i got into the vines when my friend told me about them and then i looked them and listened to get free and then i bought there firts cd and then when the frist one came out i bought that one too and whe i first looked them up i was wow craig soo cute

Well, I wasn’t looking for music when I “found” them. I was looking for articles about Asperger (because I have Asperger) in English for once…only read Swedish articles before and then there was something about the vines and I got to their website and listened and liked it

I was watching tv and i heard this song that the channel used as like a theme or something and i thoguth i ehard it before and i asked one of my friends who it was and he said prob. the vines. So i checked em' out online and i liked their stuff and i went out to buy winning days thats pretty much it you can thank the WB for liscensing Ride

It's funny how I liked all the Vines songs I'd ever heard, even tuned in on mtv2 only because I knew they'd play Ride With Me and watch&listen for hours till they actually did, hoping they'd play Get Free too, or at least that other freakin kickin song called something weird... amm.. All that until I hear Craig suffers from Asperger's Syndrome, while obsessed with the Queens Of The Stone Age, my first thought is "What did they come up with to get him out of trouble?!?! Stupid managers.." and the second "If it's true we might be losing him!!!!" Craig that is... While going to buy their 2 albums I was thinking how easily I'd consumed the AS-trick realising I'd get the records sometime even if he wasn't sick. I keep forgetting about AS though. Ever since I've been melting the Vines records. Then I read somewhere Craig had said he used to listen to music all day long and realised I've been doing that since I finished elementary school... Many years dudes... Still melting the records I am.
PS: It turned out that that other freakin kickin song called something weird was "Outtathaway"!

I saw the music video for Ride on MTV when it first came out and hated it. I got bored surfing the web a couple months ago and came across this site. I listened to their alblum and loved it. Now I bring the CD to school so me and my friends can fight over the little booklet thingy to lick the pics of Craig Nicholls....we're such nerds...

I first unconsciously saw them at my friends house. we were watching Conan O Brien and mentioning how his jokes are funny. and the other people's aren't that funny. natural comedian you know? anyway they played get free and I thought. ok.
somehow I got hold of get free and thought it was the best track in the world. totally unlike anything popular groups were doing. even tho it wasn't totally groundbreaking stuff it was so much better than all the "oh woe is me my girlfriend left me, probably not because i'm a whinging little turd" or "i'm 30 and I blame my parents for all my problems". Instead I thought it was cool how they were just like "fuck it, rock out!" and got on with it.
of course I then got into songs like Autumn Shade, 1969 and Mary Jane and found they were way better. I still like Get Free but it pales in comparison to that stuff.

2002 was a great year for music. Ozomatli, The Vines, The White Stripes, Strokes, The Breeders, Coldplay, The Music, Beck.....truly excellent.

i don't remember where but somewhere i saw the coverart of highly evolved and i kind of like it because it fascinated me..and i wonder what kind of music the vines make and after listening to get free somewhere i bought the whole record and loved it! and i was really looking forward to winning days!!

originally when the vines came out in america was it with..."get free"...i paid them no attention and actually disliked the song, and buying the album was never a thought across my mind, they didnt stand out for me or differientiate between the bands that were already out and the bands that were coming out... to me they were just another one of the many The "bands" entering the scene (it was almost overwhelming to acknowledge or at least enjoy these The "bands" coming out at the time), but when "outta the way" dropped that was pretty much the kick in the face...realizing that they are New Grunge (which is why i think people relate vines with nirvana, because of their first album) then i heard "homesick" this song locked me into the vines, because this song was like yea we can be hard as shit but we also are talented and can produce songs like this... still having not bought the debut album i bought winning days as soon as it came out, it was definatly very mellow or like 60's rock, but still produced that "fuck you" grunge style... so it was "outta the way" that lead to my liking of The Vines (eventually buying highly evolved) ... but winning days won my respect for The Vines...

I'd heard of The Vines in 2002 and liked them, but didn't pay them much attention. Then around April last year I felt like some new music, but didn't know what to get so I walked into a record store and picked up Winning Days cause I loved the cover art. I put it into my diskman on the way out of the mall, and by the 3rd song into the album I'd turned around to go back to the cd shop to see if The Vines had released another album. I picked up Highly Evolved and loved it as well.

ive been a fan since 2002, when i heard get free. I finally got around to buying the cd about 3 months after I heard the song. Awesome album. Winning Days is better!

i like the vines since the get free video but honestly i became a fan since the winning days video.

I saw the vines and the hives and it was the battle of the bands or whatever. I was like...hmm the hives played their song so perfect...who was better...hmm...definately the vines!

Now you always hear of "battle of the bands" this or that...and it's normally some local thing or whatever.

i think i saw the get free video on tv, didnt like it at first. but the second time i watch it i fell in love with it. and after listening to highly evolved around 100 times i bought the album

well i never really could into them because they happen to be guys and im a girl...but on the other hand it is quite possible for one of them to get into me except the fact that im really shy but i shall have to get over that for things to work out.

I remember watching the music video for 'Get Free' way back in 2002, I totally loved that song but that was back when I was oh-so gawth and I couldnt admit that I liked them. A year passed and I realized I had the right to listen to what I want. I marched to the Best Buy and bought Highly Evolved and listened to it for weeks on end, I still do. And then Winning Days came out, whoa, good times.

I now own 6 of the Vines CD's(most of them are singles), I hope to get some of their early vinyls soon.

How did I get into The Vines?

It must have been when I first saw their Get Free vid...I thought I'd just explode! *explodes*

I first heird ride on muchmusic, then i saw them at the mtv music awards. They have made a huge difference in what i listen to.

My alter-ego!

It all happened one day last year. I was just getting into music... well starting I was still a video game junkie. I saw an advertisement on the music channel, it wean't. "Buy The Vines new album "Winning Days"featuring the new mega-hit Ride!" and it played the music vid in the background.

LAter I actually saw the music video I was impressed. We were learning about the history of rock and roll in music class. When talked about acid rock and it's drugs someone in my class brought up The Vines.

While on a school trip I was in a music store and saw Winning Days, I <3ed the cover so much I almost got it.

A few months later I was really into music and looking at bands on msn music. I saw the vines and watched the Get Free vid on it, mixed results.

Fast forward until the day after I joined. I had joined here after stumbling apon here again. Signed up and got the album. I made friends and listened to Winning Days (for a while). And Ever since I have been here.

All you crazy kids with you "When I heard Ride" stories... I obtained Highly Evolved when it first came out on one of my infamous "Grab and Buy" outings where I find an album that looks intriguing and I buy it. Highly Evolved was $8 beating the other album (Bleach) buy more than 5 dollars..

I bought the album.

I went to a friend's, he showed me the outtathaway video on his computer. then I liked them and bought their CD's.

A few months ago I saw the Get Free video on Kerrang!, I liked the song so I downloaded it and listened to it. Then a few weeks ago I was thinking about how much I liked the song, so I wondered what their other stuff was like, so downloaded some songs, then I decided I'd buy their albums, and the next day I did.

Saw them at the Glastonbury festival. I liked them, so bought the album (Highly Evolved) the following week and fell in love with them. Simple really.

it was during summer, right before i started high school i was in summer school and i remember one of my friends had a pin and it said "The Vines" and i checked out their video on MTV Dos, i fell in lub and it was beautiful.

when I was watching Video Hits and the Anysound video clip came on and I was like...

back in 2002, I was working on my Homework, I think I was 17....anyways....I saw the vid for Outthaway and felt still, and observed the coolness of Craig's behavior and I was in love <3
I loved the song so much the first time I heard it. They became my first fav band! Don't get me wrong, I liked other bands also, but I was like bleh......The Vines are soooo awesome, I wish I lived in Australia! lol.

i had just started going to see bands at rove when i saw the vines were gonna be on.
i went with some friends and hardly anyone had come to see them!
we almost didnt get let in coz one my friends wasnt 18 yet but thank god we did because oh. my. god it was amazing.
craig was so nice and said hi and then gave all his picks out to the crowd till he only had one left (most people were from roves actual audience coz there werent enough of us to look like a crowd)
and that is when i got into the vines.
