country version of Get Free AOL? sounds horrible.

Please remember that Craig once referred to the 'Ms. Jackson' cover as "country rock". His perception of country doesn't appear to have much basis in reality. The AOL sessions have been posted on the video thread many times if you're interested in hearing the song.

god, i hope. though they might have recorded it back in january 2003 when they worked with wayne on some demos, including the 'give up give out give in' one. craig alluded to the song 'going gone' being a possible b-side as far back as then, and they were of course already performing it live. maybe they'll say in the credits. either way....




as tienah pointed out, it's the 'slow' get free from the aol sessions - apparently if craig says it's 'country', the record company are willing to take his word on it.





last i heard from the EMI Oz rep, it's set for 'media' release june 12 (which means fully pushed to music stations) and the single should follow in mid-july. he was very vague.

Man, I still feel like cracking up when I read about the 'country version of get free' . Someone really needs to set Craig straight . Does it really say that on the record? People will be like

Why do i feel so funny to buy a single? Did you know i've never bought a single in my life? I guess it seems fruitless to buy a song i already have on the album. It's like...what for?
I know...i know...we should do it anyway as a way to pay them back. It helps them money-wise i guess, it helps support the band, i know....cause other then that, i see no reason.
I mean i can get it... but i'd only be doing it for Craig. Cause like i said, i'm not normally a "single" buyer.

Singles are really just for the hardcore fans, I think, and wankers who only like the singles and not the rest of the songs. I usually wouldn't buy the single of a band I wasn't passionate about.

besides helping the band, i want the 'going gone' and 'gross out' demos.

most of the vines singles come backed with songs not available on their albums. c, as much as you love 'don't go' the fact of the matter is, you have it illegally if you don't own the single. same for 'give up, give out, give in,' 'watch the world,' 'ms. jackson,' and shall i go on? that's why singles can be very much worth the purchase.

i didn't mean to guilt you into buying them! i've been lucky and been able to buy most of mine at our local best buy, believe it or not. if you don't want to use ebay, a good online site for vines merch is Espirit. i was gonna get the 'anysound' singles from them until i found them cheaper on ebay.

my point really is that the vines are typically good about throwing on something special to make the single purchase worth it. now, if we can just convince them to go back and do a proper recording of 'take a sunday' as a future b-side...






at present, there are no plans to release it as a single in the states, and quite frankly, i do think capitol has given up on promoting the vines here at all. wonderful ray - who was such a help on this site and a support to the band in the past - left capitol a month ago to take a job with disney, and no one appears to have taken his place handling the band. it's disheartening.

Agreed. Is there anyone who thinks that 'Give Up' isn't worth the $5 a single costs? If there is, please don't tell me, as there is a high risk that doing so will result in me showing up on your doorstep one morning and slapping you, and I'm not big on travel or mornings.

Anyways, I am mentally unstable, so I have literally bought every different Vines thing that I have ever encountered in a record store, save for a random cover album I saw in NYC once. And I've still not quite forgiven myself for skipping that one.

That's so stupid. How hard can it be to send a promo cd out to radio stations? And surely if any song was going to ge the band back into the spotlight then it was 'Anysound'. So much for the 'hoping it will sell gradually plan'.
We really should email or contact Capitol because 'Anysound' and 'Nothin's Comin'' have the potential to be radio hits. What was the point of making a video and puting it on youtube?

That news about America isn't great, but I think the momentum is starting to build in Australia. DLTTR only seems to now be getting into the consumers minds, it was #10 last week and #6 this week on a countdown show on channel v, and ofcourse next week is the channel v show, and last week was the triple j show which seems to have been highly successful. So who knows...hopefully the word spreads and everything

Yeah, I agree. It definately is a shame that Capitol is doing nothing in America . But yes, in Australia they are doing quite well it seems. I also hope that it might catch on elsewhere

the aussie music charts are crap, you only needa sell 4000 singles to get a number one, thats why we have stupid ppl like shannon noll and all those othe ridols in the top ten

anyway, I don't think I'll be asking my dad for anything anytime soon ...I've been too pissed off to concentrate on exams cause I just had $250 stolen and I know who has it and I want it back. Well, they didn't directly steal it, it's a really long story and it's driving me nuts.

I wish I had a job. I bet my mom would get me the Anysound singles if it's only $15US on ebay. But she doesn't know how to use a computer, dead serious.

I know that some sort of gadget/program that enables you to record music from vinyl onto your computer exists. I don't know what it's called and I don't have it, but I know it exists.
