Well i have been reading alot of articles lately, old and new, and i have been sortof confused as to how i am supposed to feel about Pat not on the album, i believe it said the bassist from You am I recorded on Vision Valley, and i also find it amazing that Hamish stayed with the band, no offence to Craig whatsoever but Hamish took the most abuse, a prime example being the David Lettermen performance of Get Free when Craig thrashes the drumset and Hamish looks extremely angry, so i geuss it just sortof surprised me that Patrick quit, what does everyone else think?

yeah true, i geuss ryan has sortof become a permanent member, i must admit youth group is pretty good too, does anyone know why Patrick got so upset at the show anyway, it said he got upset after the first song, but i havent seen a tape or anything

Yeah i really dont know how i feel. I never really go to know much about him. I guess it might not be the same without his playing since he is a good bass player. I read somewhere that Hamish rented drum sets because they got trashed so much so he couldn't have been to mad. He was probly mad at the preformace since in my own opinion it was legendary but not very good.

Patrick needed to go. Look at any WD interview and it was obvious he wasn't happy.

Hamish, Craig and Ryan are all good friends. I'm not surprised Hamish stood by Craig. Hamish is a really understanding guy and truly loves being in the band.

Pat is doing what he wants to do now and the Vines are moving on.

Yeah i know i didn't take it as a pissed off comment. Craig acted the way he did and everyone loved it. It was a remebered preformance and that is why they were invited back. Maybe Craig and Patrick just didn't get along. They seemed like band members and not friends. Also as always welcome to the forum im Tyler.

The way I see it, Patrick is happy with Youth Group; Craig, Ryan, and Hamish are happy with the Vines; I'm happy with Youth Group and the Vines, so everyone wins.

Yeah, I agree that it's best for both parties. I mean, I hope they're still somewhat friends cuz of the history and all...but I would've quit too if a fellow bandmate punched me during a gig. It's not only insulting cuz he punched him...but it's also demeaning because it was in front of all of their fans...but, we all know Craig wasn't well...so there's that to consider, also.

though I remain an avid supporter of the PAS I think the goodness of Andy Kent's presence outweighs the crappiness of Pat's absence

Indeed it does, I think that Andy did a fantastic job from what I've heard...so...let's just hope all goes well if they play any new gigs...wonder who'll play with 'em.

they said in that article in 'the australian' that andy kent would - probably depends on where and how busy he is with you am i at the time.

That's another thing. I suspect that there would be a very different sentiment about Patrick's departure among Vines fans if he had been replaced by a random session player. Since they recruited Andy Kent to play on the album instead of finding a permanent new bassist, it's viewed as Patrick's departure rather than Patrick's replacement.

altho i wouldn't begrudge them getting a new permanent bassist. patrick left of his own accord, so they're allowed.

but why get a permanent new bassist to split the money with when it's not like they're going to be touring or offering the new person much incentive to join? hamish and ryan have a history now with the band. andy kent has the luxury of playing with them and you am i as suits his schedule. they're smart to keep things more simple.

Yeah, cuz they're not millionaires...in that case it wouldn't be a biggie to split the cash. Lol, I hope they make enough to put out more records, thus never having to work for "the man" again! DAMN THE MAN!

There's loads of history between Patrick and Craig and it was obvious for a while that Patrick wasn't happy in the band. On top of all the other issues you just don't need that kind of tension between bandmates, so it's best he left.

And if you look at Youth Group pics it's obvious that Patrick is in a much better place outside the band, and now Craig has bandmates who support him, so it's all good.

Also, was there any explanation for the Andy K. pornstar look? Is there something he's like to share with the rest of the class?

I feel extreme dislike for him. he doesnt deserve to come back to the vines is my thoughts.. but really I know thats just because I'm me; *cough* biased, and really all those much more reason-ing-able people are right when they say he just didnt fit with the vines, and that he is better off and better suited to youth group -blah blah-, and it was for the best. but to me, him leaving = sad. blame = him.
actually though, I don't think much about it.
and I don't know if I like youth group or not..
