Thank you so much for posting that! Even though it's sad to think that they can't tour, it's comforting to know that they will continue to produce new music for their fans. Just knowing that new Vines music is on the way makes me really happy.
It's really impossible for people to know what it's really like to live with Aspergers if you've never known someone living with it. I know what it's like because of my daughter. Because of that, I have so much respect and admiration for Craig for continuing to make music, while at the same time learning to cope with what can be a debilitating disorder.

I think as much as management don't want to admit it, the band needs to tour to keep the members alive.
Not from a record sales out look or anything.
Craig is probably earning enough to live of royalties and so forth - but there's no way the other 2 would be. The guys who don't write all the songs rely on touring to make a living - as they only get about $2 per album sold.
I think, personally, that it's easy enough for Craig to say no more touring - but what about Hamish and Ryan?? Honestly??? How many ads will hamish have to take out in Drum media before he says you know what??? Enough is enough - I need to make a regular living. Let's tour boys!!!
They probably can't even go on the dole - because books would indicate they earn to much - even though none of it is actually making it's way back into their pockets.
So really - this could be a good thing, or a bad thing - depending on how you look at it!!!
Sorry if anyone's already brought all this up - just wanted to throw my 2 cents worth in!!

nobody's saying the band members don't want to tour. they understand better than anyone the financial risks involved by not touring, and craig has said he likes to play live. now, though, it's much more a case of looking out for craig's best interests and what he's physically/emotionally capable of doing in regards to touring behind an album.
they may very well play some shows - that's our selfish hope, anyway - but mgmt is saying they won't be doing it in any way, shape or form as they did in the past. that means, instead of going out a year or more nonstop on the road, it may just be a few shows here and there around oz and hopefully in some major cities overseas. as much as hamish and ryan may need the money, you can't force craig into another potential annandale situation just so they can make ends meet. they wouldn't want that.
none of us will probably know anything until closer to the release of the record, and that's still a ways off. but if craig feels up to doing some shows - however limited - i say more power to him and the band.

I know!!
I realise that as much as everybody.
I just don't think it's financially viable for the other two to stay in the band when they aren't making anything from it. The only way I can see things working is if Hamish and Ryan turn The Vines into a side project, and then put most of their time and energy into something that pays the rent you know???
I hope to GOD it doesn't happen like that!!! Maybe they have really fantastic parents who are happy to support them until things get better, but I don't know???
I know what everyone's saying. I really do. I'm just trying to see it from Hamish and Ryan's point of view.
But it's a personal opinion anyway - I could be totally totally wrong. They could be bazillionaires and very good at hiding the fact they have a heap of money hidden away.
I ASSUME (admittably I could be so far off the beaten track it isn't funny), that if they have to advertise themselves to find work - things are pretty dire at camp ry-mish!

Please don't get me wrong on this one. I'm not trying to be rude or obnoxious (like some posters on this board can be)!!!
I'm not saying these things to deliberately stir everyone up (God forbid doing that on my first proper day of posting!!!!! I'm not into self sacrificing!!).
Like I said - it's just a personal opionion.
I'm trying (for myself) to see everything from every side. I'll be more then happy to eat my words if and when I'm proven wrong.
I apologise if I've accidently offended anyone - as that definately was not my intention!!!

you're not being rude or obnoxious at all!

i do see your point about hamish and ryan - hamish, in particular, has taken on several side jobs (hosting that 'spin' tv show, playing with bigphallica, subbing as drummer for a few other bands) to help support himself. he and ryan are well aware they're going to take a hit financially by not touring heavily to support this new album, and it's their right to seek other work if need be.
they know this, and yet they've agreed to stay on with the vines through the recording of the album. at this point, i'd assume they're onboard for any future live shows as well. i, for one, won't begrudge them taking on other jobs or working with other bands, because i respect what they've done with the vines and for standing by craig through what's been a very difficult past couple of years.

If anything I'm thinking they may target Australia more than the states because Craig wouldn't have to fly. But I do hope they can do a couple of shows in the US.

If they do play, and it's only in Sydney you guys can stay at my place if need be to see them

...well maybe not everyone...I don't have that much room in the house...or the car
We could get a bus!!

How much do you reckon it would be to hire a bus to Sydney? I live two hours north. It'd probably be like, $800...or something?

No clue how much it would be but im down with make the trip all the way across the world

I don't know what to think of this. I think they should tour again but not for 18 months. We don't need a break down of the vines again.
