Full Version: The Vines Interviewed in NME
The Vines Message Board > The Vines > The Vines News
wonkytooth
Just a heads up that the NME flew a writer out to Sydney last week to spend time with the band and interview them. The piece is set to run the week 'Vision Valley' is released (April 5 issue date but available on March 28). This is the last UK press the band will do until after the record is out.

**when the actual article comes out, we'll do a new thread featuring it...ie. squealing over it. tongue.gif you UKers get those scanners warmed and ready. wink.gif
marilyn_monroe
YAY!!! I wonder how big it will be? Like a feature or something? That's cool though!

Also, you can get NME in the US, Australia, etc at Borders or Barnes and Noble (US) biggrin.gif

OMGYAY.

Finally I can go out and buy the NME knowing that it's worth it. And that will be the first time in about 7 months. rolleyes.gif
marilyn_monroe
Haha I know!

I just really don't want them to try to do a sensationalist piece. You never know what NME will say, but I bet management might be keeping a close eye on what is said. I hope so anyway.

How much would I die if they were on on the cover! ohmy.gif ohmy.gif ohmy.gif Just new pics would make me wild! I think this is when you know you've got a pathetic obsession wink.gif . Oh well rolleyes.gif
wonkytooth
if nme took the time to fly all the way there, you can count on new pics and a huge-ass feature. biggrin.gif

mgmt has been quite choosy about who to do press with, so i'd assume they're counting on nme to do right by the boys. a scary thing to 'count on the nme' but they are the biggest uk mag, so you have to play the game to a point. rolleyes.gif

and, yes, the nme does come out in the US at those places maddie so kindly listed - only in my city, it's two weeks after the street date. dry.gif
marilyn_monroe
laugh.gif two weeks late? Actually here it's nearly a week late I think. I'm not sure, but it's delayed a little. I didn't think of that wink.gif . Duh laugh.gif

Wow, yeah if they're flying there it must be huge!! Well you have to admit that the vines are an interesting story. I just hope they do it right mellow.gif

If it's a sucky article (it's NME so I'm guessing it will be a sucky article - Vines-related or not) this will DEFFO be the last time I'll bother to pick up the effin mag.
allie9609
Oh I can't wait to read it! They usually have large pics to go with their articles too so I really hope that there's some newies in there! ohmy.gif I hope nme give the guys a good wrap, I'm pretty sure they will though. Everything so far has been so positive! happy.gif Knowing NME, they'll go over the top - but as long as they're over the top in favour of The Vines... it's all good tongue.gif .

.... unless they do another article on The Vines wink.gif . Am I right? tongue.gif
Clelia
I only ever bought the NME 3 times.

But I can't wait for that. It better do the boys some good publicity, or I'll kick the NME's ass. tongue.gif
Feedums
I buy it every week.

...I should NOT be admitting those kinda things, should I?

Ooonly if there's pics, babe. wink.gif
Romny
I don't know if I'd wanna spend 4 or 5 bucks on a silly mag anyway (perhaps for the Vines - I'd sure save BIG $ to see them in concert, though) - especially when we'll probably be able to read the storey and see the articles pix here online. Cause you Ukers ARE gunna be good little sympathetic Vines fans and take pity on us American Vines fans who live out in the damn sticks nowhere near a big book/mag store and have yer scanners reved & ready, like wonkytooth said. . . . Right????

I've never bought an NME in my life! laugh.gif

You're not missing out on anything.

Except 84590868698 INCREDIBLY ace bands.
And witty sarcastic remarks.

...ok. I'm a closet NME-lover.
wonkytooth
well, i found out that paul moody - the writer who did 'the boy who fell to earth' piece - is the one doing this one. he's a vines supporter so it should be a great article! biggrin.gif
Brooklyn Girl
Hmm sounds arranged. "We'll only grant you an interview if Paul Moody does it. Oh and no nude shots." biggrin.gif
wonkytooth
they ain't dummies - if they're only granting a few interviews, go with the peeps who wrote nice pieces in the past. wink.gif

so i guess this means there'll be ice-skating in hell before kerrang gets an interview. laugh.gif
Brooklyn Girl
I'm curious how NME will review the album. Remember Winning Days?
wonkytooth
depends on which reviewer gets the CD - you don't get to pick your friends or sympathetic writers for that. mellow.gif

with nme it's all so subjective - they could hype it to the heavens or blast it to hell depending on the writer's mood/agenda. who knows. rolleyes.gif
Feedums
Paul Moody is doing the article? YAY! I was hoping he would. I love that man. Seriously, I do.
Brooklyn Girl
Yeah I know how NME operate but I have a good feeling about this album and I think the review will be very complimentary. smile.gif
wonkytooth
thing is...the album should stand on its own and the music should speak for itself.

nevermind that it's the vines and the drama with craig and that this is their third album and whatever other angle(s) a reviewer could take (save that for the article)...listen to the music and focus on that in the review.

and fee, i'm with you. l love me some paul moody. wub.gif
Brooklyn Girl
Of course the music should speak for itself but like you said it depends on the reviewer and whether or not he's a twat. Winning Days is a good album and yet they gave it a poor review. Bastards.
cherry blossom girl
does anyone have any idea how I could get the NME mag here in France please? huh.gif

major music and book stores should carry it.

if not, you can purchase off ebay and the nme site also sells back issues. smile.gif

where do you live? I lived in Angers and la Librairie Richer used to stock it! Have you tried the newsagents in Airports and train stations like Relay?
vine_mate
!!!

another thing to look forward to. tongue.gif

I can imagine the headline of the article being something shitty like 'the band everyone thought was dead' or summin stupid related to them being australian like 'they were once down under' or some crap like that. I don't think the nme will have a front cover of them tho cos the next issue out is the one of south by southwest and theres a free cd n thatll be on the cover i think but anyway, the vines will get a mention on the cover most definitely.
mary_jane83
that's cool, i think the NME likes the vines, it's true they always said good things about them (though i don't know all the reviews), i know that the vines was on their chart of best band or best song i don't remember !!

whatever the nme come up with, it can't possibly top rolling stone's 'the vines do asperger rock' for most asinine title. rolleyes.gif
clash4life
Thats the truth it was a pretty stupid article if you ask me. I can't wait to see this NME article since from what i've heird they really love the vines. I think that even though every article involves the almost break up of the vines, i still think it is good publicity. I know that some people on the forum would like the band to stay small so they could be kept in there back pocket. And some want them to succeed so they can make more albums. And some want them just to have a good album. I just wonder if this will help sales by always knowing that the band had troubles with craigs aspergers when it is written in articles 50 times. I am excited to see if the article is big or small.
wonkytooth
they flew the dude all the way out to sydney, and he spent two days with the band. i'm guessing the article will be a substantial size. it should come out this wednesday. smile.gif
gypseyrou2005
hopefully...
mary_jane83
I think that they can really have all the glory which they deserve but i still think it's not a band who makes music for sell it, it's rather a band who makes that because they like it. Me too i'm excited about the size of the article biggrin.gif
