I know some people are interested in Morrissey, so I thought I'd say he was absolutely ace, and post the setlist. It included Bigmouth Strikes Again and a cover of Redondo Beach, which is more sex than a hundred-person orgy:

How Soon Is Now
First Of The Gang To Die
November Spawned A Monster
Don't Make Fun Of Daddy's Voice
Bigmouth Strikes Again
I Like You
Redondo Beach (it really was great. He did it fantastically)
Let Me Kiss You
Subway Intro/Munich Air Disaster 1958
There Is A Light That Never Goes Out (biggrin.gif)
The More You Ignore Me The Closer I Get
Friday Mourning
I Have Forgiven Jesus
The World Is Full Of Crashing Bores (biggrin.gif)
Shoplifters Of The World Unite
Irish Blood English Heart
You Know I Couldn't Last

Encore
Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me

He introduced There Is A Light by saying "I used to be in a band with three very miserable people...there were some great songs, though". There was some Blunkett/Blair-bashing before Crashing Bores, I think, and he said "I can't always be wrong" before Irish Blood. He also said that he hoped that we'd already shoplifted all of our Christmas presents before Shoplifters. Oh, and before I Have Forgiven Jesus (his latest single), he said "I've just released a charity single...the charity is me..." and "I have forgiven Jesus...but I don't think the feeling's mutual".

He started dressed as a vicar, and changed his shirt in the customary way a few times. Last Night was probably the most special moment, though; there was a massive disco ball type thing over the stage, and it made Earls Court seem really intimate, which I'm pretty sure is otherwise impossible. Morrissey was trying (unsuccessfully) not to cry by the end of it. It was great.

Someone on the Morrissey-solo board's posted up little clips of the funny bits. I haven't watched them yet, but:

This is farewell:

congratulations...did anyone jump on the stage?
comradestripe
No; loads of people were grabbing at him, and one tried to pull him into the crowd, but that was it.
king koopa
too bad...the best part is when they leap onto the stage..sounds like an ace concert though
comradestripe
Would've been impossible at Earls Court, I think. There's only one part of the stage that gets anywhere near the crowd.
king koopa
oh when i saw him the security was shit, so numerous stalkers decided to leap up on the stage...who opened for him?
comradestripe
James Maker. There were rumours of PJ Harvey as she supported a couple of other dates, but sadly she didn't at Earls Court. We didn't see the support anyway as we were japing elsewhere.

Also, Morrissey said 'there are goodbyes and there are farewells...this is farewell', which some people are assuming to mean that he's not going to play any more. I wouldn't have thought he'd end on that show, though, because if anything, it was pretty short.

The giant MORRISSEY letters at the back of the stage were ace, too.

those were ace...and the way morrissey threw the mike around when he would dance. that was the best part for me...that's interesting that he opened with how soon is now. he did that a lot later in our show...
comradestripe
Yes. He has an amazing stage presence for one person.

The letters and disco ball during Last Night I Dreamt made the whole thing life-affirming, they really did.

We missed How Soon Is Now because we got there late. I don't really mind, though, because it's not one of my favourite Smiths songs. I think he's opened with it since Reading/Leeds.

oh well...i much prefer there is a light that never goes out and frankly, mr shankly...do you know if this is his last tour?
comradestripe
I don't. As I said, people are thinking so from what he said, and the fact that he once said something about ending his career with a show at Earls Court, but...I dunno. I really can't help but feel that he would've played a much longer set if it were his last show. He only played for an hour and twenty minutes-ish.

yeah, this can't be it...he could have played longer but you never know with morrissey. he can be unpredictable at times and he may surprise us all with another tour.

Also, he still has a whole load of songs that have either been recorded or need to be recorded. A few days before the Earl's Court gig he recorded 4 session tracks for BBC Radio 2 and 2 of these were new songs, so I think he'll be around for another year or two.

There is a light that never goes out is my favorite smiths song. I wish I could've seen him one of the two times he was in chicago last year. *sigh*

I'd heard him do that live once or twice before the Earl's Court gig and, in all fairness, it sounds a bit flat live for some reason. I'm happy enough without it on a set list.
Thomhatesmusic
yeah, i can imagine it not being a blast live. ...Its just one of my fav songs of 'you are the quarry'
