The Beatles - The definition of rock. Forever!
Black Sabbath - Never liked them...
Led Zeppelin - Legendary band!

But talking about 50's as well, there is nothing better than a tune of Chuck Berry once in a while!
Tinkerbell
Black Sabbath and Led Zepplin are more 70's bands, not 60's.

My point.
There is a whole debate on who is the first true "rock" band, Black Sabbath or Led Zeppelin. One of them was formed before than the other (1967) but the other got an album out earlier before the other (1968).
I forgot which is which.

so that makes them a 60's band?

it really shouldn't

I really like 60s music: Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, and all the other obvious names, plus a few I can't recall right now
Ms_Sunchild
then i guess black sabbath can be an 60s band!!!

The Kinks OMFG they rock that is all!!!
Vine ♠ Child

laugh.gif well not exactly...They're basically a 70's band. Technically they started in the late 60's, but that's about it.

Not To Touch The Earth

winning123days II
Yeah, I wish lived in the 60's.
the Velvet Underground, The Who, Beatles, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Soft Machine, Cream, all that good stuff.
omgwtf
The Kinks > the rest of the 60's bands.
Vine ♠ Child
I love the Kinks! smile.gif ...and alot of the british invasion.. cool.gif
winning123days II
Oh, yeah I forgot The Kinks! Damn, they are very good band.
Void
I love the Kinks. A lot of power chords, but that's how they go for it. Grunge rock. I love it.

The Beatles are pretty much damn awesome. Yup.

(To step ahead a couple years, Pink Floyd, Led Zepp, and some other names come up as great bands)
mary_jane83
the 60s was the best time for music ( that's my point of view of course ) but you know all the brand new bands are inspired by the old bands like the beatles, the kinks, the rolling stones ... look the vines before they played the kinks ! and you know know as well as me that craig loves the beatles ! seriously that was the best time for music but now with some bands like the vines it becomes one of the best time for music

couldnt be said better....the 60s were the best time for music..i mean it opened doors too many awesome bands ......like you said....truely thats what im looking for in a band..is the respect for the 60s
aUsI_cHiCk
i think 60's music, made music what it is today...
eg The Kinks song "all day and all night" people say that was the first heavy metal riff...
Ms_Sunchild
yes soo true.....and it made other decades of rock good too ...i mean look at the eighties....like soixsie and the banshees... tthey did a remake of the Prudence by the beatles.....WAY OF TOPIC but yeah

Every generation should be looking forward in time, not backwards....

Everyone's so caught up in nostalgia, an forgetting that they can never truly relive that time, that they're completely neglecting the fact that they haven't really defined their own generation yet. I swear, who now has the same artistic strageness, yet is as lovable as Jim Morrison? Where's our Jimi Hendrix? Who has the same political impact as Bob Dylan? Who's as active as Janis Joplin once was?

They're all too busy working the capitalist machine....

Yes, but the music of the 60's/70's....(for the most part)...was MUCH better then most of todays crap.
I only like a VERY small handfull of todays bands, while i like shit loads of bands from yesteryear.
That should tell you something, ehhhh??? thumbsup.gif

I do agree that we should have an appreciation for history, music-wise or other...

but, there's a fine line....and I think the majority of people are blindly crossing it

Probably cause for the most part, todays music sucks! Its all a throw-back to the 60's/70's. Most all the artists are influenced by that time period, and many bands/songs sound very yesteryear. Even the way they dress and their hairstyles are shades of the 60's/70's. Obviously those were the best years music-wise.
Mo_Papparani
Well, if we think that today's music sucks, people should change that by making better music....
Vine ♠ Child
Can't do it, if they aint got it in them. rolleyes.gif Very few REAL talanted musicians these days. mellow.gif
Mo_Papparani
therein lies the problem....

talent dry.gif
Vine ♠ Child
Exactly! VERY few has it!
Mo_Papparani
1) isn't technology great? rolleyes.gif

2) isn't it possible for great music to have an ugly face? I mean, admit it, we do have beauty standards along with music standards, now....they didn't back in the times you said were good in the 70s and especially in the 60s
Vine ♠ Child
You mean were they ugly back then?
Mo_Papparani

some were, yes.....

...like Jim Croce. Not very pretty, but his music was phenomenal, his lyrics, too...

Yeah, MOST were ugly back then. laugh.gif But that didnt matter. It's the music that counts. smile.gif
I mean, its nice when they can be good looking, but its not about that......

Pink Floyd arn't a 60's band though. I means, yes, they have a few albums in the 60s, but they only really made it big in he 70's.
