QUOTE(Aesthetic_Prince @ Jan 17 2006, 12:41 AM)
I've never been to India, but I'd like to go someday.  I'm very mixed up.  I've got bits of African, Irish, Scottish, and Native American in me too.  But, they're just little bits.

I've probably got a little Spanish in me. Seeing that the Spanish mixed in with the Tribal Mexican people. That part of my family were very intent on only marrying other Tribal Mexican people for centuries. I'm still sure some Spanish got in one way or another though. laugh.gif

It's supossed to be set in Japan right? well you don't go to Japan and everyone speaks english right? it just doesn't have the same feeling to it.

It's made for a Western audience, though; they clearly want it to be a 'blockbuster', so they've put it in English. I don't think even half as many people would see it if it were in Japanese. More to the point, the book is in English and was written by someone whose first language is English, so the film wouldn't be too representative of the text if it were in Japanese.

I know that people have issues with Memoirs like its in English and its supposed to be set in Japan but the actors are Chinese... Taking those into consideration I still consider it one of my favourite movies of all time. Its a movie, not a documentary, the purpose is to convey a story to the audience.

I think the direction is brilliant. The cinematography is fantastic, costumes, story line, characters. I love the characters smile.gif

A while after I watched the movie I read the book. I found it to be quite a slow read but still good. It explains a lot that the movie doesn't. For example I thought the water in her eyes was referring to her crying, ahem (a bit embarrassing), but no it goes on to explain about elements and horoscopes and things.
