So, i read a lot of music magazines here from germany, I read about the new strokes album, upcoming placebo, radiohead album etc etc.

are the zines not be interested anymore in music from the Vines or what?

No word about the upcoming Vines album. thats a fact. Itīs not a bad thing for me, īcause I donīt like most hyped bands, so I have the Vines less or more for myself. biggrin.gif

Have you make the same experience in case of īVision Valley`?
Nirvita
Yeah you're right!
no word about the upcoming Vines album.

Here in Chile is the same...in the newspapers and magazines only appear about Placebo, Radiohead......! nothing about The Vines!

I'm going to called to all the radios and magazines of Chile!
The vines have to appear they're rock baby!!! cool.gif

I'm a real fan! i'm going to do it! biggrin.gif

gypseyrou2005

The album was talked about in both Rolling Stone and Spin in America.

i understand not wanting to overhype it or push craig, but i worry they're taking almost too much of a low-key approach. there have been no magazine ads yet, and i was in a couple of different record stores last night, and there were no posters or fliers advertising its release. most stores also have a board listing upcoming releases, and the vines weren't on any of those either. sad.gif

i understand it's not all about first week sales, but unless the album becomes a grower by word of mouth and/or positive reviews, i worry it'll disappear without anyone really knowing the vines put out a third album.

I think the management donīt want to hype the music cause Craig has a hard disease...thatīs all I think...umm, but nevermind:

I MUST HAVE THIS RECORD biggrin.gif
wonkytooth
understood, but they're also not touring in support of the album, so they need to find other ways to promote and let people know the vines are still alive and putting out music.

i'm a bit baffled why they haven't used hamish more...
Tinkerbell
Word of mouth is actually pretty good. On thelibertines.org they thought it was a great record - which is a very good sign I think. There have been quite a few threads asking for links to the songs, their myspace and whatnot.

That's where I hear about most new stuff first and if it goes over well there it usually goes over well everywhere.

Arctic Monkeys really got their "internet rise to stardom" from .org so good signs for our Vines...

I think this "garage rock" thing is allready "out" for people. itīs not bad, cause I donīt like this most crappy hyped bands like Maximo Park, Bloc Party blablabla bullshit.

The Vines are specially cause tehy exist since ī96...they make for a really long time music...

The Vines have sold out much records with Highly Evolved, Winning days was a flop. I think the people donīt be interested in this music anymore....they rather want to listen to crappy bands...

wonder if the playgirl pictorial is still on the table? tongue.gif

that's good to hear that the tight-asses at .org are pleased. wink.gif was it the rolling stone article that mentioned they were getting good reviews abroad? i haven't actually seen any reviews yet, but saying that in an article doesn't hurt. wink.gif

oh, i'm gonna post this here for people to share with others asking about the vines - it's a cool online ad ray made that features vines videos, songs, and links. pass it along!!

on an unrelated note, one of my friends sold back her arctic monkeys cd as she was unimpressed. i like it, but 4th greatest band ever? huh.gif yeah, nme, right. rolleyes.gif
bobbywalsh2008
i have also heard craig say in interviews that they arent going to advertise vision valley as much as the other albums, so only us true fans will buy it baby tongue.gif
wonkytooth
the reality is they need a few more than true fans to buy it if they want to keep recording music. they need new fans to come into the vinesfold. word of mouth will be very important, so do what you can from your little corner of the world. wink.gif

Yeah,I stopped into an FYE (it's a music store in case some of you guys didn't know) and their board had all the upcoming albums being released in April and they were lacking in Vineage so I told them about it. The girl didnt really seem to care, but I gave her a flyer to put up too. I don't think anything happened though. sad.gif Kinda sucks.

and Blender
though that was before the album title was publicly released
the_likely_lad
I guess the label would want around 600,000-700,000 copies of the album sold? I mean, the new Strokes cd hasn't done that well but it's unlikely they'll ever get dropped.

First off it's a disability, not a disease. You can't die from Autism/Aspergers. (Sorry if I sound like an ass.)

Second Craig says he's gotten a lot of help these past couple of years with his disability; so there may be little to worry about him going, um, wild over the hype. I'm sure he and the other bandmates are itchin' to get on the road again. Expect a summer tour in small/medium venues.

Everyone should keep in mind that it's not only the band's responsibility to promote themselves. The label is also responsible for promoting new releases, and in my opinion, Capitol should be doing a lot more for the Vines if they want the album to sell. That being said, I'm confident that a lot of people will buy the album, and if it doesn't sell as many copies as Capitol wants it wouldn't be the end of the world if the Vines signed to a smaller label after their deal with Capitol runs out. Even if they aren't being written up in a huge number of magazines or doing a lot of interviews, I'm finding that most articles are focusing on everything that happened in 2004, Patrick's departure, and Craig's diagnosis, with only brief mentions of the new album, which is a shame and probably one of the reasons why the band is doing so few interviews.

I think that one of the things that the Vines have going for them is that they have a lot of fans like us who are passionate about their music and who have stuck by them despite everything that's happened. I think the best thing we can do for them is just spread the word about the new album.

Sorry, I didn't mean to go on like that. Carry on.
