Full Version: THE VINES IN ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE

Today I found out that The Vines are in the new Rolling Stone magazine (The one with Heath Ledger on the coverr) In a bigger article about new albums coming out this summer. Of course it was about Vision Valleys, which will have some competition on its opening day coming out the same week as Morrissey, Pink, Bubba Sparxxx, and The Flaming Lips. Now, this is the full little exert thingy. enjoy!

THE VINES
Vision Valley
out April 4th
Vines singer Craig Nicholls is back after being diagnosed with Aspergers syndrome (a mild form of autism) in November 2004. "I was working out how to deal with everything that had happened to me and to The Vines." says Nicholls. "And I'm sure that influenced the songs. I had alot of stuff in my head." The Austrailian quartet spent a year working on Vision Valley in Sydney, with its usual producer, Wayne Connolly. The result is thirteen cuts that splice together the garage-y punk of early Vines on tracks like "Anysound" and "Fuk Hey" with sunny, beatlesque pop ditties like "Candy Daze." Nicholls even throws in a twangy country ballad "take Me Back." And the title track sounds a lot like Oasis' "Wonderwall."

Thats the whole article, I know it's short, but I'm still happy it's here! I also noticed in the article they said Australian quartet, so does that mean they didn't hire anyone else to play bass. If not, who does play bass?

thats awesome! thanks for the notification.

I'd say that Rolling Stone got it mixed up, there's only 3 members at the moment. They didn't do the best research for that little article - calling 'Fuck Yeh', "Fuck Hey" laugh.gif rolleyes.gif .

it's so great to see them in the press again! biggrin.gif only...RS has got several factual errors. the vines are no longer a quartet (so, to answer your question, they still have no permanent bassist), it's 'fuk yeh,' and they refer to wayne connolly as their 'usual producer'...um, that would have been rob schnapf. rolleyes.gif thank god they switched that up!! i'm all for wayne becoming their 'usual producer.' wink.gif

but this...

Seriously? I really don't see the resemblance, but I suppose we haven't heard the entire song yet.

What do you mean haven't heard the entire song? Is there somewhere where I can hear a bit of the song?

Thats fantastic Winningdays1!

I went into 3 cd stores twice in the last 8 days and NONE of them know about a Vines 3rd album. I was beginning to think this was all a dream.

Nice to see their name getting out there again.

Ooh so it's not Vision Valley? I thought that was the one. Something about it made me think sunsets over a desert/outback type landscape.

i wondered about that 'wonderwall' reference too. instead of the melody, maybe they mean because 'vision valley' sounds kind of whimsical and sad...yet epic? huh.gif

Yeah that's true. Probably more a reference to the whole acoustic and strings vibe of both songs. When the cello kicks in after the first line or so in Wonderwall it does have the same low rumbliness as the beginning of Vision Valley. What is it at the beginning that makes it so rumbly? Is that the guitar or bass. I'm in love with it's sound wub.gif

I think the Wonderwall nod just made me shudder at first because it's a song that's become ruined for me by too many drunken bloke singalong renditions.

Vision Valley seems like it's got more soul.

You're welcome biggrin.gif , I'm also confused with the Wonderwall reference. The only thing that it has that is similar to Wonderwall is the mood of the song, which I don't think is enough to compare the two.

I totally bought the issue today, even though it's a teeny little article.

I was all excited and my mom was like "Oh, are they on the cover?" and I'm like "No....they're right....here!" pointing at the tiny little mention with all the mistakes and whatnot. She's like "You paid five bucks for THAT?!"

Yes...yes I did...

They'll be on the cover soon....just you wait....
