I've made the mistake of eagerly waiting for an album(winning days) and than hearing it, and deciding it wasn't that good. Sure at first I loved it, I even said it was better than highly evolved, but thats just because it was fresh to me(though I did hear the demos and i must say most of them were so much better, and they had better songs).
All I'm asking is, if anyone else doesn't think this album is going to be very good. I just want the vines to make something better than highly evolved, because i think i'll have to stop thinking the vines are great if this album sucks.

hmmm well everyone has their own opinion. Im trying not to have any expectations for it just in case but my guess is that it will be incredible as others who have heard it have said.

Well, I don't know if it's gonna be better than highly evolved for me...cuz that's pretty much my #1 that I can listen to every song on that cd and just love it...but I mean, I am not expecting something with the same style and better...I'm expecting something different that maybe I'll like, maybe I won't. I don't think it's really a matter of being better as much as a matter of being quality stuff.

i'm not asking that the album is the same style, just better. I think a truly good band doesn't just have one good cd...

Yeah, I know what you mean. I think it'll probably be as good (hoping) cuz Craig took the time off and is probably just at home and comfortable to write some new songs and everything.

Lunastar1979
Mar 2 2006, 11:32 PM
Meh, I like it. I just think that on the whole album there needs to be a good mix of what they can do when it comes to style. But, as far as how the label has previewed it and talked about it...it seems like it'll be diverse. I'm looking forward to the soft, hard, and anything in between

Mar 2 2006, 11:41 PM
its what i've been reading about it that keeps me hopeful. I've heard sooooo many good things about the songs, i hope they grow as a band and start reaching new heights.

Yeah, they definitely have that potential to be one of the great bands that sticks around. They were part of that little "punk" or "garage" thing that came out in 2002...but I think, personally, there were at the top of most of those bands (if not all of them) when it comes to being talented and unique

They were lumped together with the white stripes.

thats what a think too, with the whole psychadelia thing and all. They were definately different from all those other ones. All of the "the" bands had bad second albums(including the vines, the white stripes are excluded because they started before everyone else) The storkes 3rd album was different so i respect that and do expect their 4th to be their best. But the vines....dont listen to the radio? i mean come one, gross out isn't that good either.

i didn't mean how many good songs it would have, i mean as an overall album, who knows, gross out and dont listen to the radio might go great on the album, but alone I dont care for them.

both HE and WD are great albums to me, but each has a couple of songs i'm not too fussed on. my point is it's hard to judge an album based on the few songs you've heard but haven't cared much for. hearing the album in its entirity as it's intended will be the true test.
me? i remain forever optimistic.

Mar 3 2006, 12:13 AM
eh, they just don't seem to be growing as a band. I personally dont respect bands that sound the same their whole career. Maybe the vines will turn out like the beatles:D
an album a year and just keep getting better, but thats doubtful

I dont think it will suck or anything but all I'm sayin is that it seems like it will be well...different.
The songs "Dont Listen..." and "Gross Out" seem so much different then all the other Vines songs, so its hard to compare and hard to predict what the new album will be like. I just hope it will rock. Different or not.

I think Vision Vally is going to be kinda different. Well, actually maybe not that different because of the psychadelic music and the ballad-style song(s). I think I definately will like it because I love the 3 songs I've heard...and I love "Going Gone" and the psychadelic songs sound cool. But of course not everyone can like everything. One of the things that really draws me to the vines is that they do such a range of styles and pull them all off so well. I think I even liked Winning Days ever so slightly more than Highly Evolved. I agree with Linda about it being the most under-rated album ever
Anyway, I really can't wait!

i think their third album will be great. i dont like "dont listen to the radio" at first...but now...i love it!

and gross out...fantastic...

i just love its simple and powerful...and that is why i love their songs. but still i like songs like 1969 and i think spaceship might be like 1969s style i am very looking forward for it.
p.s. i personally like highly evolved more than winning days but theres still many fans like winning days more.we cant say that its not as good as highly evolved because it didnt sell as much as highly evolved.

Radio seemed too light, and Gross out, while good, was too short for mainstream attention I think. It almost seems like Craig may have gotten caught up in his own hubris that he's almost trying to be different than the mainstream to a degree that he makes an album of conceit. I dunno, just my opinion, but of course I'll reserve actual judgement 'til the 4th(which is also my b'day; Great present).

I think this record has a much, much better chance of being really good the Winning Days did - recorded at home, with a producer whos work I really like, annd no pressure to sell 10 billion copies on the first day. DLTTR is a decent song, not my favorute thing ever but certainly not bad. And regardless of length (Hah!) Gross Out is great.
wonkytooth
Mar 3 2006, 05:53 PM
considering the pressure that's on them, they certainly recorded it under the best of circumstances given they were able to stay in sydney and work with a producer they've worked with in the past and really seem to like.
there's no accounting for what the public or critics take to, but i respect the band for making the album they apparently wanted to make instead of churning out something to appease a record company/mainstream public. 74 seconds of 'gross out' proves craig is doing his thing - and still doing it well.

I didn't see a whole lot wrong with WD except for it got kind of boring at times. HE was much better though. This album should be better than the last one though, I think the names of the songs will reflect the music on them. Anyway, let's just hope..

The vines dont fit in that catagory. To me they have more of a "cult" following, as opposed to mainstream bands.

Yeah, if you judge mainstream by how well known they are, I know only about 4 who have heard of the vines. I once asked a large group (my entire english class actually, heheh) and 2 said they listen to them.. anyways I loved highly evolved and winning days nearly equally, and you cant say that if WD wasnt as good then VV must be worse, its only their 3rd album for gods sake.. get what I mean?. & of course everyone will have their own opinion on it. seems like its getting mixed reviews already.
