a dripping tap so annoying? I could go and stop it - it's only about six paces there and back - but I'm too lazy.
It is really annoying, though.
What sound annoys YOU?

I've had to get up and turn the tap off. It was super-gay.

My ex-bitch really likes country and I used to have to listen to some absurd stuff. I'm not saying all country is absurd, but some of it certainly is.
Thankfully, she likes some decent things as well.

The reason (at least for me) that dripping taps are so annoying is that my brain keeps looking for patterns, so if I'm trying to do something else my brain keeps waiting for the next drip and pretty soon that's all I can think about. This is also the same reason that I can only use digital clocks in my bedroom or I would be up all night waiting for the next tick.
Things that also annoy me: people who chew with their mouths open/breath hard when they're eating.
comradestripe
Nov 19 2004, 04:28 PM
Yes! Once you've started listening to a dripping tap/ticking clock, your sleep is buggered. I swear the clock I used to use only ticked loudly sometimes, though. The trickster.
My brother is the noisiest eater in the world. It's ridiculous.
People who breathe noisily during exams = super-annoying. I used to sit near two heavy-breathers in History, and it was terrible during tests.

I drum on surfaces a lot, which irritates people no end. I hate people who exaggerate their yawns and sneezes.
Like someone sneezes really loudly and then goes "OH! BLESS ME!" which apart from being an annoying phrase is also making more noise. SHUSH!

Nov 19 2004, 04:36 PM
Yes! "Bless me" is terrible! I always get a bit embarrassed when people say "bless you" too. Is it right to say "thank you" back?
Also annoying is the fact that if I'm at the parental home and on the computer, which is in my parents' room, and the door is closed and my father comes in, he always pretends to be really surprised that I'm in there, despite the fact that I quite often am and he can probably hear the typing.
I quite often jig my leg up and down, which drives people mad.

Aaaah, yes... Heavy-breathers... Now that's a concept I'm familiar with. My mother KEEPS breathing in my nek, while I'm behind my computer. >_< She does nothing, she's basically just...standing there..breathing.. SO annoying. I don't want people hanging over my shoulder while I'm behind my computer ANYWAY, so it's even more annoying when people start breathing like astmatics while you're trying to type something properly.

I was typing an email to my sister the other day, and my friend hangs over my shoulder trying to read it. Since he doesn't speak Afrikaans it didn't work, so instead he tries to pronounce evrything and ends up making these spitting and gagging noises. I'm like :"shut up, go and do something else"

Yes, a "return thankyou" is customary. Sneeze etiquette is quite a big thing for some people. For those who don't know, "bless you" is said after someone sneezes as it used to be thought the sneezer was posessed by some kind of demon. Therefore, a blessing was necessary from the sneezee to the sneezer to cleanse them. I dunno if a Priest had to do it. Imagine that if, every time you sneezed, you had to go and find a Priest to bless you. The Priest would get well pissed off after the 8th one. What if you sneeze 6 times in a row (as i always do)? Would you need 6 blessings? Sneezing, eh... crazy stuff.
Things that annoy me:
- Upspeak
- People who say "Once you raise your voice to me, you've lost the argument". WRONG!
- Dogs. I really hate dogs. They need too much attention.
- Oasis guitar solos.
- Listening to people talk about football. They all get so serious about it.

I'm afraid I quite often break off a bit of something and leave the rest of it in the cupboard - ie a bit of a cookie, or I open a packet of crisps and only take a few. It's to do with pretending that I'm not a fatty because I'm not having the whole thing. My mother does it too, and it drives my brother mad.

Oh, also things that annoy me, bands like NFG, Simple Plan, Yellowcard, etc. Those pansy emo pop punk bands with the lead singers who have those incredibly annoying, whiny voices. I can't stand those voices. Especially NFG.
And also the fact that they wont DIE. They just keep coming and coming and coming, meanwhile there's tons of great bands out there who aren't getting noticed who anything.

i'm not sure if its from the plague or not but i know people used to say "bless you" because they thought when sneezed evil spirits could get into your body, and by blessing you they were keeping you safe from being possessed.

Nov 20 2004, 07:11 PM
I read somewhere that it was believed that when you sneezed, your soul briefly left your body, so people said bless you so you were protected until it had a chance to return.
I'm not sure if it started with the plague or not though.

Stuff That Annoys Me: (Stolen from funnyjunk.com)
People who point at their wrist while asking for the time. I know where my watch is buddy, where the hell is yours? Do I point at my crotch when I ask where the bathroom is?
People who are willing to get off their ass to search the entire room for the TV remote because they refuse to walk to the TV and change the channel manually.
When people say "Oh you just want to have your cake and eat it too". Screw off. What good is a goddamn cake if you can't eat it? What, should I eat someone else's cake instead?
When people say "It's always in the last place you look". Of course it is. Why the hell would you keep looking after you've found it? Do people do this? Who and where are they?
When people say, while watching a movie "Did you see that?" No dicknose, I paid $9.00 to come to the theatre and stare at the frigging ceiling up there. What did you come here for?
When something is "new and improved", which is it? If it's new, then there has never been anything before it. If it's an improvement, then there must have been something before it.
When a cop pulls you over and then asks if you know how fast you were going? You should know asshole, you frigging pulled me over.
When people say "Life is short." What the hell?? Life is the longest damn thing anyone ever does!! What? Are they going to do something that's longer?
When people ask "Can I BORROW a piece of paper?" Sure, but please don't return the favor! It's one god damn piece of paper!
When you are waiting for the bus and someone ask you "Did the bus come yet?" If the bus came I would not be standing here asshole!
People who ask "Can I ask you a question?" Didn't really give me a choice there, did ya buddy?
