AHh so sad that the Libertines have finally broken up. One of the best bands out today for sure, original and had 2 awesome albums.

Its unfortunate that Pete Doherty and Carl Barat could not sort out their differences, mainly concerning drugs, but shit happens.

I'd like to thank the libertines for 2 killer albums, that've had great influence on me. Fuck razorlight, they're good, but there is no way they can replace what the libertines stood for politically and musically.

I look forward to Pete's new band, Babyshambles and any other musical aspirations the rest of the libertines have set for out to achieve.

Urgh, Babyshambles really aren' that good. I saw them live and they just wasted everyone's time with a crappy 40 minutes set. No-one seemed bothered either as long as they got a glimpse of Pete. he's really in not it state to be charging people to see his gigs.


It is a shame that they've gone though, they did create 2 good albums. I think I'd be more interested in what Carldid to be honest though.

well I'm listening For lovers right now (I finally got the video and I'm very happy about it).
the thing that really depresses me is the talk about the Libs break up. I know it's a very topical subject but I prefer to skip it cause we all know that's a painful subject and there's really not much to say.

i haven't heard any of babyshambles stuff...so i can't talk about that, but i can say that i did enjoy the libertines so if babyshambles is like them, it will be fine

They aren't the same really, although people will erroneously state otherwise. And Pete overshadows all of the other members which is just unfortunate really since they are the ones who at least care about their fans, being the ones who actually turn up to the fucking gigs.

i absolutly agree with what you are saying here, but you need to be correct in what you are accusing people of in your debate.

Oh the biting sarcasm. If you look up near the start of this particular conversation I did give a few reasons, albeit thinly described ones.

First of all, we are expected to believe that Johnny is someone possessed by the spirit of rock and roll. A quick look at them live and you can see it's all just show and performance, the jumping around, the self-obsessed removal of the shirt, the bit where he goes into the crowd to meet the plebs. It's all boring and has been done before. It really is so formulaic and so terribly cliched that it does nothing other than bore anyone who has seen it all before. It really is like he has read a book on How to Be a Rock Star and scrawled the most important points in permanent marker onto his arms.

"Whatever. It's all about the music though"

And the above wouldn't matter at all if he was actually capable of writing some good songs. But he isn't. It sounds so self-consciously radio/NME-friendly that you suspect every song was written for a particular demographic, namely the 16 year old NME-buying, screaming-girl market. And that just isn't rock and roll at all. People always bang on about how dull bands like Keane and Travis are, but Razorlight are equally giulty of this offence. Actually, there are more so as they attempt to promise something and fail to deliver the goods.

And lyrically,they are awful too. You know a girl with a golden touch Johnny? Well..great, I can think of about 2 people who care.

Well, you shouldn't. And I'm not just saying that because I think they are shit, but because they are just people who you think have written more than their fair share of top songs. Morrissey is probably my favourite performer at the minute and I have seen him live 4 times this year but I don't think he's a god.

Oh I like it, mostly. It was an enormous improvement on the album before it ('Maladjusted') and had a better style of music too with some great electronic bits in it. "First of the Gang.." bores me a hell of a lot though, due to both the fact that it has been overplayed to death and isn't that strong a track and the fact that I always get slightly bored when Morrissey starts prattling on about criminals. Most of the b-sides were great too, often surpassing the a-side. And 'Irish Blood.."was a great choice for his first single in 7 years.

So in conclusion: a very strong 'comeback' album I thought.
