If you are serious about contributing to this PLEASE take 20 minutes or so to read this entire thread so you can fully grasp how everything is going down

since so many of us are musicians here and a few people mentioned sending their covers of Vines songs to the band with The Vines Project I came up with the idea to make a Tribute album to the band with all of us on it

If you want to contribute reply in this thread with whatever songs you would like to cover
we should each do different songs

When you record yourself record each instrument on a different track and save each track as a .wav file then send it to me through email or through an online file sharing site like http://www.yousendit.com

I'll do a mixdown on each song and master the album using ProTools in a professional recording studio
I can also add drum tracks to your covers if you'd like

we can also discuss what we want to put in the liner notes and what we want to use as album art

If you don't have a way to use multitrack recording for your cover (as in if you're planning on just recording yourself singing with your guitar on a computer microphone, or something like that) you can still record the separate tracks by recording the guitar part first, converting the file to an MP3, burning it to a CD and using that as a cue mix to listen to on a portable CD player as you record your vocals. Thats also a way you can collaborate with other people if you can only play the guitar or only sing
we can figure that stuff out better as we go along

so whoever wants to contribute say so and claim your song/songs (if you've decided which you'd like to do yet) and I'll add you to the list

If we get enough people we'll do it

these are "suggested" deadlines, so don't freak out if you can't meet them as long as you can get your track to me within about 5 days after, but DO try to get them in before or on the deadline so this will go smoother. Those who are doing your own covers all by your lonesome try to get them to me by June 14th

Haha, my cello is at home . I played for 12 years but I don't play much anymore . I just can't have it with me many times and I actually haven't played in a year . I'm sure I would suck now anyway

they stripped the song of its energy and poignancy in the studio - it's too clean. that song works best with craig performing it live.

imitation being the sincerest form of flattery and all, this is an excellent idea and another avenue for people with such talent to thank the vines. lizzy, thanks for offering your expertise in the studio to help with this.

Oh I love this idea! I wish I could add something, but all I can do is play piano - if I sang I'd break the microphone I'm so out of tune . Haha, actually I just remembered that my brother was making this Vines thing for me (he doesn't like the band, but I begged and he agreed ). It's not really a cover, it's just some random Craig quote sound bytes set to techno music , I'm going home later on today so I'll have to nag him to finish it. Even if it doesn't go on the album it should be funny so I'll post it here . He did this really cool one with George Bush sayings a while ago, I'll put it up later tonight so you can see the type of thing it'll be . But yeah, dunno if it should be put on the cd .

That's a great idea. I can play flute, but I don't know where that'd fit with anything. Plus I don't know how I can get it recorded

my recording equipment sucks monkey balls... its an old X-26 multitrack recorder type deal that recordes to tapes.. which means that ill have to spend some time transpfing that to mp3 yippie...

Although all I do is play drums. I'm ONLY a backing singer for a reason... Maybe I should do a cover that consists only of drums and various percussion instruments.

some people might like you to lay some drums down for their covers

that would be noise

best way to not get noise is to keep the level of the mic down and sing/play loud

you also dont want many other electronics around it you know

make sure you doon't have any power cords running parallel to the cord of the mic if its an external mic

and keep any portable phones and cell phones away from it

you can get some nice I/O boxes too you know
they're fairly priced

I remember for a school field trip we went to florida and flew the school cellos in the checked baggage they came apart. My fingerboard fell right off . Yes, our orchestra teacher was real smart

This is a really good idea! I'm glad Lizzy thought of it. I definately want to be involved. I'd like to do Autumn Shade II, Homesick, or Give Up Give Out Give In (If it hasn't already been done too much) My recording equipment isn't very good though
