'Vision Valley' is set to be the lead review in the new issue of Australian Rolling Stone, featuring John Lydon/Johnny Rotten on the cover (May 2006). The magazine also includes a Vines interview with Craig, Andy Kelly and Wayne Connelly. Remember how Wayne joked that Craig liked to scare people by jumping out at them from behind doors? Well, he'll elaborate and share some other Craig anecdotes in the feature. "Asperger's Rock" will also make a reappearance - seems Craig may have been behind that afterall.



My money is on Allie, but whichever of you aussies gets your mitts on this baby first, do you mind scanning and posting for the rest of us?

well, rolling stone here didn't exactly run the quote in context did they? when this article was read to me, it was obvious craig was taking the piss.

i'm not sure when RS comes out in oz - i'ts monthly, and j said it'd be out next week, but i figured you guys could be on the lookout. someone has already posted the issue on ebay.

But what sucks about the review is that they maintain that Craig has major songwriting talent, but he has "given up." . At the end, they wrote this: "Whether Nicholls can rediscover his muse is a moot point, as Vision Valley contains every bit of magic he has in his possesion - just not pieced together the way it sound be. He hasn't lost his talent. He just doesn't care to control it anymore."

well, that makes absolutely no sense to me ...I'm not even taking my opinion into account, I just don't see what they're getting at.

Really shit that they gave it 2 1/2 stars. 3 would have been ok even though it deserves more than that. it seems that the average rating they gave albums in here was about 3. and the lowest was 2.

j warned me about the rating, and read me the review over the phone. she's not even a vines fan and said the review was lame. the guy cops to craig's talent thru-out the review, but it's like he was never going to give them a high score. meh, rolling stone reviews are typically worthless anyway unless it's some long-time staff writer like david fricke or maybe rob sheffield whose reviews carry some weight.

the interview is the reason to pick up a copy.

I know, it was like he was making up reasons to give them a low score pathetic!

The article was written by Andrew Weaver. He used to do to update the aussie news for the vines back in the highly evolved days. Obviously his opinion has changed over time and in the end it is his opinion and you have to respect that. Dont really agree with his review here, but he his still one of my fave critics. There are a lot of shit ones around that dont even comment on the music i.e. drum media's review of 'dont listen to the radio''. That dude made a critique of a newspaper article about them, instead of the actual single they were supposed to be reviewing-shithouse...It's like that every week, gives me the shits.

And they still have jobs...

but we cant get it in the US, i wish Rolling Stone was international instead of there being different versions

Rolling Stone has a tiny readership on Oz, most of the major papers have given good reviews and thats much more important.

im glad there is an interview in there as well, i gess it worth getting then, i hate when there is only one little thing in a mag that you wont. is there no pics or no new pics in it?

LOL I lurve that article! Mostly cuz of Craig scarin' people...funny story...my brother tried that on me once...I walked in the house (where I thought no one was home) and all the lights were off...as I walked down the hall and turned the corner...he jumped out and I screamed right as I punched him as hard as I could in the face he fell to the ground and got pretty pissed, but I still say it's his fault.

And as for this review in Oz RS, as Ali said, this review doesn't even make sense. I mean, I can't follow what the heck he's trying to say. Like he's making up excuses to give them a low score.

Reviews have been really mixed. But I have yet to see anyone who said it was a truely bad album or anything. But I don't see how anyone could really say that (oh I forgot pitchfork but I don't think they count). But it really is totally a matter of what people like. I can't tell you how many times I've seen a record/movie get a really high rating and I think it's just awful. Like it's just hyped and that's all.

Ive spent a ridiculous amount of time going through reviews. The positive far outweigh the negative, importantly most larger publications have really liked it. The UK for example, NME, Q, SPIN, Observer etc all positive.

I'm just hoping he really DID say it, and it wasnt just them making it up as an excuse to make fun of him.

Great scans! this one here of them sitting in a feild? I was watching a Beatles video today on YouTube, and it almost shows the same exact scene. I wonder if they got the idea from that.

I think so, i cant remember now, but most likely, cause it was a later beatles video, as opposed to their early days.
