alright everyone!

The other moderators and I have been chatting a bit lately and believe the best way to put all of our fanaticism to good use, especially with the release of the guys' new album approaching, is PROMOTION

so here's the deal

the other mods and I are hosting a promotion competition
yes a competition, that means there will be winners
and the winners will receive prizes

we aren't totally sure exactly WHAT the prizes will be yet but they will be Vines related and they won't be crap

we will have one overall winner and runners up
the number of runners up depend on how many prizes we end up attaining


so here are the rules:
1) The competition will be based on earning points. The member who receives the most points will be the winner. Those with the next several highest point totals will be the runners up.

2) You can earn points by doing anything in the list following these rules. NEW PROMOTIONAL OPPORTUNITIES WILL BE ADDED TO THE LIST AS THE COMPETITION PROGRESSES SO MAKE SURE YOU KEEP CHECKING BACK!

3) You can also earn points if you do something to promote The Vines that isn't on the list and you can prove that you did it OR if what you did is something original and sensible for other people to do. If you do something thats not on the list and you know won't earn you any points still post it so we can give you a high five, pat on the back, or whatnot.

4) You must follow the directions for whichever promotional oppurtunity on the list you decide to do for you to get points. There will be things on the list that you can only do if you have a way to get pictures of it, or record it. There are other things you can do, online promotion mainly, that you can simply link us to for proof.

5) If there is anything on the list you would like to do but don't have the suggested means of posting proof that you did it, reply in the thread with your problem and the mods or any member who would like, will help you come up with a similar alternative.

6) In order to receive prizes you'll need to give me a mailing address at the end of the competition. If you would rather not do that or can't you can still compete, you just won't receive a prize if you win or are one of the runners up. If the winner or any runner up of the competition does not wish to receive a prize we'll make them a nice banner to post wherever they'd wish to.

7) This is supposed to be fun AND a group effort, so even though you are competing please help everyone else out and try not to get into any rows over anything.

8) If you did something and did not receive points for it by all means contact me through PM's and I'll fix it.

9) Do not hand out copyrighted material (like mp3s or mp3 CDs) that you do not have permission to give out or that isn't paid for. That's copyright infringment and its illegal.

Online Promotion:
Write a positive review of The Vines, a Vines Album, or a Vines song on an entertainment, music, lifestyle, or any other website that allows registered users to post music reviews. Post the link of your review in this thread. (10 points)

Plug The Vines in your personal online blog/journal/myspace. Post the link of that journal entry in this thread. (5 point, one time per month per member)

Plug The Vines in an online community, either a blog/journal community, a website like myspace, or another forum. Post the link of that entry or post in this thread. (10 points for each unique community you plugged the band in)

*new* Put something in your online profiles/sigs that subliminally get people to notice the vines. For example this could be in my AIM info:

*new* Reccommend The Vines to someone online either in an instant message conversation, email, Private Message (on a non-vines related website), or in the comments of a blog or journal entry. Get a screen capture of you doing so and post it here. It would be a good idea to put the picture in a photoeditor and black out part of the other person's username to protect their privacy (not all of it though so we know you're not just talking to yourself ) (40 points per picture per person you do this to) - submitted by cherry blossom girl

Request a Vines song on a radio station's or a music television channel's website. get a screen shot of your request and post it here (30 points per request per website)

Give a Vines album, song, video, or the band in general the highest rating possible on a website that lets you rate such things. Get a screen shot of your rating and post it here. (20 points per rating)

Offline/Street promotion:
Be a walking (or driving) billboard!:
Take a picture of yourself wearing a vines T shirt in a mall, school, store, concert venue or any other public place with alot of people. The band logo must be in full view, so no jackets, scarves or anything else covering it. Post the picture here. (5 points for every unique place you take a picture of you wearing the shirt)

Make your own Vines T-shirt with some kind of corny promotional phrase like "THE VINES ARE GOOD BUY THEIR ALBUMS". The phrase must cover almost the entirety of the front or back of the shirt OR be huge enough for alot of people to see. Take a picture of you wearing the shirt in a mall, school, store, concert venue, or any other public place with alot of people. Post the picture here 8 points for every unique place you take a picture of you wearing the shirt)

put ALOT of Vines buttons on a bag or jacket, "Vine-ize" a pair of shoes, pants, or jacket. Or do anything of the like that people will notice. Take a picture of you at a public place with alot of people and post it here. (5 points for every unique place you take a picture) - partially submitted by Ihatemusic

Put a Vines decal or sticker on your car, and take a picture of it. (5 points for each unique sticker or decal, or for each car you've put a sticker on as long as you own it or got permission to put a sticker on it)

Play The Vines RREEEAAALLLYYYYYY loud in your car while you're driving and stick a sign in the window saying "I'm listening to The Vines!!! Good isn't it?!?" Take a picture of the sign on your car. You don't need to record yourself actually playing the music...we'll just take your word for it. 20 points, one time only) - submitted by green scissors

Other:
Recruit any Vines fan you know or come across to join the forum and participate in this competition. It doesn't matter if you know the person online or offline, as long as they make a post in this thread mentioning you recruited them and earn at least 30 points, so let them know your username. (50 points for every person you recruit once they earn at least 30 points in the competition)

Request a Vines song on the radio and get yourself on air doing so. Record it either using a computer microphone or by any other means you possess that would allow you to post the sound clip online. Post the clip of you on the radio in this thread. (80 points for every unique radio request posted)

Convince a record store to promote a Vines album as a "pick of the week, month, or day" or any equivelant. Take a picture of the album being promoted in the store. Different stores do different things, like keep a few CDs near the register near a sign or put a little sign in the Vines section of the store promoting the album. (100 points for every picture of a store promoting a Vines album)

Do it yourself record store promotion - make a little sign out of a thin sturdy material the same size only taller than the CD dividers record stores use to separate CD's from one artist to another. Write some corny promotional phrase on the top of it like "THE VINES ARE GOOD BUY THEIR ALBUMS", and stick it right behind the vines divider that says "The Vines" on it, or right behind The Vines CDs in the "V" section if they don't have a section of their own. Take a picture of your handywork and post it here. (75 points for every picture at a unique store)

Instead of putting bits of card in The Vines bit, put some (the same size as a CD this time, that people will discover when they flick through the CDs) that say "DON'T BUY THIS....GET YOURSELF A CD BY THE VINES!!!" infront of CDs by bands that you think fans of would also like The Vines. Take a picture of your handywork and post it here. (40 points for every picture. up to 3 per unique store.) - submitted by green_scissors

Come up with an original AND sensible promotion idea for members of the forum to do. Post any ideas in this thread. (5 points for every idea)

Suggest a change or addition to a promotional idea already posted by another member. (2 points)

Write a review of The Vines, a Vines album, or a Vines song for a school or local newspaper or magazine and get it published. Take a picture of, or scan the printed article and post it here. (200 points for each picture of a review posted)

If you read a negative article or mention of The Vines in a national magazine or newspaper write a letter to the editor disagreeing with what they wrote. Vice versa too, if you see a positive mention of the band write a letter to the editor praising the publication. Many publications accept both snail mail and email for letters to the editor. Get it published, take a picture of, or scan the printed letter and post it here. (300 points for each picture of a printed letter posted)

Go to any television show where they also camera shoot the audience members outside (like the Today Show, Good Morning America, The Insider, not sure if TRL still does it) and wear a Vines t-shirt and/or hold up a Vines sign. Try to do it in a group. Let the moderators know when you plan to do this one so at least one of us can catch you at it. (400 points for each time you get televised) - submitted by Brooklyn Girl

Help answer another member's question about the competition or help another member come up with a similar alternative to a listed promotional opportunity. (5 points each time you help out)

If you're in a band, incorperate a Vines song into your set at one of your gigs and give them some hype "this next song is a cover of a song by The Vines. If you haven't checked them out yet i seriously recommend you do as soon as you get home! You won't regret it!! This is TV Pro.......*proceed to rock out!*". Get a video of it and post it here. (75 points per video taken at a unique gig) - submitted by green_scissors

If you're in a band wear a Vines t-shirt while you're doing the gig. Or if you know someone in a band, try and get them to do it...even if you have to pay them, lol. or instead of incorporating the vines into your school work, get your teacher to incorporate them into the lesson! get a picture of your teacher doing it, a voice clip of them talking about the vines or a picture of the work they've set out.... Make your own flyers announcing The Vines new album and distribute them in public places. tuck them into newspapers at newstands, pin them up on poles in the city, tuck them behind CD's or in between books in stores, etc. etc. take pictures of your handywork and post them here. Wouldn't it be better if the ideas were presented to management prior to the album's release so they can actually incorporate any useful ideas to promote the album?

there are actually two competitions running - one where you promote the band as a fan, and one where you promote the band as if you were their management. go here for that one. that one ends in january so start getting creative!

I really don't think that will be much of a problem. We're all fans and I don't anticipate this getting vicious . As lizzy said, the first person to post it...and alterations can get a point or two.

Actually now I have two ideas -- one for each thread.

The idea I have for the fans, I can pitch it but I don't want to do it. Will the idea earn me points even if I don't do it? In other words, do I get credit just for the idea?

I've just thought of an idea for a cheesey slogan for my t-shirt and whatnot...well, it's more cruel than cheesey... ...but if it get's people to buy Vines CDs *shrugs*

Sometimes the signs are not even necessary. If a group all wear similar Vines clothing, sometimes someone like Al Roker of the Today Show will scope them out and get them on camera.

Do you mean write a review of the new album? I don't think you do but DTI already has a Vines database where people can sign up and write reviews of the Vines releases including demos.

Like I have a ton of vines buttons and stickers on my school stuff, and people have aproached me asking about them because they see them. Could I take a picture of that for points? =/

Someone in the other thread mentioned subliminal messages in the form of things in your sigs on other forums and blogs.

You all know i love doing my graphics so if you come up with a variety of slogans and a size for a graphic, I'd be more than happy to make a selection of graphics in different colours for people to choose from to put in their sigs/blogs/myspaces.
