Hey, I was just wondering on wether or not any of you are going to download the 3rd album before it's released, if it gets somehow leaked (lets hope it doesn't!)

PS. This is my first attempt at making a poll, so I don't know if it will work.

that said, i hope it never leaks and becomes an issue, because when it comes to the vines, i have the willpower of an alcoholic trapped in a liquor store. i'll try to be strong and wait. i'll definitely be buying multiple copies for home, car, and work.

I don't think that it will be very hard for me to resist downloading songs before the album is released

lucky you...im not sure i will ever have an ability to hold any vines album in my hands... just a small chance to have a piratic(do u call it this?) copy, but these money wont come to where they should ...so no difference.

If you can't buy it in Russia, you could order it from the net and have it delivered to you. www.amazon.com delivers to Russia, so just order it off that then you can have a proper version of the album and support the band .

I dunno if I'll download leaked songs yet. I could sit here and say that there's not a chance, and that I'll be strong and wait till the album is out - but when it comes to The Vines I am a weak, weak person . Whether I give in to temptation and download the album early (if it's available - hopefully it doesn't leak and people don't have a choice but to wait), or wait till the official release date to buy the cd - I'll still end up buying multiple copies of the album .

so you haven't been able to purchase any vines albums? i understand about availability - or lack thereof where you live - so you should consider doing what allie suggested and try ordering through amazon. i've no idea what the import price would be, but as big a fan as you are, it's worth investigating.

well i think i cant, i even cant download mp3 which are not for free: i dont have a mastercard or smth, i even dont have i-net at home! so now u know, what russian scientists do during their working time

i think ill ask a friend to send it. btw, it costs about 20 bucks there, right? here we buy CDs for $3.20 if we do at all...

that may be your best option then - have an overseas friend buy the album at a normal price, and you pay for that and cover the postage. you have several overseas friends on here.

of course i dont though we have the stripes albums, the strokes and even the libertines in stores. it took about 2 years for our pirates to understand that we do need this kind of music!!
in 2001-2002 i could only read russian NME about all these cool guys - without listening to them! but i realized that Craiggy is cool&hot only after listening to the vines this summer - thats good , i think.

Definitely buying the album as soon as it comes out. Hopefully I won't download anything but if it has been leaked i probably couldn't restrain myself downloading one or two songs because if it's out there i'll be too curious not to listen to it. Hopefully it wont be leaked and even if it is i hope i'll have enough self control not to download it but i said that about the new strokes stuff and i have most of them i just dont have any patience when it comes to the music i love. i want it in my ears ASAP

I wouldn't download the album even if it was allowed to leak onto this forum or anywehere else I can find it. I've said this before and I'll say it again. The whole point of a new album coming out from one of your favourite bands is the utter excitement you feel from long-awaiting it and then finally, the day it comes out, you go the music store, buy the album and listen to the actual CD and the songs are all shiny and brand new. It's like a high for me. It's a drug in itself. And it's the best part. Of course, there is always the temptation of downloading the leaks, but I manage to hold myself back. I've done it for Franz Ferdinand, I'm doing it for The Strokes and I'm going to do it for The Vines.

Although it ain't leaked yet, so who knows, maybe they can keep it under wraps until it's done.

Although here's a thought: once they figure out which songs are gonna be on the record, maybe they could give one of the ones that didn't make the cut to the fans as a thankyou for sticking with them through thick and thin, and as a teaser for the new record? Releasing songs over the internet for free isn't always a bad thing - it sure didn't do the Arctic Monkeys any harm (their first single shot straight to number 1 in the UK charts).

we hope to have a whole section just for the new album - each song will get its own thread there for discussion. should the nme or other press articles describe each song (much like craig and patrick did with a few publications before the release of WD), members can post those official press descriptions there. whether people choose to go there and read those write-ups beforehand is up to them.

should the album leak, we'll probably have a single thread for people who download early to discuss the album. no discussion about it will be allowed outside that thread. that way, people who don't want to know - won't have to know. this is not etched in stone, but it's an idea anyway. a white stripes forum c and i post at did this for their last album, and it worked really well.

regardless of whether or not it leaks, a system will be established and in place for the new album with guidelines made clear to all forum members. we've already done this in regard to the posting of early leaks, so we'll do the same for discussion of the new album. if it doesn't leak, it won't become an issue but at least we'll be prepared.

and i hear ya, tinks, about using the internet to promote your band. artists like weezer, beck and ryan adams streamed their albums on myspace and/or on their official sites a week before their album's release. bands are also making a single or two available early for purchase on iTunes (that's .99 a pop here in the states). the internet doesn't have to be the 'big bad' - bands need to find creative ways to work the net to their advantage.

I think its a dangerous move

Yeah if major publications discuss the album prior to its release I think that's fine to post them but I think it would be in poor taste and hyprocritical for members to discuss the tracks if they've downloaded them. This forum isn't promoting downloading so that would give a mixed message if a member (especially a mod) posts about it because they've listened to the tracks prior to its release. Just my opinion.

not everyone who hears the songs early will have necessarily downloaded them illegally. people get advanced copies of records, much as jp did, and there were one or two .netters who had radio promos. the vines played live shows a month before WD was released - people heard new songs that way too. they may very well play a show or two in sydney before its released.

should it leak, there will be people who will download the songs, and i'd rather see us have a plan in place - like a early discussion thread - for them to post comments, than risk remarks being put all over the board. when mods see those comments, we can move them to the appropriate thread.

it's not about sending a mixed message, it's about being prepared.

I know people get advanced copies (I was involved in that because we did it for a review section in DTI, not to discuss on the site).

And I agree people will download (there's no controlling that) and yeah it's a good idea to have those posts in one thread (with a spoiler warning). I think one of the biggest complaints that happened last time on .net was that the actual mods were discussing the tracks and sharing the leak links and The Vines were not happy especially since they were moderators. That's not BS, that was an actual complaint.

the mods here are well aware of that which is why we're going to so much trouble to work this out well in advance of the album's release - trust us to do our jobs. we love the band and want to protect them as much, if not more, than anyone.

Working titles include "Nothing's Coming", "Any Sound" and "Take Me Back".

I'm NOT going to download the album. No bloody way. I remember how bad I felt about doing that with Franz Ferdinand, and they're not even one of my favorite bands. So that's a 'no-no'.

Its best to buy the album instead of downloading the entire disc. to me its not as meaningful to just download it. I know it is worth the money to pay for it, and thats final.

For ONCE...dial-up has a perk!! I can't actually be arsed to wait for songs to download on dial-up...so I should be able to make it 'til release date. I shall, however, pre-order the vinyl before the release date.

i'm all about the vinyl too! the needle on my record player died a few years back, so i don't actually play vinyl records anymore, but i like to frame them as artwork for my place. *clears spot alongside HE and WD for album #3*

My record player has no proper volume anymore, so i don't play them very often anymore, just collect the vinyls of my favourite bands so that when i do get my own place they shall be framed as artwork too!!! That is my master plan!!
