when did craig start getting really violent on stage? or was he always like this? when I saw them last, he only broke hamish's drum set....nothing much else except the usual screams. please do put in your input.

I think the drum kit was what he usually always does
I've seen them 3 times and only one of the times Craig smashed his guitar (and a microphone stand too)
that was the last time I saw them...at the aussie invasion tour
wait...he might have smashed a guitar the second time I saw them...I don't remember.
according to the NME (not the best source, I know) one of the first gigs they did they got threatened to be kicked out if Craig didn't calm down...it was like...a friend of the band who said that
so i think its always been like that
I don't think hes very comfortable up there...and he reportedly throws chairs once in a while offstage when he gets nervous....so a few guitars, mic stands, and drum kits abused here and there...yeah...I lost my train of thought

There was an early gig in someone's garden in the 90s where Craig was so nervous he barely moved whilst playing. By the time they were supporting You Am I in Australia in 2001 the chaos had set in. He borrowed a guitar for one of those gigs and had to be restrained from smashing it.

^^I remember reading about a gig where the writer said he just stood there trying to muster up the strength to sing, like he was a total bag of nerves and didn't really sing at all for the first song.
I think he just dosen't really know what to do. It's pretty obvious (well to me) that he is kind of scared to sing seriously to an audience. Like he's afraid he will mess up or something so he just is like...ahh hell with it, I will just mess up the whole thing so they know that I did it on purpose. I don't know, I have heard quite a few live versions of "Autumn Shade" where he really kind of hurt my ears
He also trashes the drum kit or whatever becuase he is trying to put on a good show or whatever, I think. I don't know, I think he doesn't really know what else to do. I think he's rather uncomfortable and very stressed out...and oh yeah, how many times have I read or heard him say that "rock is on records. not on a stage." or talk about how performing is worthless or that he dosen't like it, or was nieve enough to think that they wouldn't have to tour to promote the record.

The show I went to wasn't exactly one of their wildest. He didn't smash the drum kit. He just bonked his with the microphone, rolled on the floor, did the usual yells and screamed 'TECHNICAL DIFFICULTIES!' really loudly and weirdly when the mic stand fucked up or something. He seemed fine. But that doesn't really answer your question coz it was for the Aussie Inasion tour.

Well, he's always had it. I think when he gets really stressed out, it really flares up. I don't think he ever tries to hurt anyone, but he gets so out of control, you know?

Craigs behaviour on stage is none other then entertaining. Im not a huge fan of the artists out there who stand in one spot and just sing. Wheres the fun in that? You got to have some spunk and not be so uptight in your life. Let loose and have a good time. Thats what its all about. He has got to be atleast one of the top artists who know how to please your fans while still being a complete fool. A fool in a good way of course

I agree with you there but I think what he says is true he just completely shuts down and does whatever flows with the music. I wouldn't know tho coz unfortunately i've never seen The Vines live i would very much like to because if the videos i've seen are any indication Craig is one of the most energetic, fun and out of control person i've ever seen perform on stage. ooooh i really wanna see them live. it'd be cool if they did a max sessions kind of thing where they perform and talk to ppl but i dont see them in that kind of situation.

Technical difficulties..?
I don't know.. I don't think he acts that way to put on a good show, like one some people said.. I just think, like.. He gets so into the music, he just gets overwhelmed, and doesn't know how to express himself in words, plus hes got to sing, so he just makes weird noises and expresses himself by.. throwing his body all over.. haha
Thats just what I think, though.. Because, you know how.. When you get overwhelmed, and stuff, you just act like that.. It's like.. natural.. lol
..And I'm still laughing over the technical difficulties thing..

it probably didnt. I really do think that whole diagnosis was just something to get him out of trouble. mainly because if the judge was smart, he would see that it was a bullshit charge and that anyone, while trying to play on stage, would have kicked a camera if it was flashing in his face. i know if i was trying to sing and some photographer was taking pictures of me id throw my guitar at him. its really hard to get up and perform like that, and i think he was justified in kicking the dude/girl/whatever. . . I think he would have been justified in killing the dude/girl/whatever. . . but Im crazy, so the judge might not like that. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

All concerts have photogrpahers at the begininng of a bands performance. Thay stay for a very short time, take several pics, then go. I'm sure craig knew the procedure, and it was not a bullshit charge.

Photographers are only allowed to stay for the first three songs. They are not allowed to use flash photography. I'm not sure if these photographers used their flashes but I have seen others do that and it's very distracting and annoying. Craig was extremely tired that night and was not prepared to play that show and wasn't told about until that night. They had just arrived from another country. He was already upset and just wanted to go home. It was also said the audience weren't even paying attention to them onstage. While attacking someone is no excuse, for a person with his condition, he just acts on his emotions and it was obvious he didn't want to be there. The diagnosis explained a lot throughout their career so I'm glad Craig finally got the help he needed.

not to mention, the doctor who diagnosed him and gave the court the necessary info is the preeminent doctor dealing with aspergers in australia. he would NOT jeopardize his career and medical certification just to cover for some rock star.

Everyone in my family(well on my dad's side) has emotion control problems like whoa. But enough about me, that's shitty that they had to play last minute like that, he's a trooper for actually doing it. Most people wouldn't. And I really don't blame him for kicking the photographer or whatever.
