Take Me Back [ 2:42 ]

There’s no point in doin’ what I’ve done
Lives are goddamned ruined like the runts

Take me back to the weather
Bend the tracks wish forever
Take me back for I go down there no more

Chew us up and spit us out again
Wavin’ bye and getting high on trends

Take me back to the weather
Bend the tracks and wish forever
Take me back for I go down there no more

Well the road is long
But I know I can survive
Been away so long
Anyway I saw what I could find
thevynes
take me with Craig!!!

Sorry... I am definitely not discussing of the song tongue.gif
marilyn_monroe
Hey, in that little rolling stone thing it said that this is the 'country ballad' ohmy.gif . I was wondering which one that would be. Of course it's not REALLY going to be like a country ballad, cause Craig's sense of a country ballad is anything acoustic tongue.gif
wonkytooth
seeing as craig described 'futuretarded' as 'tribal' because of the clapping sticks, who knows what makes this a 'country' ballad - a sliding guitar? someone blowing in a moonshine bottle? lyrics about cheating, drinking, killing a man and taking a train out of town? blink.gif

i just know i can't wait to hear it!! biggrin.gif
Brooklyn Girl
I was able to hear this track and I don't think it sounds country but Craig called Ms. Jackson a country-rock song too so... unsure.gif

Np and no banjos either. tongue.gif
Loridae
Darn. sad.gif

I love a bit of banjo/steel guitar twanginess. *goes to find Calexico cd's*
marilyn_monroe
Yeah, Craig would call anything a country rock song wacko.gif

Well, anything acoustic I guess laugh.gif . I think his definition of country is a bit fuzzed tongue.gif
Brooklyn Girl
Wait I take it all back. It does sound like country pop. I failed to pay attention to the twangy lead guitar but there is a pop sound to it as well.

Nothing like Wonderwall. Rollingstone should hire better journalists.

haha okay, but was it as good as wonderwall? because i love that song

'take me back' isn't the song that's been compared to 'wonderwall' - it's 'vision valley.' we've heard the acoustic version of it and that snippet on the track-by-track, so i'm guessing the comparison stems from the forlorn vocals and acoustic guitars and strings like you find on 'wonderwall.' journalists can't seem to describe a song unless they compare it to another - to compare 'vision valley' to 'wonderwall' seems like a stretch tho. mellow.gif
gypseyrou2005
ya.. they sound very little alike. ..journalists these days.. tongue.gif
Brooklyn Girl
It's kind of a grower in my opinion. Not my fave track on the album but I like it.

That was quite some oversight Linda wink.gif . Clippity-Clop twanginess from the start conjured up the image of a cowboy on horseback cantering across the desert! There's even a hint of a southern drawl in the way he says surrrviiiive! laugh.gif

I like it. From the lyrics I thought it was going to be a bit miserable, but it has a warm, positive feel to it without being too fuzzy.

I just listened to this song!!
Its very "easy listening"...and country-like with the guitar at the begininng. tongue.gif
Its pretty tho. smile.gif

I've changed my mind, I believe this is the best song on the album.

I know! I think I was too involved in trying to figure out the lyrics.

i love it too. wub.gif i don't know that it'll be my favorite, since there's over half left to hear, but i expect it to be up there at the top. it grabbed me immediately, and i already think it's one of the better, more radio friendly songs they've done - even compared to previous albums.

I agree, it's the first song they've ever done where there hasn't even been a hint of shit.
wonkytooth
no whiff at all. dry.gif

dan, you're so hard on our boys!! you wouldn't be at this forum were it not for the hard-on you had for the vines and all the hot honeys here. wink.gif

Haha, nah, I just love this forum. I love the people, well, most.
Loridae
This song, Vision Valley and Spaceship = wub.gif

I might even grow to love Take Me Back more than Vision Valley. It's strikingly different.

laugh.gif That made a little bit of my cup of tea go up my nose.
Feedums
I love the intro of this song. wub.gif

HOLY SHITE.

I was just listening to my Pavement collection and suddenly I realised how much the intro of 'Range Life' reminds me of 'Take Me Back'. blink.gif

Though of course it might just be me.

they were talking about vision valley when they said that, and vision valley has similar chords to wonderwall i believe
Endanger
this is a good song, for a country song...

I don't like it though, I think because I don't like country

What was Craig thinking
Feedums
There's nothing 'country' about it.

I think it's the opening notes. I see what you mean.
Feedums
Yeah, it is.

Well it's not a surprise, seeing as Craig likes Pavement. But ripping them off might be pushing it a little... unsure.gif
omgwtf
Nah, it's not ripping it off at all. For a split second, it sounds the same. That's it.
Endanger
it's definately a country song
SickleCell
Yeah, when I heard the beginning I kinda freaked out.
And I heard my sister go, "Uhh, thats the VINES?"
I was like..yes. yes it is. v_v

LOL!

Next joke..
Cigarettes and Song
awww man such a beauty. It like a reminising kind of song i absolutely adore Craig's voice changes from low to high.
marilyn_monroe
Hmm I don't think the opening sounds much like Pavement's "Range Life" (which by the way is my favorite Pavement song by far biggrin.gif ). I think "Take Me Back" is definately has more of a country feel. It's kinda like country pop (not real hardcore country laugh.gif ), I love it. I think it's great and shows how diverse their sound is which is just great biggrin.gif
green_scissors
I wan't sure whether i'd like this song or not but my God...it's bet's purdier and purdier everytime i listen to it. I'm in love with the "ooooooooos" and the twangy guitars.

Can this album get any better?!?!?! It's truely blowing me away.
wonkytooth
fee and i are in agreement that this is one of our favorites. wub.gif i don't get everyone going nuts about the country influence, because compared to the country crap i'm force-fed day in and day out in my part of the world, this is lightyears away from it.

i like how childlike, whimsical and bittersweet it is...the sentiments on it remind me of 'homesick.'
gypseyrou2005
I love the lyrics to it but I dont like the country-ness to it. that pretty much ruined it for me when I heard the intro
