For discussion of the song, 'Take Me Back.'
Take Me Back [ 2:42 ]
There’s no point in doin’ what I’ve done
Lives are goddamned ruined like the runts
Take me back to the weather
Bend the tracks wish forever
Take me back for I go down there no more
Chew us up and spit us out again
Wavin’ bye and getting high on trends
Take me back to the weather
Bend the tracks and wish forever
Take me back for I go down there no more
Well the road is long
But I know I can survive
Been away so long
Anyway I saw what I could find

Hey, in that little rolling stone thing it said that this is the 'country ballad'

. I was wondering which one that would be. Of course it's not REALLY going to be like a country ballad, cause Craig's sense of a country ballad is anything acoustic
wonkytooth
Mar 14 2006, 02:00 PM
seeing as craig described 'futuretarded' as 'tribal' because of the clapping sticks, who knows what makes this a 'country' ballad - a sliding guitar? someone blowing in a moonshine bottle? lyrics about cheating, drinking, killing a man and taking a train out of town?
i just know i can't wait to hear it!!

I was able to hear this track and I don't think it sounds country but Craig called Ms. Jackson a country-rock song too so...

Yeah, Craig would call anything a country rock song

Well, anything acoustic I guess

. I think his definition of country is a bit fuzzed

Wait I take it all back. It does sound like country pop. I failed to pay attention to the twangy lead guitar but there is a pop sound to it as well.

'take me back' isn't the song that's been compared to 'wonderwall' - it's 'vision valley.' we've heard the acoustic version of it and that snippet on the track-by-track, so i'm guessing the comparison stems from the forlorn vocals and acoustic guitars and strings like you find on 'wonderwall.' journalists can't seem to describe a song unless they compare it to another - to compare 'vision valley' to 'wonderwall' seems like a stretch tho.

. Clippity-Clop twanginess from the start conjured up the image of a cowboy on horseback cantering across the desert! There's even a hint of a southern drawl in the way he says surrrviiiive!

I like it. From the lyrics I thought it was going to be a bit miserable, but it has a warm, positive feel to it without being too fuzzy.

i don't know that it'll be my favorite, since there's over half left to hear, but i expect it to be up there at the top. it grabbed me immediately, and i already think it's one of the better, more radio friendly songs they've done - even compared to previous albums.

Hmm I don't think the opening sounds much like Pavement's "Range Life" (which by the way is my favorite Pavement song by far

). I think "Take Me Back" is definately has more of a country feel. It's kinda like country pop (not real hardcore country

), I love it. I think it's great and shows how diverse their sound is which is just great

fee and i are in agreement that this is one of our favorites.

i don't get everyone going nuts about the country influence, because compared to the country crap i'm force-fed day in and day out in my part of the world, this is lightyears away from it.
i like how childlike, whimsical and bittersweet it is...the sentiments on it remind me of 'homesick.'
