What is the general opinion/impression of The Vines in Australia?

i'm talking about how Australian fans see the Vines? and the ways in which the Australian media portray the Vines?

Are the Vines huge in Australia???

i'm from the UK so obviously when they first came on the scene, the hype was incredible (which I personally think is a bad thing - too much hype can create big problems for bands...I guess we have the NME to thank for that!)

it's just good i think to get a different perspective sometimes!

And, I don't know. I think the fan base in Australia is about the same as it is anywhere, as of now... Not sure. I'm American, so, this is just a guess.

Most people in Australia know of the vines but i dont think many are that interested they were pretty big at one stage i remember, on video hits and the radio and shit. but then they trashed the Triple M garage gig and their music is banned from triple M and 2day FM. thats at least what i heard. but yeh since then i never really saw them on tv or heard them on radio. but fuckin arround with a radio station is fucking awesome! the vines are fucking awesome cunts.

Yeah Vines have been pretty much sunk by the media here, still bump into the occasional fan while strutting my tshirts around though. They were big to begin with but it all come to a grinding halt. I do my best to promote them in any way i can though

And this is why I listen to Nova 96.9 FM. But yes. As soon as the DLTTR comes out around here. I'm harassing Kyle and Jackie O to play it and Triple M. It's been like what... since a few years since The Vines trashed the studio, just because the studio got trashed, doesn't mean you have to ban them. Immature frinks. But yes, I only know a few handful that know The Vines, people nowadays are like "Who is that? Are they American?". Which really buggers me. BETTER than the idol stuff getting spun around these days. I think i'll give my paint bag a job to promote them.

you're telling me you wouldn't ban them if they trashed the shit out of your studio? I mean, I'm a strong supporter of The Vines, but you've got to be realistic.

I know about 4 Vines fans. in total. Everyone else thinks they are "gay" I dont know where they get their sources... Maybe someone has seen the boys walking down the street....

Yeah, I didn't know about them being banned from 104.1 either - what happened? Haha, although I know it doesn't take much to get banned from that station - I remember when Frenzal Rhomb were banned (not that 104.1 ever played them anyway ), when the lead singer started insulting Jacki-o (and annoncer on the station) on stage when she was late coming up and the crowd were getting impatient. I mean, she was late, the crowd were getting restless, he was just entertaining them. Take a joke .
I just think it's so stupid how radio stations ban bands because of their behaviour. I mean, I see why the owners of stations might be a bit peeved if a band damaged their studio, but does that mean they should ban them? Radio stations are there to play music, they aren't there to enforce polite public behaviour. Are they going to ban every band who has behaved badly at some point? Are they gonna ban Coldplay because Chris Martin smashed a journalists car windscreen when he was in Byron Bay? Are they going to ban The White Stripes because Jack White punched some guy from the Von Blondies in the face? Bands aren't there to be pillars of moral society, they're there to make music.

after watching that podcast I feel well sorry for craig, he proper messed himself up with weed, u can say its AS but I know someone with canabis psychosis and hes exactly like craig, I mean he was once well lively and now hes just quiet.
They will get big again craigs off the weed and you do make some progress back I just hope he jumps around on stage like he used to if they ever do any more live shows.

Craig is making big improvements as far as that. He quit smoking weed 9 months ago and is eating better, etc. And the way he acted in that interview is the AS. The lack of eye contact and stuff is completely a characteristic of AS and he's always had trouble with that. I don't think he's messed himself up, I think the opposite.

By the way, the last 2 years had to have been really rough for Craig. That may be why he doesn't seem to be acting all goofy right now, I don't know...

yeh I guess its just a waiting game, i have no doubt he will improve, its just sad you know cause they have had to start again so to speak.

Yep, he did it when he was up there doing Splendour in the Grass and some stupid photographer was taking pictures of him on the beach - I don't think Chris liked that very much .

From what i was told, The Vines made some history and often had Australia behind their name in the press. This being said, I believe their name is more known than their music in the land down under.

Uh huh, I just moved into a house with 3 other people who go to the same uni as me and all of them had heard of The Vines, but none could name a song. One of them even thought that The Vines were The Strokes . I've set them all straight - you can't live in a house with me and not become thoroughly educated on all things Vines .
I've even got one of my housemates to put up a Vines poster in her room . Now... to work on the other two .

Triple J is into the vines which is good. They are the biggest rock station i'd say.

Its funny how Kyle was all like.. "you will never be played on this station again" hahah and Jay was like.....we are pretty much radio-proof anyway so it doesnt matter and kyle said... i doubt your music is radio proof or something
