Because the greatest punk band ever (in my opinion, so that means don't argue, idiots) deserves a thread of its own.
This is a band I grew up with. Started listening to them when I was like five and have loved them ever since. They're still one of my favorite bands of all time, and my definitive #1 fave punk band. I love the songs 'Red Hot Moon', 'You Don't Care Nothin'', 'Memphis' and 'Bloodclot' very much, and my favorite album is 'Life Won't Wait'.
So, what are your opinions on them?

damn Rancid are awesome
i have the whole greatest hits album yes sireee

they're not the greatest punk band ever - that title is reserved for the clash, in my estimation

- but rancid are definitely one of the best. fee, i actually did an old school rancid zine called 'idle hands' back in the late 90s - even got to meet the band and interview lars because they liked it so much (not that they're that inaccessible, but it was cool for me

). if i can find some copies still lying around, i'll send them to you with your christmas card.
'and out come the wolves...' is my favorite of theirs, as well as one of my favorite albums of all times. i can listen to it from start to finish without wanting to skip a track. because of the variety of styles on it, you never get bored with the music. 'life won't wait' is probably my second favorite followed closely by 'let's go.' i've been lucky enough to see them live several times, and they're an amazing live band - full of energy and passion.
i do think rancid is an unfortunate name for them. it's lame and sells them short by making them sound like any other of the millions of punk bands who tried to be black flag and failed. that's not their sound. operation ivy was such a cool name for tim's first punk/ska band, i wish he'd come up with something equally as cool for...rancid.

Rancid are a horrid band. They're really bad and they certainly aren't the best punk band of all time. I would say that The Sonics were the best punk band of all time.

I don't really love Punk, but Rancid are amazing really.

I would agree but, I don't class The Division as "punk". They're actually one of the co-founders of "Gothic" rock. Joy Division for me are easily the best thing to ever come out of music.

How do you define punk then.
I can go on and say they are.
People would say Punk is an attitude and not music. An attitude towards your own music, not wearing ripped clothes or playing fast riffs.
