what do you guys reckon?

excellent band.
im really really getting into them.

for a band who is unsigned they are doing amazing!

kaleidoscope_eyes
I love the Arctic Mnokeys. I like the guy's voice especially. and the guitar riffs are great.
Feedums
They're fantastic. I love the bass in their songs. Especially in Scummy. wub.gif
comradestripe
I got one of their singles quite a while ago...I think it was called Five Minutes With... . Anyway, it was pretty bad. I listened to it about ten times in one go, and it only got a little better. I like the one line 'you're not from New York City, you're from Rotherham', but that's about it. I also think that line does well in summing up their 'fans'.

Kids! Want to be in a successful band? Slip an NME journalist a bit of cash and a wrap in the Astoria toilets and you'll have a front page for no reason!
Jammeh
It's not NME hype. I saw them at the start of the year in a tiny venue and there was 20 or 30 people there. By June their gigs were sold out everywhere and they didn't have a record deal and they hadn't been near any magazines. It's entirely word of mouth because of their demos posted on the internet.

They're absolutely amazing live, I can't stress that enough. Lyrically superb.
Thomhatesmusic
I know a few songs and I like them.

I didn't hear about them through the NME either, Vicky, don't blame the band for these idiots exagerating.

Their concert here is sold out.
comradestripe
I'm not blaming the band; why not do it if you can?

And by mentioning the NME, I meant that all the people who are suddenly buying their single are probably the ones who've done so because of their recent musoid (music + tabloid! get me!) appearances.
Thomhatesmusic
That's true.

Is it dumb that this makes the band less appealing to me?
comradestripe
It happens to us all.
Minnesoter_Matinee
Did anyone ever hear that one demo called " Dancing shoes"? I think it's brilliant.
Thomhatesmusic
I like "mardy bum", anyone else?

I love what carl barat said about them in the NME yearbook while we just saw all these pics with him and Alex.
Paul_Banks_Baby
I've only heard one song of their's...

I liked it tho, I dunno what it was called.. "danince floor' or sumpin blink.gif
Thomhatesmusic
I bet that you look good on the dance floor.
Paul_Banks_Baby
Yah, tjhat's the one! I loved that song

As PS reports, the cheeky Monkey told a Japanese magazine: “Musically, he hasn’t really achieved anything. Libertines gigs were full of private school kids, their music was pretentious, really.

The Arctic Monkeys frontman continued: “Come to our gigs and it’s normal working people having a great time. That’s what music’s about.”

Fucking hell Alex, you’re not turning into Dominic Masters are you? One’s more than enough please.

I do not read NME. NME suck!!

A friend turned me onto them. I recently saw them perform and they're really talented lads.

No, you don't. You have a CD that someone made with all of their demo songs on it (which I hope you didn't pay for).

Their album isn't due til January, and hasn't leaked at this point.
Minnesoter_Matinee
Didn't they have that one called underneath the boardwalk or something? Or was i just seeing things?

No album has been officially released except a single on vinyl.
Venereal Disease
I love them... Fee's the first one who showed me any of their music.
Tinkerbell
"Under the Boardwalk" was just demos. There is no album until January. Although they've released 2 singles.

If you go to their forum you can download all of it.
Brooklyn Girl

You know what? I bet when they're album is released I won't be able to get my hands on it. >.<
Feedums
I'm glad they're releasing 'When The Sun Goes Down' (I always thought the original title was 'Scummy' huh.gif) as their new single. It's my favorite song by them.

It'll be a proper release Carrie. So if they don't have it in stock where you buy your CDs just ask them to order it for you and they'll do that. Their record label is Domino. smile.gif

The record store I go to are lazy assholes. They never even carried any of the Strokes CDs untill I made them order one for me. I hate that record store. I wish there was a better one here. dry.gif
-talknerdytome-
I was on vacation and shopping for cds and I thought I'd buy The Arctic Monkeys after listening to 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dance Floor'. I listened to it first and I swear it didn't leave my cd player untill my vacation was over. I didn't listen to anything else, well maybe 'Vision Valley' once.

I love them all but my favorite songs are 'I Bet You Look Good On The Dance Floor', 'Mardy Bum', 'You Probly Couldn't See The Lights But You Were Staring Straight at Them' & 'From the Ritz to the Rubble'. He has a really sexy accent. wub.gif

Not To Touch The Earth
i listen to their cd once and i think i wasted my money why because i wanted to be like everyone else
-talknerdytome-
Nobody I know actually listens to the arctic monkeys.. prbly not even heard of them. My best friends and I, we all actually have different tastes in music... I listen to more rock and one listens to rap, the other listens to metal, and another goth rock or whatever, I used to annoy them trying to get them to like music like the vines and the strokes but they don't like it.. and it's not just my friends, all other people I know never heard of them, and other bands that I love...
Nirvita
artic are really good!
they know how to rock.....
but... the vines is better. tongue.gif

Young and hopeless
I can honestly say that they are one of the shittest bands I've heard in my life!!!!
But hey, that's just my opinion!!!!
Thomhatesmusic
Oh, well then I'll be sure to ignore them from nowon.
Minnesoter_Matinee
And mcr is one of the bestest bands i have ever heard in my life!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Young and hopeless
Jesus Christ! There's no need to be so fucking nasty!!!!
People on this forum are such indie kids!!!! rolleyes.gif
Minnesoter_Matinee
Eh, i didn't mean to come off nasty. I just don't understand how mcr could be better than the arctic monkeys. But i guess everyone has their own opinion, and such.
ED aka the best everrr
Beneath the Boardwalk was a compliation of their demos...never released properly.
Lunastar1979
Just saw 'em last night in San Francisco...it was really good smile.gif

*slits wrists!!*
ED aka the best everrr
I'm an indie prat and proud of it.

I refuse to see them live anymore...was the bassist alright?
Lunastar1979
Lol. No good m'dear. You should like music if it's good regardless of their popularity. Anyway...here are some great pictures my lady friend Jodi took this year tongue.gif

Yeah, i agree with tima. A bands popularity shouldn't influence your opinion too much. I do admitt it does turn me off when they get too much hype, but not to the point where i don't like 'um.

Oh, and alex is lookin' pretty sharp in those pics, if you ax me.

I believe he switches every few songs or so. At least I think I remember that when they played SF not too long ago.
teenagekicks
Steve Albini should manage the Artic monkeys next CD.
