I don't see how you can say something is your favourite if you don't at least know something about it; imagine:

You: What's her name?

Yes, of course; but if you're focusing on a specific person within that band, surely you should know their name? You wouldn't say that the author of a book was your favourite author if you didn't know their name.

I must admit I like the guy from The Shins' lyrics, but I have no idea what his name is. I also don't know what the band look like, and I'm rather proud of that.

I don't care whether you know what they look like, but it just seems like common courtesy to know a person's name if you're claiming that they're your favourite writer.

I think in this case she (kaleidoscope_eyes) meant she liked The Postal Service and Death Cab, and she didn't know the singer's name (or didn't point it). It's okay when she knows some their songs and really like their lyrics.
