I think you have overlooked that the boys might have been faced with that list of songs to choose from and made the decision to cover this one for 2 reasons. 1) a song like the divinyls is so well known that to cover it would be a) nothing new and b ) incapable of eclipsing the original. 2) when they chose this song maybe what they heard (instead of some shitty screaming teens who use the word 'totally' far too much) is the potential for what they could do with it, and where they could take it. They won't have just gone "let's do that one because we like it" they will have listened to all of them (I hope) and thought about which one they could make the most out of. Bands don't just rush into the studio without thinking about what they are going to do, it will be exactly the same with the covers. Whatever choices they were given, they will have thought about it much more carefully than you give them credit for.

I think the only reason people thought Craig actually likes that song was because of the "Each track was chosen by the artist for what it means to them personally..." which is kinda misleading, haha. I guess they were just saying that to be nice, because of course they wouldn't say "Each track was chosen by the artist so they can do a better version than the shitty and unoriginal...original."

Yes, I have to be honest, I listened to that veronica's song and I can't help but find it annoying ...please don't get me wrong, I really am big on having respect for musicians and what they do even if it's not my cup of tea and I do have respect for them. And I'm not saying I could do better (but perhaps make it a bit less annoying... ahh I kid, I kid).

Point being, the cover could be awesome. And I am sure it will be better than the original at least to me

The Vines once again managed to make me love them even more. The cover surpasses the original by ten thousand mega units of awesome on the scale of awesomeness I just invented.
I take back what I said about that they shouldn't have picked this song; it was a perfect choice and they made it absolutely beautiful.
Hearing Craig's voice again brought tears of joy in my eyes. I can't imagine what I'll do when I hear album #4 for the first time - I just might burst into a cloud of shiny glitter of happiness.

doesn't change the fact that the lyrics are still shit though. They honestly could have been written by a 13 year old. Maybe this is an illustration of the fact that it doesn't matter too much what you sing as long as the melody is good and its sung with some sort of feeling.

Having listened to the song pretty much the whole day, I think I can say my favourite part of the song is backvocals where Craig goes "follow me". I love the harmonies. And I really love the drums on the end of the song. I think slowing it down a bit was a great choice, too.

I just listened to the original and all I can say is that our boys are geniuses. The original still makes me cringe, but the cover is simply mind-blowing.

Make such a bullshit song with ridiculous lyrics so natural and sweet sounding? It's seriously addictive, I've been listening to it all day. Yes the lyrics are still the same, but I'm too distracted by all the beautiful melodies to even care, which I didn't even notice in the original for some reason. i dont think that craig sounds bored or uninterested in the lyrics, i think they did a completely different take on the song to the veronicas, like the veronicas its this teeny sickly sweet first love kinda song, where as the vines are taking it from maybe a more mature point of view, as in they've sorta been there done that and its a more sincere version lyrically, since its not all that niiave yong love thing, its from comeone who's maybe been in love before and all that
does that even make sense?
i just think how the vines saw the song lyrically, and how the veronicas saw it are two completely different things, just because they're the same words doesnt mean that they've brought the same meaning to the song

From the view where I sit, the use of Craig's voice alone makes the lyrics sound more mature, whereas the Veronicas' singing makes them fill me with disgust. Just went to check out how many plays the song has so far, and yes, still on top! I hope the record company can tell that this was all because of the Vines and their talent...And hopefully sign the boys, so that the album can be out earlier?
