Full Version: Do you have a problem with VV's run time?
The Vines Message Board > The Vines > The Vines General Discussion

I just had to make this thread once i saw the track times in the recent "Dreamin' The Insane" mail out, i calculated them all and the run time ends up being 28 minutes and 49 seconds, which in my opinion is sorta too short, I mean no doubt in my mind it will be killer and no filler, but damn, it feels like it will be over as soon as it's begun, no songs to get lost in like on HE and WD.

What are your thoughts?

Didn't an article say 31 minutes?

"31 minutes and 27 seconds" according to the Observer interview.

I don't have a problem with it, as I have faith that the entire album will be fantastic and most albums put out these days have less than 31 minutes and 27 seconds of good music on them anyways.
wonkytooth
quality over quantity. simple enough. wink.gif
annie
wow crap....thats really short.
gypseyrou2005
Jen took the words right out of my mouth
Helter Skelter
yeah but dont you also want quantity with your quality? If you have a bite of something good and then its taken away....you sort of crave more dont you?

But maybe this album will be filling....

wow i really went on with that fucking metaphorical crap.
Tinkerbell
Supergrass's last record was just a tad over 30 minutes, and while I wanted more it doesn't make the record any less great. When it's done it's done.

^ supergrass. wub.gif

how long is an album supposed to be anyway? blink.gif that page was torn out of my 'rock n roll rulebook'... rolleyes.gif
gypseyrou2005
laugh.gif I see it as long as theres enough songs to make you smile.. your good.
LockedInAFreezer
I've got a repeat button, so I'm not complaining. biggrin.gif
marilyn_monroe
I would so much rather have it short then fliled with a bunch of worthless crap unsure.gif ...not that the vines would ever make any worthless crap of course laugh.gif . Sometimes it almost ruins an album when a band just chucks so many songs on there...and some are not that good according to lots of people? But of course all this is based on opinion.

And how people say "gross out" is too short...well I do kinda understand. But if they added a bunch of fluff to it to make it longer it would ruin the song and it would sound ridiculous. Know what I mean?

You also forgot to mention Supergrass' album was 9 songs whilst Vision Valley is 13. wink.gif

The repeat button can make it as long as you want..

it will be 31 fantastic minutes

YES, NO, DO DO, DO DO

Sorry. Erm. It's not a problem for me. VV will be a CD that belongs in the car, I can tell, considering that most of the places I drive to are within 30 minutes of my house. Minus work. That's 45 minutes.

yes it is really a tad short, i mean i expect an album to be about 40 minutes, but the vines now seem to be in the short, fast, sharp mode with fat riffs that come and rip your face off and leave you craving more, thats how i feel about gross out really. I do prefer short songs tho, anything more than 3 and a half minutes gets repetative if its a fast song, but i like the long slower songs like 1969 n sun child.
Rusty
Yes, I do.

The question that's been bothering me of late is, was Craig really incapable of producing some, let's say, ten extra minutes of quality music? blink.gif

(I've said something like this before somewhere, but I guess I just like bitching about the length thing mellow.gif )

The thing I find with short tunes is its hard to get bored of them, 31 mins of pure re-listenable tunage!!! yeh baby

I'm sure I wouldn't get bored with a 331-minute long Vines album with each song 27.5 mins long tongue.gif

But then, I'm a Vines maniac mellow.gif

I don't mind.

Long albums annoy me sometimes. I often think "this could be a much better album if they chopped off some of the weaker songs that drag it out".

'is this it' is only 30something minutes. and all the hives stuff is at that mark too.

i'd say the perfect album length is 40-50minutes. but really, if it's a good album i don't care.
Kid A
yep, its a bit on the short side
it better be good tho, or else
Feh
All the Hives CDs are 30 minutes or shorter (actually, I think the longest is 31 minutes, whereas the shortest is 27), and they are noticeably short, but sweet nonetheless. I like how short they are, I can listen to them over and over again without spending a ton of time (I usually listen to CDs twice in a row) on them.

So in other words, I'm glad its short.
Mattt
Short or long, I'm sure we can all agree that talking about it is a huge waste of time tongue.gif .
Having said that, any kind of album is a good album. Unless it involves gary busey...he creeps me out.
flemflames
Hmmm I think that's alright, border limit but alright. It will effin rock though!

And are you sure you aren't comparing to an "Opeth" album?
Some people will know what I'm talking about...

Long songs annoy me. ANything over 6 minutes is enough

I think it can be a good thing. How often the the later tracks on an album get sort of ignored on long albums?? If you listen to CDs in track order, you tend to end up listening to the beginning tracks more because you don't get round to the end ones. With VV, you'll always have time to hear it all through, and i think the all of the songs will get apreciated more and the recognition they deserve!

Honestly, if your attention span is that short for an album then you probably don't like the band that released the long album anyway. I think anyone who's digging an album will listen to it all the way through regardless of length cause they like the music, i only see people listening to the first couple of tracks the most if the later half of the album sucks.

However on a random note, according to Winamp after just buying the album, Vision Valley is acctually 31:28 so the first time i mentioned is wrong.

No no no, I didn't mean because of attention span, I mean because of circumstance i.e. you put it on in the car for a 15/20min journey, you here the first 4 or 5 songs maybe. And i wasn't talking about me personally, just experience of other people for expample my mum when she hoovers for like 15mins, or drives in the car. She only ever ends up listening to the first half of albums mostly. And my 2 friends were discussing how they seem to listen to the first 5 or 6 songs more. It was just a general observation I had.

I personally tend to listen to an album a couple of times in track order and then the rest of the time play it on shuffle, then no matter how long or little time I happen to have the album on, I always get to listen to different tracks.
