What are you reading now? (Besides the forum
)
As in a magazine or novel.
I have to read Chronicle of a Death Foretold for my English class. I don't really like it that much...probably because I am being forced to read it.

I read some of Mary Robinson's Lyrical Tales earlier, and didn't really enjoy them. I must read The Prelude by Wordsworth and The Wanderer by Frances Burney (often, I think, shortened to Fanny Burney. This might be immature, but pahahaha) over the holiday, but will probably end up reading a book of Alan Partridge scripts instead.
Also read this morning: The Observer, which had a 2004 TV quiz in which my friend and I did embarrassingly well.

I just finished an entire semester of reading approximately 500-800 pages worth of material a week, so that is a little blurry. However, the last thing I read for my sheer enjoyment was "Geek Love" by Katherine Dunn. If you guys ever want a quirky little story that reflects everyday life, you should read it.

i just got a question for all you people who do read.
who do you find out about these books...?
like some of you's are listing these obscure books no one has ever heard of.
of course we all know to kill a mockingbird and cather in the rye, etc but like its not like music where you can listen to a song and see if you dig it, so how would you know if this obscure book is any good even?

There's a thing called a library where you can read them for free. And on the back of the book there's a thing called a 'summary'

what if you hate it after 3 or 4 pages?
do you return the book?
usually the first few pages give syou an understanding of what the book will be like. true?

No. You have to read the whole book to see if it is good or not. The first 4 pages tell you nothing basically. It's like if you hear the first 4 seconds of a song. Are you going to change the station if you don't like those first 4 seconds?

not always sometimes the beggining of the book can be shite, i usually give it a couple of chapters and if i cant get into then....it dissapears
its true about covers of books some covers can look great and the actual book itself is appaling whereas a not so gr8 looking cover could have the best story ever.
i go to the library also cuz i cant keep buying books especially if they are shite.

fucking better than i do! we get an hour of library class a fortnight in school, we pick a book and start to read it. we must have it read and usually have written an essay on it by the next class. i kept one book out for 2 months, didnt read it at home, so in that 4 hours i didnt even get to the 40 page mark. i ended up guessing wat the story would be like and got a b+
i cant read something im forced to. i have to find it interesting, and thats why i only read magazines and the internet.
and as for you asking were we get hints to get books from, washu recommended some books to me bout a week or 2 ago.
and i always judge a book by its cover, if they want me to pick their book up and buy it they should make it bright and colourful! and i NEVER go into libraries, only the one in school cause we're made to. the last time i was in the library in my town it was a couple of summers ago
