i don't have any interesting story behind my love for the vines. i was just randomly watching mtv one night (back in 2002, i was 17) and i saw the get free video and thought it was amazing. i was like "who is this band?!?!"
since then, i've pretty much been hooked. it started out kinda slow, but now i have to listen to them atleast once a day . . . and atleast one of the songs has to be winning days. it's def my favorite song. i loved it the moment i heard it and i think the video is lovely. the vines have really helped me in the past. just listening to the music can change my mood instantly and put a smile on my face. even if it's just a brief moment, it's a brief moment of bliss. nothing life changing, but the simple fact that they make me very happy and contribute to my everyday routine gives them a special place in my heart.
there is no other band out there like them. they are truly unique and they deserve the upmost respect.
the.end.

Hmm.. I have basically the exact same story. Even the age is the same

Only I watched VH1

Guess they stayed on my mind for a couple of months before I bought their album when I was in Manchester for a football match. Saw the album in a Virgin Megastore and I thought "well they're supposed to be quite decent".
So I bought their album and have been a fan of them ever since.
Autumn Shade II, Get Free, Winning Days, Vision Valley are some of my faves.

My age was the same in 2002 when I first heard the vines too

...I suppose we're all 21 or so? Yeah I first saw them on the 2002 VMAs with the Hives. I was like...wow that little guy sure likes to scream hahaha

but I definately thought they were more interesting and had more personality than the Hives (not that the Hives are bad). And I checkedout their CD and I really did like them, but it wasn't until Winning Days that I became a really big fan and the vines really stood out to me as a special, unique band that shows such a variation in styles and sounds.
I have to say that they definately are one of my all time favorite bands

This thread doesn't make sense.
Isnt it what impact they had on your life, not how you got into them?

I was watching Rove Live when they done Get Free and Highly Evolved and was blown away and thought he was the most exciting singer id seen since Kurt Cobain. I thought it was great to finally see someone different who put on a great show and wasnt like every other boring old band that plays every song exactly like their CD..

Awe, i started listening to them a bit at the end of 2002, and my brother and i were having one of those "what should i get you for christmas" conversations with out actually asking, and we were both saying how we liked the vines, so i figured since i really like the vines and wanted their album and so does he, and since im going to be forced to listen to this everyday, the vines are a band i would enjoy listening to so i went out and brought it
so anyway, come christmasday, and i opened my pressent from him on and he'd brought me the same cd

vines = <3
yeah, I can't really see them having 'Impacted' anyones life as such, maybe diehard fans, I dunno, but sure I had a moment where I'm like, yeah this band is fuckn awesome, I want more More.
Probably my favourite Vines moment was when they played Splendour, you just had to be there, there was this excitement in the air, like oooh, who is it going to be.. Then the roadies brought out the Vines drum, and you could hear these gasps and like, 'oh no way, The Vines!', even the non- fans got right into it. It was definitely my best Splendour moment. I still listen to the set that I taped off Triple J all the time, just fantastic playing.
The Vines impacted my life in a way that I now come to their forums and pretty much read everything, even the shit, and I'm probably gaining weight doing it. The end.

I guess The Vines have had a pretty big impact on my life, one of the best weeks of my life was when Jen, Maddie, Joey and I travelled around to all the guys shows in September, and travelling around to all the Big Day Outs this year was a huge amount of fun too. I'd never have gone on all those trips without The Vines. And I'd never have met some of my best friends! Their music means a huge amount to me and through them and this forum I've met some really incredible people and had a great time doing it!

If I'd never gotten into The Vines I would have missed out on so much, both on a musical level and on a personal level. So thank goodness I bought Winning Days that day back in April 2004! Best impulse buy of my life

.
ok, allie proves me wrong, haha.

for Winning Days

yeah . . . i guess this thread kinda went a different direction. never posted a thread before so i thought i'd give it a shot.
hmmmm, well i could try and fix that by adding that the vines def changed the way i listen to music. i don't listen to the same bands i used to. i've got an ear for different and better things. if that makes any sense . . .

They made me listen to indie music, basicly. I mean, I'd have ended there eventually anyway but they were the first.
I actually heard them the first time when I was 12/13 and there was this Pink/Vines mashup. I loved them at once but didn't know their name. So I only got into them when Winning Days was released.

yeah the vines have deffinetly impacted my life.. i got into them really fast, i heard them and was pretty much hooked.. id never heard a band that appealed to me as much, so fast. I just had this feeling everytime i listen to them. I couldnt contain myself, i MADE my best friend and my brother listen to them, showed them videos, talked about them obssesively. but my efforts payed off becuase they are just as big of fans of them now as i am

but yeah they have totaly impacted the way i think about stuff, and turned me on to other types of music, so i was just in my music bubble i had been in. they have a VERY special place in my heart, my best freind and i have a LOT of great vines obsession memories as well

The Vines impacted and impact my life yet.
I know them when i see the tv in a national channel of music called "Via X". I saw in that moment "Get Free" and loved the song. Well later i know that video its so top in MTV too...I i saw it more and more
.So i decided download music from the band...And well i downloaded a lot i think....inclusive Sun Child
.
But when i goes to one music store i decided buy it original.
And of that time to now i still love the band. I love all the songs!! They are so special to me
.
When i listen to The Vines the first time, i change a lot my personality..i dont know my life its more happy since that time

I was on some crazy online music site in late 2001 and it had a streaming version of Factory. Really, out of boredom I clicked the link and listened to the song and I was immediatly hooked. The next day I bought the Factory single off of Amazon for 35 dollars, but it was totally worth it. Since then, I need to get my daily Vines dose, and the song Winning Days is the song I always play when I'm depressed and it makes me feel all better

Ever since I listened to The Vines, I don't hate people as much and I actually made some friends!

Just to add to what I said earlier - my dad passed away 9 days ago. If it weren't for The Vines I wouldn't have had the last holiday with my dad, my dads mum wouldn't have seen him for 2 years before he died and some of my dads best friends also wouldn't have seen him. I asked dad to come with me to Melbourne when I went down there for the BDO. We spent a week there staying at my grandmas house looking at art galleries, and spending a lot of time together. He went into hospital 2 weeks later and never came out. So if I didn't buy that Vines CD back in 2004 I wouldn't have had those last memories of my dad. My grandma was telling me when she was up here for the funeral how glad she was that she got to see her son again before he died, she wouldn't have had that if it weren't for The Vines and my stubborn determination to see their every performance.

Oh Allie, that's so sad!

I'm so sorry for your loss.

I hope you're doing fine.
You made it sound so nice, describing how you had a good time with him because of The Vines. The guys would be so touched by this.

That is one of those happy sad experences where you go thats really sad that your dad died, but it's really nice that you could spend some quality time with your dad.
I don't have anything like that, but i do know that ever since i was a small child i have had crazes on things, when i was in kindergarden (and everyone else was into horses) i was into mozart, by year 3 it was Dvorak, by year 8 it was the Doors, year 9 began my vines craze....to think back on it i supose i started listening to them after watching Freaky Friday you see this would have been last year 2006, and i was going i need another band to listen to. Then i watched that movie and remembered the vines...you see i am so uncool that knowing me is social suicide so i wasn't into the vines in 2002 because only cool kids were (most of the cool kids don't even know the vines are still together now). I really loved the video clip to Ride which is another reason i got into the vines.
There is my life story.
