I heard it was cancelled because there was a creative disagreement between Jhonan Vasquez and Nicklodean. Nicklodean thought the series was too 'dark' for a children's audience and Jhonan didn't want to change it.

I really like Invader Zim. Did you know that you can find a little "easter egg"? I think that's what you call it. If you have the episodes on video, on every intro of the winding tubes, on it's reflection you will find Gir. I forgot at what precise moment. If you want to see it, you'll have to do more research. I'm too lazy and because my friend showed it to me.
