It depends on what kind of sound you want to produce. I'd reccommend fender for it's comfort

If youre only beginning then go for Fender.
Just personally I'd say Ibanez.

Well, I personally like the Fender Stratocaster, because it's really light, and it won't like, put eighty pounds on your shoulder. Not to mention, real easy to throw around, which is probably why Craig has one.
And also, they have good sound quality, so, I'd go with Fender...
Oh, and Telecasters are nice too.. slightly heavy, but nice.

telecasters are made to pull out thicker tones and a stratocaster is pretty standard, a bit more bright as far as tone goes. These are both good guitars whether you're a beginner or an expert. I don't know much about ibanez but I've had two. One of them was a piece of crap and the one I have in my possesion now is pretty nice. It's tone is almost equivalent to that of my old strat and it comes with a humbucker above the bridge pickup. the pickups it came with have higher outputs and pinches and shit are way easier. it's more suited for heavier or more distorted playing. There's different guitars for different kinds of sounds and music. The best thing to do is go to your local music shop and try different kinds out.

If you're getting a guitar, get an acoustic first.....
If you can't rock with an acoustic, then you can't rock at all.
That's the truth, son.

Oooh, you don't have to start with an acoustic... I never did, and I'm fine and rockable. *snort*

i should also point out that it depends on which model of the guitar you get.

I have both
it really depends on the sound you want
go to the store and mess around a bit on each
weigh them in your hands
practice some chords see how the neck feels to you
if you don't play yet ask someone there who knows how to play a bit on each

Alot of hard rock people use Ibanez. Lots of people use Fender, but they produce a more bluesier tone.

you need talent to truly rock.....you're using what the guitar can do as a crutch....
anyone can use the distortion sound, but it's what you do with it that counts, and you need more than just rhythm chords
You're supposed to rock, not the guitar.

I own an Ibanez but I have played both.
If its really beginner beginner, Id go for the Fender Stratocaster - for its grip and ease to play.
But if you are into heavier stuff (not necessarily metal) and are looking for resistance then go for the Ibanez.
What kind of music to you listen to and intend to play?

I have an Ibanez, which sounds really nice for intense rock stuff. I can just go friggin' crazy on it.
I've gotta say though, Gibsons are damn nice, especially SG's. Roughly $1000, but my friend has one, and it's so incredible, very light and throwable

, and it produces a nice sound.
It's really hard to say. I'd say to test a couple Ibanez and Gibsons out at a local guitar shop or something.
