VINES ANNOUNCE AUSTRALIAN APRIL SHOWS
Vines renaissance continues with more live action
Following their triumphant return to the live arena in 2006 and their rapturously received Big Day Out performances over the new year, THE VINES are pleased to announce that they will be playing three headline shows in Adelaide, Melbourne and Brisbane this coming April. In addition they are also excited to be taking part in a busy Easter weekend of festival appearances covering Blackjack (Perth, April 5th), The Great Escape (Sydney, April 6th) and Southern Roots (Hobart, April 7th).
Starting with their blistering live comeback at Splendour In The Grass in July last year, The Vines have had a memorable 2006 and early 2007. Following their now legendary return to the stage in Byron Bay after a difficult two year hiatus, the band travelled to the UK where they played amazing sets at the Reading and Leeds festivals, before returning home to play three sold out shows at Sydney’s Annandale Hotel and two sold out Corner Hotels in Melbourne. All gigs sold out in record time, with the first Sydney show going in 2 minutes. For a band that appeared to be on the brink of total self-destruction only two years ago, it was an amazing show of faith from their fans, whose belief The Vines repaid by playing the best shows of their lives.
The trend continued on the Big Day Out tour where rabid fans greeted the band in every city, and were treated to performances that indicated that last years shows were no fluke. Thrilling, packed with hits and highlights from all three Vines albums and sounding like they were playing for their lives, the band finally lived up to the expectation that greeted them upon the release of their debut album Highly Evolved in 2002.
Joining The Vines for these April shows are two of their favourite bands. Stepping in to the main support slot, Red Riders are one of the most exciting acts in Australia right now. Their debut album 'Replica Replica' was recently Triple J's Feature Album, and has been garnering critical acclaim across the country. They spent a great deal of 2006 on the road with The Living End and Little Birdy and played gigs with the likes of The Zutons, Howling Bells and Snow Patrol, plus headlining slots at the Hopetoun Stage at Homebake and the Local Produce stage at Sydney’s Big Day Out. A brilliantly frenzied set from this fine Sydney 4 piece is a certainty on all shows.
Opening proceedings all the way from Perth are The Silents, set to make their mark with their own mix of raw, blues-driven rock and roll sitting hand-in-hand with hallucinatory, melancholic ballads. Having pricked up the ears of many a music fan (including the Vines) with their track “Nightcrawl” on Triple J in 2006, The Silents take their psychedelic and rock influences and turn it all into their own impressive creation. It’s going to be a fine triple bill.
Given the speed at which The Vines 2006 shows sold out, and the fervour that has greeted them at every gig since Splendour, expect tickets these three April shows to sell out immediately. Enjoy the renaissance!
