favourite bands! can't stop listening to 'you trip me up' right now.

They're fucking mint. One of my 'first' bands.

Didn't The Horrors support them a while ago? Oh, to have been there... ;_;

Edit: Indeed, the J&MC influence is very much present in BRMC's songs.

I'm not sure but I know BRMC are/were supporting them. At least the last time I checked the JAMC website it said that.

They are a really good band. My favourite songs are Never Understand and their covers of The Beach Boys "Surfin USA" and Syd Barretts "Vegetable Man" I don't really like the whole shoegaze thing at all, but I think of the Jesus and Mary Chain are in a similar vein to The Velvet Underground, who I also love.

Man I'd love to hear those, would anyone be so kind to upload them?

So is Ride's... but I only understood that after I got into Ride, logically.

Great band, I loved the chunky sounds on their Psycho Candy album

They aren't really shoegaze but are generally considered to be a major influence in its development with every song on Psychocandy drenched in heavy wall-of-sound style feedback and fuzz. They took a concept pioneered by the VU and magnified it 1000X. I would consider them post-punk though....or maybe "noise-pop". I hear the Velvet Underground, Beach Boys, Chameleons, Bauhaus and bands like that when I listen to them, though they are ultimately one of a kind.

I'm not calling them a Shoegaze band, I just don't like that genre. The Jesus and Mary Chain are way better than Shoegaze could ever be.

As for magnifying the Velvets, in my opinion songs like "I Heard Her Call My Name" or "Guess I'm Falling In Love" or maybe even "Extemporisation" are way more intense than The Jesus and Mary Chain were

I'm happy to upload them if someone gives me a website I can use to do such things? Or at least tell me how to lol.

I only have Vegetable Man on this shitty old casette a middle aged weirdo named "Moose" gave me a few years ago.

I'll upload Surfin' USA though, and some other cool covers they do.
CrazyDaisy
I don't really know them, but I love the song "Just like honey".

See, that's the thing. I bought "21 Singles" a few months ago and listened to it and my impressions weren't great, after all I'd heard about them. :/ The first three songs actually hurt my ears to listen to. D: But then there were some songs I loved like Just Like Honey, April Skies, Darklands, Happy When It Rains, Some Candy Talking, Almost Gold, Sometimes Always... etc. So I was wondering, do all their albums have that really noisy effect or what's a good album to start off with? Oh and I can really hear where BRMC got their sound from. tongue.gif

And don't forgot the hair. There's a lot of Mary Chain hair going on. laugh.gif
