After reading the recent NME article, I was curious to know more about the rest of the songs on the album, as well as the release date, possible touring and their bass player situation. Here's the latest news from Vines manager, Andy Kelly:

Craig is keen to not give all the song titles away yet until they completely finish recording, so at the moment the songs Wayne mentioned are the ones they agreed to talk about. They have done 13 in all and most of the tracking is done, with guide vocals. They are taking a couple of weeks off at the moment and will resume again in a the middle of November for two weeks or so to finish off all the vocals and extra overdubs that are still to be finished. It sounds pretty excellent at the moment I must say.

Mixing will probably be done in Sydney with Wayne but we still don't have a release date set at the moment. I would imagine around the middle of the year. Given that the band probably aren't going to play live in the foreseeable future there is no plan to get another bass player at the moment.

To answer your question about "Not touring traditionally", that means not playing shows, not going on the road for 18 months at a time etc - it's just not possible. The main thing we have to do is make sure that the band can be creative and make great records and remain a band writing and recording songs. What we have been talking about is filming some studio shows at home and doing stuff with that. It's very early days, and honestly, the only focus we have is for the band to make a great album and be happy with it.

After everything they have been through I hope that people will be understanding enough to recognize that Craig just can't operate in the traditional record/press/tour cycle expected of bands now. He's an artist and the most talented one I have ever met, so the rules have to change a little to fit him, because it didn't work out in his best interests when we tried it the other way around - him fitting the rules!

I er
don't know how to respond to that
not that its not expected but I still had that little flame of hope going that they would still do an occaisional show that I could get to

ahh well, I'd rather they keep putting out albums then me being able to see them live and them falling apart
and without all the crazy promotional stuff and touring it should make for even better albums tongue.gif
Brooklyn Girl
It's still early so who knows what the future will bring with touring. I'm more concerned about Craig's peace of mind rather than a Vines tour. I'm just looking forward to hearing the new tracks.
annie
well this is shit

iv'e never even gotten to see them live

to me, that's the most important quote in there and the part i'm most concerned with - doing what is best for craig. yeah, there is that selfish part of me that wants the new album, like, yesterday and of course i'd love to see the vines live on the stage again, but it's not about me and my wishes...it's about craig. it's great that mgmt and the band respect that.

thanks so much, linda, for providing us with more info. smile.gif

My first reaction was the exact same as vinechild's huh.gif . I wonder if this is what they thought all along and we misunderstood when we thought they actually would play a few shows. I could have sworn Andy K previously said that they would probably play a few dates just not every night or to that extent. Oh well, I really think the most important thing is Craig and I have always worried that traveling at all might mean a downward spiral... even if it was not many shows. I worried about cancelled dates or bad stuff in general happening that would reflect badly on Craig and more importantly make him feel bad. sure the selfish part of me is like oh man, this is disappointing but then again i like to put other people before me, and since Craig is the one making the amazing music he definately deserves to be put first.

By the way, I completely agree with Jen. and I am so happy that Andy K has such faith them. and how he said that Craig was the most talented artist he's ever met... wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif . That's way to sweet, but I'm sure it's true anyway wink.gif . And I love how he said "Craig's an artist" because I could hear Craig saying "I'm an aritst." laugh.gif .

Andy Kelly is the best manager in the world! That last part is very true. Craig is a genuine artist and he has difficulties fitting into the typical lifestyle of a musician. It has to be catered to his needs so that he can reach his full artistic potential. And if that means no more touring, then we'll all just have to deal. Craig's wellbeing is more important.

Same here.

I don't really know what to think of this. unsure.gif Of course I think hearing their new album is way more important than seeing them live (I noticed that I don't even care about the release date anymore; as long as it will be released I'm ok with it), but it still upsets me a little. Especially 'cause it is expected from bands that they tour alot when a new album comes out. I don't know how the 'Big Public' will react to that. And that thought scares me a little.

Yesterday in Raben Footwear (crazy shoeshop in sydney), two of my friends met Ryan and he said they would be touring in January...
Not an official statement or anything, but it gives me hope biggrin.gif
manger
Well, didn't we all already know this..? lol

When he first got diagnosed, theyve been saying that.

And, as much as I would like to see them live, I also understand. If hes unhappy traveling, and performing like a puppet on stage, then I understand. I wouldn't want to, either.

As much as I would like to see them, and as much as you guys would all like to, too, we need to think about his point of veiw of it.
Lily
^guess you're right...
It'd be a dream for me to see them live, but if it involves being "no good" for Craig...i believe no one will disown the Vines because they want to keep their singer healthy...and anyway, as long as they record new songs, i'm happy tongue.gif

Huh? I wonder if there is a glimer of truth in that? I kinda doubt it though. Cause Andy Kelly did sound pretty positive about the no touring in the forseeable future thing. But who knows... IF for some reason they would play in Jan. I would be so sad cause I'm comming back I think Jan. 20 about. But of course if I knew in time I would arrange to come in time for that unsure.gif laugh.gif . But I'm definately going on Andy k's record, I mean he's the manager.

Ryan the one man band! laugh.gif I would make it back to see that as well!! Also I'm jealous of those girls who bumped into him dry.gif tongue.gif .

Now I know that Patrick is officially out of the band.
But the others need to stay together.
And I believe that last part is hinting at some kind of dvd?

I haven't seen them live, so I'm dissapointed like Annie is, but I would rather see Craig happy, and he is right now (scaring people etc.) so I'm just excited about the new cd. what does ''foreseeable future'' mean? Is there still some chance of a tour, even a more spaced out tour, like they'll still play, but not every night?

edit: In the 'post pictures of the vines' thread, it looks like they are having fun. does this mean anything?
Thomhatesmusic
It probably means they're having fun.

I mean having fun while playing live... so they like doing that... so they might still want to a little bit...
marilyn_monroe
Yeah I was just thinking about that "forseeable future" thing. Maybe that means someday? I hope maybe they will play a little live show in Sydney when I'm there *crosses fingers in vain* tongue.gif

But again, I'm relieved they are being so accomidating for Craig and not pushing him. I just really want Craig to be happy and whatever it takes to do that is good enough for me.

well, ya know they'll probably take a nice looooong break from touring, but they may do a few dates in the future you know
Craig may just as well miss it in time, not the hectic full world touring stuff
but yeah, I don't know where I'm going with this
and Hamish loves doing live shows...and who knows what Ryan thinks of it

laugh.gif laugh.gif yeah of course no one knows what Ryan thinks of playing live wink.gif

I think this is just one of life's little mysteries. But what I can see happening is them doing a show in Sydney right after I leave or something sad.gif . But that would be like... in Aug. so if they play it would probably be before that. Or well after that. Haha I'm so insane rolleyes.gif

Well, I'd better look at the bright side of things
It means no bloody groupies hanging around Craig and diverting his attention from a certain band member
