Craig Nicholls gives NME the inside story on his new album
The Vines' Craig Nicholls has spoken exclusively to NME about being diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome.



Despite the band looking on the verge of collapse when the singer first learnt he had the condition in 2004, they have since recorded their third album 'Vision Valley' which is set for release on April 4.

"I always had an inkling something wasn't right," Nicholls has revealed. "I just didn't know what it was. But I spoke to someone and it made a lot of sense as to why I'd feel a certain way about things and behave in a certain way."

The frontman is now receiving professional help and is taking
medication for the condition.

In our exclusive interview with The Vines, Nicholls talks about his treatment and how he has changed since the diagnosis.

Exclusive interview?

seeing as how they're only doing two UK interviews, yeah, that's pretty exclusive.

besides, this is one time i'm fine with NME hyping a story.

So really they were teasing us with the no publicity interview stuff for a while...and now that the album comes out in about a week they're loading it on us! *KEEP IT COMIN' *

they didn't say 'no' publicity, they said 'limited publicity pre-release. they're only doing a few interviews in each region and letting video footage pick up some of that slack. what works best for craig and all that.

but that's why everything we get means so much!!

It would technically be exclusive if the band did no other interviews but they have done interviews in Australia and the UK and another interview will be in SPIN. Exclusive? I think not.

And how dare they not put the Vines on the cover. Are they not cool enough for the NME anymore?

i'm aware of what exclusive means, but in this case - as i already said - compared to most bands who talk to any and every print and online source out there to hype their album, this counts as an exclusive. they've chosen a handful, and NME happens to be one of those few. good on NME, and better on paul moody for doing a piece that apparently does right by craig and the band. can't wait to read it for myself!

i was told the vines camp are fine with not being on the cover - they understand they're recovering from WD and much band drama, and want to sneak back onto the scene, so to speak, with the music doing most of their talking. the cover is going to the bands who recently played SXSW.

Sadly there aren't more influential music mags in England.

we don't get copies of nme until two weeks later either. but...better late than never, and if nme isn't sold in your area, you can buy back issues from the nme site or snag you one off ebay.

in the meantime, we'll have to enjoy the promised scans.
