OK, so I voted after all (The Vines!)
I love Rishikesh, but this Beatle connection kinda spoils it for me

I've been thinking...
IF The Vines were called The Kooks or Butthole Surfers...what would MY username have to be?
Kooky?
Butty?
Surfy?

I'd love you even more if your username was Butty.

Anyway.
In theory, the name shouldn't matter. But woudn't it be horrible if they were called, for example...Bowling For Soup or Grandaddy?
On that note...
Bowling for Soup changed their name quite a bit in the early days of their playing. It was all based on a skit called Bowling for Shit. Their fans didn't care about what their name was. Neither should Vines fans.

Still, I'm happy they DO have a nice name...even if it IS of the
The...s kind
the The...it rings a bell...
Wasn't there a band called that?

Rishikesh.....The Vines it doesn't really matter what their name is. The music they play is what matters.

That's true but since Rishikesh doesn't really reflect them much i prefer The Vines. The only thing it reflects is that they like the Beatles and most people wouldn't know that. Plus if i heard Rishikesh i'd think the band was some oriental style thing and i probably wouldn't be able to pronounce it. Their songs are also really natural and have that vibe to them which totally goes with their name. Also it kinda brings in the family history coz of his father's band. So its a lot more personal and such. I don't know if they would make the same kind of music if they were called Rishikesh coz the bands songs should be influenced by their name i think.
I think Youth Group is a horrible name.
Whenever I mention them to my friends they sort of look at me strange and tentatively say "is that a band?".
I also like Rishikesh...it's unique and has a really good meaning behind it. I think the press would sort of exploit it with comparing them to The Beatles, but I don't think it would be negative.
But then again I dunno if it's really appropriate for The Vines, which seems to go along with the the trippy quality to their music. The music makes me thinking of twisting colours, but also of nature and flora.
Ehh. Sorry if this is making no sense, I'm having loads of trouble conversing today...

I don't think I'm saying it right.
"rishi" in Hinduism is an inspired poet or sage
anyway, the first "i" is pronounced as in "wish", and the other as in "reef"
(and "kesh" I guess must be pronounced as in "mesh"

)
On the whole it sounds lovely

I don't think it has anything to do with their name. They've released 3 albums in 7 years, they've hardly toured and (let's face it) they weren't the pioneers of the neo-garage rock music.
Look how well known The Strokes are, and they have that same naming scheme. I'm not saying any of the stuff above is really a bad thing but The Vines aren't just going to get famous for 2 greatly received albums in such a long period of time.

I like Rishikesh as a name...it's very interesting...I voted for it.
BUT even though I voted for it The Vines is a better sounding name for there music....so I guess I should have voted for The Vines.
Also I think that band names are Very important bands with catchy names such as The Vines, The Stokes etc get remebered (and as these bands are in themselves quite to the point these names work).
Other type of band names work well for different reasons: Band names containing references (to books or movies or whatever) i.e. My Chemical Romance.
It does matter bands should be named acording to how they sound. And for me haveing a story around the name is almost a must (well for me it is especally useful because I work in radio and stories around band names are terrific little bits of time filling trivia.)
...well that is my very extensive explanation.

But "The Vines" is already fine.
The "Vynes" was great, too.

The Vines is better than Rishikesh.
but The Spastics is better than The Vines.
i think putting thing like space in their name will be good. everytime i hear their songs, i feel like i'm having a journey in the outter limit.. well.. but it's true that spastics feels like autism..
