Oh wait, it's released under Capitol. It probably means the label is just trying to squeeze the last drops of cash out of what they once owned (EDIT: oops, didn't see Lizzy posted that before me). I hate it when they do that, and the money is probably going solely to Capitol. Argh. Labels do that too often, and I really don't like the sound of "Best of The Vines". The best has yet to come in the form on album #4, heh. It kind of sounds as if they've disbanded, Best of's are usually released when the band stops playing.

How can it really damage their image, though? I don't think Capitol will really promote the piece, will it? So not many people will buy it anyway, right?

I remember when a label did that to my former fave band when they switched labels, I wrote hate mail to the management, heh. But that disc kind of really was 'best of' cause the band went downhill on the new label.

Well if they have a best of now it makes it look like they won't have much more in the way of anything coming out anymore AND it has no new, unreleased, hard to find, or live tracks on it. Its not even a good best of album.....

Is the track list known yet? It's not as if it wouldn't be easy to guess which ones are on the album, though.

If it makes any of you feel better, the living end released a best of before their last album, and their next one went straight to number 1 in oz.
The best thing they can do management wise is firstly so say it wasn't their choice to release that album and make sure that is known about the place, and secondly to try and promote this new album as a big fresh start for them with a new label.

Capitol Records have dropped quite a number of artists(The Vines, Moby...) and now as they're not getting

the same income as they used to because of the sales - they've come down to this.

Seems that the release has been pushed back to March, which coincidentally is probably about the time the album #4 is going to get released (I presume). Can I please stab whoever is responsible for this in the eye? I hope it doesn't hurt the sale figures though I'm sure it will somehow.

But. The Vines are to pick the songs? Get your facts straight, you lazy arses.

This site, however, lists the Best of album in 'CD releases for the weeks of Dec. 18, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1', so I'm not so sure about the release date any more.

Best Of is out March 11.

thats really disapointing, and it totally seems like capitol is trying to cash in on them now that they are going to be releasing a new album, especially if these appearances in the US go well, sucks that they're being screwed by them, but hopefully they'll get a better record deal this time!

Pathetic. People who are new to hearing the Vines may hear a new song of theirs from the radio or something, and then once they go out to buy it, they'll be confronted with the 'best of'.
I can guess if someone would want to get a taste of a band they started to fancy, they'd obviously get the 'best of'. So that's a potential 4th album sale dead and money to Capitol coz the 'best of' also has a damn 'NEW!' fluro sign over it too *pfft*

i dont think this release is too bad, i mean the guys still get a bit of money from it, they wrote the songs after all so im sure they get paid royalties. it's a good track list it could recruit some new fans to the Viney goodness although it's useless for any fans with all the albums.

and let's be honest if this album turned out being the complete b-sides and rarities compilation from the capitol years everyone here would be salivating over it and hitting the store to buy it in March but because it's a comp of stuff you guys already own......

That, I agree with. But Best of albums tend to be rather useless unless the band hasn't had a really long career with a bunch of albums and you want to get into them. The Vines has released three albums so I find a best of album slightly useless.

But if it makes more people listen to them then ok. But it's only ok if they buy all the other albums afterwards as well, and the new one of course
